A Toast to New Orleans and YOU. Week of September 18 -25: NOCHI's Cooking for a Cause/Fiesta Latina/ Love in the Garden and more

Good afternoon my darling family and friends. It is Monday, September 18, Saints Game Night.  After a relaxed Sunday, I am ready to face this new week. I will be attending today a funeral memorial at St Louis Cathedral to remember Dr. Alfred E. Lemmon, Director of the Williams Research Center, who died on August 26.
“Your Monday morning thoughts set the tone for your whole week. See yourself getting stronger, and living a fulfilling, happier and healthier life.” —Germany Kent. W. Have a blessed week.  Go Saints!

Darlings, this past weekend was one of the busiest I have ever been. I opted to attend the Dress Rehearsal of the LPO in the morning of September 14 because I had 3 or 4 events. . I took advantage of the Open Rehearsal of the LPO to enjoy the opening of the 2023-24 season welcoming new Music Director Matthew Kraemer with Beethoven's mighty 5th symphony. The evening performance was SOLD-OUT!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Memorial Mass and Reception celebrating the Life of beloved Dr. Alfred Emmett Lemmon, Director of the Williams Research Center, who died in August 26.was lovely.  The memorial and reception were hosted by The Historic New Orleans Collection.  The Cathedral of St Louis was well-attended and included brief remarks by Priscilla Lawrence, Answar Nasir of the LPO, Edgar "Dooky" Chase and Rosyln Lemmon. Music selections were performed throughout the memorial by the Philharmonic Orchestra String Quartet, Givonna Josephs of Opera Créole, and Dr. Michael White, as well as cathedral musicians Sarah Jane McMahon and Jesse Reeks. The reception that followed at the Williams Research Center was very memorable and delicious since it was catered by Dooky Chase's  Restaurant! May his soul RIP!

I enjoyed so much attending and covering the annual Crown Me Foundation Gala at the Ritz Carlston.   Congratulations to the honorees and the scholarship recipients. Crown Me Foundation is a service non-profit organization dedicated to the empowerment of girls and women.

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana's Excelencia Gala was the largest that I have ever seen. It was spectacular. i enjoyed so much the talented Orquesta Sinfonica Victoriona Lopez of Honduras.
At the Excelencia Gala, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana honored outstanding individuals and corporations with its Excelencia Awards in recognition of their achievements, leadership, inspiration, and active engagement with the Hispanic community. Congratulations to Ochsner Health; CRC WE CARE/WE SHARE; Fidelity Power;  Norma"s Sweet Bakery;& Chef Edgar Caro
As Hispanic integration has become essential to the economic and cultural vitality of our area, what could be more fitting to mark Hispanic Heritage Month than with this very special evening. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana (HCCL) is a non-profit organization created in 1999 committed to creating and facilitating a business climate within the Hispanic community in order to achieve economic development and progress for Louisiana. Included within its focus is a dedication to the expansion of trade relations between the State of Louisiana and Latin America.

I feel honored to have been invited to cover the annual Cancer Crusaders Celebration of Life Luncheon at the Marriot
The lovely and delicious event honored 11 Local Cancer Survivors that included my darling friend Valerie Kemper Simmons!
The Survivor Luncheon is the signature fundraising event for this organization that has been raising funds for cancer research at Tulane Cancer Center and LSU Health Sciences Center since 1976, with over $5 million raised!
Guests enjoyed a champagne reception, delicious luncheon, parade of prizes, raffles, a silent auction, presentation of survivor honorees and entertainment by The Mande Milkshakers.
The WYES Gala – Once Upon a Time in New Orleans Presented by The Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust was spectacular. The setting, the guests, the
May be an image of 8 people, balloon, office and text
May be an image of 2 people and dinner jacketentertainment, and the food by Windsor Court made it to be a very memorable fundraiser!
My social marathon evening concluded at the opening of my darling longtime friend Gennifer Flowers Kelso Club. It was a very memorable evening filled with many longtime friends. It’s at 720 St. Louis across from Antoine’s. Same place that she had before!

I loved attending the touching and memorable VCPORA Luncheon Schwartz-Gage Award Honoring Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson 2023!
Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson, former New Orleans City Council member and Louisiana state representative, was the 2023 recipient of the Schwartz-Gage Award for the preservation of the French Quarter, which is bestowed by the Vieux Carré Property Owners, Residents and Associates every two years.
Clarkson represented the French Quarter while serving as District C councilmember and continued to support the historic neighborhood in her capacity as an at-large council member and author of the City of New Orleans Master Plan. She fought to make sure the Master Plan included protections for the French Quarter. Throughout her 24 years as an elected official, Ms. Clarkson was well known for her honesty, hard work, and around-the-clock availability.
“Over the decades, many elected officials have supported the historic preservation of the French Quarter, but no one has done it quite on the level of Jackie Clarkson,” explains VCPORA President Nathan Chapman. “This is the first time VCPORA is awarding its lifetime Schwartz-Gage Award to someone who held public office.”
The award is named for the sisters Eugenie Chavanne Schwartz and Grace Chavanne Gage, who were visionary advocates of the French Quarter and its historic preservation for much of the 20th century. The VCPORA has been conferring the award since 2003.

The National Hispanic Heritage Month started on September 15 until Oct.15. Many years ago, I was honored by being invited by former President Reagan to be present at the Rose Garden of the White House to witness him proclaiming the Hispanic Week. Now it is a month!
Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanic communities. The event, which spans from September 15 to October 15, commemorates how those communities have influenced and contributed to American society at large.
The term Hispanic or Latino (or the more recent term Latinx) refers to a person’s culture or origin—regardless of race. On the 2020 Census form, people were counted as Hispanic or Latino or Spanish if they could identify as having Mexican, Mexican American, Chicano, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican or “another Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin. "The timing of Hispanic Heritage Month coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of several Latin American nations. September 15 was chosen as the kickoff because it coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of five “Central American neighbors,” as Johnson called them—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Those five nations declared their independence from Spain on September 15, 1821
This is going to be another hectic week for me. I am looking forward to attending the following events:
