A Toast to New Orleans: September 23-30

EmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmojiEmoji

Darlings,

The beautiful fall season is here and we can feel in the air, the sweet smell of victory as our beloved Saints team in its first home game scored a victory against the  Vikings. I could not wait to say these words: Geaux Saints. GO !Emoji

Last week was a very exciting, inspirational and powerful week.  Once again, there were more fabulous events than I could possible attend but I sure tried.

I started it by attending  WYES Beatles Tribute with The FAB FOUR (56 photos)

Fabulous is the only way that I could describe the performance of the Fab Four as WYES Recreates A Night New Orleanians Never Forgot - The invasion and performance of the Beatles 50 years ago My brother Lorenzo and I started our evening at the VIP reception at the WYES Studio where we enjoyed fabulous cuisine, libations and meeting the Fab 4 and the gentleman who portrayed Ed. Sullivan.

From there we were transported by bus to and from Tad Gomley Stadium. When we arrived at the Stadium it raining until the first few minutes of the performance and miraculously the rain stopped and we started grooving to the sounds of the FAB FOUR. l wasn't here in 1964 but this is one evening that I am going to remember for a long time.

Did you know that September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month? Touro and Crescent City Physicians hosted  the second annual beer tasting event to raise prostate cancer awareness on Thursday, September 18 from 5:30-8 p.m. at NOLA Brewery Company at 3000 Tchoupitoulas. I had a fun time for a great cause.

My next stop was at the Eiffel Society where the hilarious Politics with a Punch was taking place. I didn't stay long but it is always fun to see my old-time friends.

The Louisiana Women Leaders Business Conference at the New Orleans Hilton was an incredible experience, I attended the lovely luncheon that featured as Keynote Speaker CNN Headline News' Nancy Grace and Mistress of Ceremony Nancy Parker, Fox 8 TV News anchor and three-time Emmy Award Winning Journalist. Nancy Grace 's speech was moving and inspirational.

Friday was quite a very special night. Darlings, you know that I do not give up going to the opening night of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra withCarlos Miguel Prieto and Martini Madness at City Park, but there were three events that I needed to cover; The first one was the at the lovely home ofHeidy and James Dugan on Prytania Street. Reception honoring Hall of Fame Inductees for Louisiana Center (9 photos)

My next soiree was fortunately across the street and it was The Junior Committee of the Women’s Guild's largest annual fundraiser for the second year in its new form as a Masquerade with a fabulous Spanish theme. In honor of season-opening opera of “Carmen”, the Juniors’ Masquerade event consisted of a costume or cocktail attire event with Spanish-inspired entertainment, food and libations, and atmosphere.

This year’s Masquerade: Running with the Bulls, took place at the New Orleans Opera Guild Home in the Garden District.. The evening was graced with live music by The Treblemakers and an electric, Spanish inspired fashion show by NOLA Fashion week. My darling friend, talented Venezuela-born Fashion Designer, Jose Luis Rodriguez, featured his Spanish-themed, cape-inspired collection for a fabulous, private showing at the Guild Home. Jose made a fabulous red and black lace matador hat for me to wear so I needed to make an appearance.

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana's Excelencia Award Dinner Gala at the JW Marriott was outstanding. It honored Entergy, Brenda Murphy, Teresa Lawrence, Lindsey Navarro and Raul FonteJulio and Cesar and their band kept everyone dancing the night away after the delicious dinner, 2014 Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Excelencia Award (39 photos)

Before I share all the fabulous events that have been scheduled for this upcoming week I want to share this news.

Last week, we were mourning the loss of great jazz visionary, promoter, publisher, Cosimo Matassa and this week we are mourning  the death of my darling, old-time friend: talented artist Bruce Brice. http://www.wwltv.com/story/news/local/2014/09/14/first-jazz-fest-poster-artist-bruce-brice-dies/15645061/
On a happy note, Dress for Success New Orleans has added an extra weekend for their 3rd Annual Inventory Reduction Sale. The location is Esplanade Mall between Target and Dillard’s, across from the feature elevator, First Floor, in Kenner, LA to benefit Dress for Success’ mission of promoting economic independence of disadvantaged women.
