A Toast to New Orleans and YOU: Week of March 11-18 : Entrepreneur Week, New Orleans Book Festival, Art in Bloom, Dinner with Deb, Nous Foundation Gala, Dress for Success Luncheon, St. Patrick and St Joseph Parades & Casa Argentina's Asado.
Good afternoon my darling family and friends. A lovely Monday, March 11 woke us up. When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.” – Tecumseh I am looking forward to a fun-filled week that will include Entrepreneur Week, New Orleans Book Festival, Art in Bloom, Dinner with Deb, Nous Foundation Gala, Dress for Success Luncheon, St. Patrick and St Joseph Parades. Let's enjoy all! Rain did not stop fun loving guests from attending the City Park Conservancy (CPC) celebrating City Park’s spring awakening with its signature seasonal fundraiser, Lark in the Park presented by Capital One, on Friday, March 8. The annual event treated guests to a glamorous gathering featuring live music, delectable dishes from restaurants across the city, and specialty cocktails within the New Orleans Botanical Garden and the Pavilion of the Two Sisters. To my delight Mums Champagne was flowing. VIP guests started the evening in the Botanical Garden with an exclusive preview party at 7pm featuring live entertainment from Geovane Santos. The gala began at 8pm with a scintillating performance of funk and soul hits by Raw Deal, composed of world-class Grammy-nominated musicians offering a performance that ignited the night.May be an image of 2 peopleMay be an image of 4 peopleMay be an image of 3 peopleMay be an image of 4 peopleMay be an image of 6 peopleMay be an image of 2 peopleMay be an image of 4 people and flowerMay be an image of 5 people and textMay be an image of 4 people and text that says 'ል VOLUNTEER'May be an image of 2 peopleMay be an image of 4 people and textMay be an image of 5 people Before I went to the Dixie Cups concert, I attended a lovely reception honoring State Representative Aimee Adatto Freeman at the home of Anne and King Milling. May be an image of 2 people What a fun and memorable evening when New Orleans’s own The Dixie Cups celebrated the 60th Anniversary of their hit, “ Chapel of Love,” with a lovely concert at Loyola University. The Dixie Cups – sisters Barbara Ann and Rosa Lee Hawkins and their cousin, Joan Marie Johnson – began singing together in grade school while living in the Calliope Housing Project in New Orleans. The trio shot to fame in 1964 with their hit song, “Chapel of Love,” which knocked the Beatles out of the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold more than 1 million copies. The Dixie Cups had several other songs hit the Top 100, most notably the popular Mardi Gras song, Iko Iko, in 1965. The trio was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Johnson died in 2016, and Rosa Lee Hawkins died in 2022. As 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of “Chapel of Love,” the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is honoring The Dixie Cups on this year’s poster. The trio, now consisting of Barbara Ann Hawkins, Athelgra Neville and Naydja CoJoe, also will perform on the festival’s first day, April 25. Athelgra Neville is the daughter of Art Neville and niece of Arthel Neville, who is Art’s sister. Hawkins said she is thrilled Arthel conducted the Q&A session at Loyola because she considers Arthel “a niece by extended family.” May be an image of 2 peopleMay be an image of 5 peopleMay be an image of 5 peoplehttps://www.facebook.com/100048650508918/videos/pcb.927350495563292/1330629110844863 Darlings, please make your RSVP now before it is sold out. Today is my darling brother Lorenzo Bergen 's birthday and he is enjoying his birthday in Pensacola. Sorry I couldn't be there as in the past . Success is to wake up each morning and consciously decide that today will be the best day of your life. – Ken Poirot. .I hope the new week will bring you a great deal of sweetness and fun surprises .Wishing you an unforgettable 😘week of fun and love! It starts from Antoine’s Restaurant early in the morning at 9:45 am and arrives at St. Louis Cathedral at 11 am for the Mass. Fancy-dressed men and women leisurely drive across the French Quarter in old convertibles and mule-drawn carriages, handing out Easter treats to the kids. After the mass, participants go to Jackson Square, just opposite the Cathedral. In front of the crowds, they show off their Easter attire and all the finery and finally return to the starting point at Antoine's. The owners of the best Easter bonnets and baskets and overall festive attire get awards. Let us draw your attention to the start and end venue of the Historic French Quarter Easter Parade—Antoine's Restaurant. The place is known to be New Orleans' oldest restaurant, founded circa 1840 by Antoine Alciatore (hence comes its naming). A curious fact is that the restaurant is still operated by the original founder's fifth-generation grandson. The Antoine’s offers some of the finest French-Creole dining options, including oysters Rockefeller. So, we definitely recommend that you plan a meal here during your Easter getaway to the city. Chris Owens French Quarter Parade (March 31, 2024) Chris Owens is a French Quarter entertainer who has led an Easter parade through its streets for over 35 years. Crowds and costumes may remind you of Mardi Gras. Royal and Bourbon streets are filled with floats, the Krewes, and other joyful and colorful groups. The parade usually starts when The Historic French Quarter Easter Parade is over so that you can enjoy both occasions in a row. The overall celebration starts earlier, at about 11 am, with a hat contest, silent auction, and other entertainment at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel Ballroom. The parade itself steps off at 1 pm from St. Louis and Royal (in front of the hotel) and follows rightwards on Bourbon to Gov. Nicholls Street to Decatur until it finishes at its initial point. Brace yourself for vibrant floats, marching bands, Easter trinkets, beads, and happy crowds. After the parade, everyone is welcome to have more fun at Champagne Brunch and dancing with David Cook and the Yat Pack! Gay Easter Parade (March 31, 2024, TBA) In the afternoon on Easter Sunday, New Orleans witnesses another prominent street procession—the Gay Easter Parade, organized by the city’s LGBTQ+ community. Gear up for quite a relaxed walk, passing by gay bars, restaurants, and retail shops in the French Quarter. You may see horse-drawn carriages, floats, and bikers in leather and Easter bonnets. The Gay Easter Parade typically starts at 4:30 pm. Note that no (partial) nudity or explicit sexual self-expressions are allowed at the event. Still, participants are encouraged to show off their fashion and creativity with diverse Easter dresses and summer tuxes. https://www.nola.com/entertainment_life/eat-drink/chef-john-folse-holds-a-louisiana-boucherie-for-the-ages/article_9ad50264-d595-11ee-a7ae-3f775ea4956a.html https://www.nola.com/entertainment_life/eat-drink/chef-john-folse-holds-a-louisiana-boucherie-for-the-ages/article_9ad50264-d595-11ee-a7ae-3f775ea4956a.html
