Darlings, Happy Halloween!
Besides Mardi Gras, Halloween is my favorite holiday and God knows that I really get into it.
New Orleans is a happy mood since the fifth consecutive victory for our beloved Saints against the Chicago Bears. Geaux saints GO!
Another happy news item is that the LGBT newspaper, Ambush, is back in circulation under new ownership. When publisher and founder, Rip Naquin, died on August 8, many wondered whetherAmbush would survive. New co-owners, Frank Pizzolato and Tommy Acosta, have stepped in and they promise it will be better than ever. Plans are to continue publishing 26 issues a year and reestablish Ambush as a regional paper covering the entire Gulf Coast, from Texas to Florida.
On a sad note, New Orleans and the entire world is mourning  the death of the rock 'n' roll and rhythm and blues legend, Antoine "Fats" Domino, at  89. A Second-Line and Jazz Tribute has been planned for Wednesday, November 1 and it will go from Vaughan’s Lounge in the Bywater across the Industrial Canal to Fat’s longtime residence at Caffin Avenue and Marais Street. It is open for anyone who wants to join it. RIP, Fats! You were the greatest! www.bestofneworleans.com/thelatest/archives/2017/10/27/second-line-for-fats-domino-set-for-nov-1
Darlings, here is a reminder of my upcoming Round Table Luncheon at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel on Wednesday, November 15:

RESERVATIONS AND PREPAYMENT ARE REQUIRED. Walk-ins will not be accepted, as the hotel will only prepare meals for the number of guests who have made reservations. The chef needs to know how much to cook and I need to know how much champagne/wine to buy for the occasion.

A Toast to New Orleans: October 24-31 : - New Perspective Artist Reception/ Escape to Margaritaville/ Louisiana Seafood Festival/ Shangri-la Reunion luncheon - Boo & Bling- Halloween Celebrations and More.....

Darlings,

Beautiful autumn weather is finally here and the New Orleans is proudly celebrating the four consecutive wins for our beloved Saints. Geaux Saints go!

This past weekend was full of exciting cultural soirees.

I started my week by attending “An Evening with Enrique Alferez” at the New Orleans Botanical Garden. The weather was glorious as we listened to the beautiful sounds of  harpist Patrice Fisher and talented guitarist Javier Olondo and their band. If you have never been to this exquisite sculpture garden, you should! The next free concert will be this upcoming Wednesday, October 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154733206300870.1073742963.581200869&type=1&l=ddc670580f

On Thursday, I attended the HI New Orleans Ground Breaking Ceremony. HI USA will be opening a brand new hostel in the heart of New Orleans in 2018! The four-story building, which was formerly the Pickwick Social Club, is located at 1028 Canal Street. The hostel will feature 126+ dorm beds, 25 private en-suite rooms, and an onsite cafĂ©. As part of their commitment to sustainable tourism, they will be repurposing two historic buildings from the 1890s. HI New Orleans will also have a community space open to local residents, which will be used to host educational programming and engagement space for nonprofits. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154734871480870.1073742964.581200869&type=1&l=ece0b54942

Darlings, since I knew I was not going to be able to attend the fabulous Ogden Museum of Southern Art's “O What a Night” on Saturday night, I opted to attend the awesome Patron Party at the lovely mansion of Allison Kendrick, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The fundraiser on Saturday honored Pamela J Joyner and Alfred J. Giuffrida. The chairpersons of the Gala were my darling friends Alexa Georges and her husband Jerry Armanishttps://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154736864565870.1073742965.581200869&type=1&l=95840a3a65

That evening, I was also invited to attend Friends of Jefferson’s beautiful Autumn Affair which was awesome. The exquisite mansion of Jackie and M.J. Wolfe in Old Metairie was the setting for the lovely fundraiser which was enjoyed by the guests. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154736911295870.1073742966.581200869&type=1&l=1663f03aaf

On Friday, it was time to attend the black tie Jefferson Performing Arts Society's 22nd Annual Pasta & Puccini. Ooo la la la! The Moulin Rouge-themed Jefferson Performing Arts Society's 22nd Annual Pasta & Puccini Fundraising Gala presented by the Wendell and Anne Gauthier Family Foundation at the Sheraton Hotel, was spectacular. The elegant black tie fundraiser celebrated the 40th Anniversary Season of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society to benefit JPAS youth programs and cultural endeavors. The evening featured a Gala performance by the JPAS Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Dennis Assaf with vocals and music from JPAS’ fall productions. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154739029555870.1073742967.581200869&type=1&l=cf2c5d19f6

Saturday was a hectic night for me that compounded by terrible traffic problems since the Krewe of Boo was going on the French Quarter. My first stop that night was the  lovely  Patron Party for The Women's Guild of the New Orleans Opera Association's "Revelry on The River - Opera Gala- "The Roaring Twenties at The Westin Canal PlaceRevelry on the River -Opera Gala,  the Patron Party for The Women's Guild of the New Orleans Opera 's "Revelry on The River - Opera Gala- "The Roaring Twenties @ The Westin Canal Place. As you will see in the photos guests carried the theme and it was awesome. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154740518685870.1073742968.581200869&type=1&l=2d694c5985

The New Orleans Ballet Association's presentation of Ballet Hispanico was electrifying. At the beginning of the program my darling friend, Executive Director Jenny Hamilton, introduced Artistic Director & CEO Eduardo Vilaro , who I remember meeting when he was dancer under founder Tina Ramirez. Jenny also introduced a representative from Pan American Association, the sponsor of the Ballet Hispanico. I was invited to attend a lovely reception at the first intermission.

Casillero del Diablo's Devil's Society Ball

I concluded my social week on Sunday. I had such a fun time. I usually don't go out on Sunday night but the invitation was so seductive that I knew that I had to get in costume to attend the Devil Society Ball which was sponsored by Casilllero del Diablo Wines. I actually did not leave Santiago de Chile without visiting the Casillero Del Diablo Vineyards. I loved it, just like I loved the Ball and the decadent libations created by Laura and  Chris Mcmillian and the food by talented Chef Adolfo Garcia! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154743923145870.1073742970.581200869&type=1&l=e9f7149c29.

Great history, great stories and wonderful tunes — everything from Good Rockin’ Tonight by Roy Brown in 1947, to Tutti Frutti by Little Richard in 1955, to Tell It Like It Is by Aaron Neville in 1966, and, of course, lots of Fats Domino and Allen Toussaint.
