Darlings, there is nothing better to start a week than a victory from our beloved Saints: their first without Drew Brees. Geaux Saints!

Last week was another social whirl for me, to the point that I had to skip going to fun events on Saturday during the day so I could save my energy for the evening.

I started my Friday by stopping briefly to

Storming the Sazerac at the Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel

The event celebrated the always-bold and barrier-breaking women of New Orleans, who stormed the famous Sazerac Bar decades ago, during an annual luncheon and recreation of the “Stormin’ of the Sazerac.” It was so much fun seeing my darling friends recreating the event.

Among the fabulous parties that I attended Friday Night were the spectacular

VCPORA’s River Vieux Soirée at the Riverview Room

The lovely Riverview Room, with its stunning, 360-degree views of the Mississippi River at the Jax Brewery, was the setting for the VCPORA’s River Vieux Soirée.

This year the VCPORA’s Gala focused on our city’s founding inspiration, the mighty Mississippi River. The VCPORA Gala is the organization’s most important annual event, and one that offers our community the chance to support and celebrate the Vieux Carré and its oldest guardian, the Vieux Carre Property Owners and Residents Association.

This amazing venue set the stage for an evening of culinary traditions, including live-action cooking stations courtesy of the New Orleans School of Cooking. Guests danced to the lively tunes of Bon Bon Vivant and The Rainy Day Band, and they enjoyed as well the fabulous silent and live auctions while sipping on specialty cocktails from Old New Orleans Rum, SoBou, and others.

That evening was also the much-anticipated, sold-out Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Excelencia Gala at the Intercontinental Hotel

On September 20, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana honored outstanding individuals and corporations with its Excelencia Awards in recognition of their achievements, leadership, inspiration and active engagement with the Hispanic community. As Hispanic integration has become essential to the economic and cultural vitality of our area, what could be more fitting to mark Hispanic Heritage Month than with this very special evening!

The other lovely soiree that I love attending was the Grand Opening of the Louisiana Children's Museum at City Park.

Louisiana Children’s Museum's “CHAIRish the Children – Grand Opening Gala”

My darling friend, Sammy Steele, and I celebrated the new Louisiana Children’s Museum in City Park (15 Henry Thomas Drive) and explored its 6.8 acre indoor/outdoor campus. The evening began when we entered the VestiBlue: a nod to the iconic big blue doors on Julia Street. We enjoyed specialty cocktails, lively entertainment with the Bucktown All-Stars, fine dining provided by Dickie Brennan & Co. (operators of LCM’s new Acorn Café), and an exciting auction featuring LCM’s signature chairs created by local artists and much more.
Love it

I concluded my week last night by attending a presentation of “Grand Slam,” the Louisiana State Museum and New Orleans Fashion Week 2019 celebration of the Artistry at the Presbytere. It was an evening of Carnival-inspired fashion and festivities! Hosted within the Presbytere’s Mardi Gras exhibition, the runway show presented works inspired by the lavish costumes and gowns on display, worn by local performers and models. Attendees also got an after-hours view of Grand Illusions: The History and Artistry of Gay Carnival in New Orleans, which highlights the groundbreaking work of local costumers and krewes and provides further inspiration for how Carnival attire can influence year-round fashion. I loved it!
