A Toast to New Orleans and YOU- Week of January 22-29: 14th Annual Horses, Hops & Cops/Krewe de Vieux/ and on January 29- CRAWL INTO CARNIVAL ROUND TABLE LUNCHEON

: A Toast to New Orleans and YOU- Week of January 22-29: 14th Annual Horses, Hops & Cops/Krewe de Vieux/ and on January 29- CRAWL INTO CARNIVAL ROUND TABLE LUNCHEON IT'S CARNIVAL TIME! Good mor😘ning my darling family and friends. A warmer Tuesday, January 23 is waking us up. “When you arise in the morning, think of what a privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.”– Marcus Aurelius. I am grateful to be alive and healthy. “What seems to us as bitter trials are often blessings in disguise.” – Oscar Wilde, Wishing you a blessed Tuesday. I am grateful to see another day and week with warmer temperature.. After a fun-filled week I am looking forward to this week & Monday January 29 when Rick Tringali & I will co-host "Crawl Into Carnival" Round Table Luncheon at the Jazz Museum. I hope you start your Monday by loving yourself. Self-love is what keeps us going in life. Never forget that! Choose to see the good in every moment, Have a blessed week.😘 The highlight of my week was the festivities associated with the visit of Spain's Compania Nacional de Danza presented by the New Orleans Ballet Association: The historic Cabildo was the setting for the exclusive Fiesta honoring the artists from Spain's Compania Nacional de Danza. Julio and Cesar kept everyone dancing to the Spanish music at the spectacular reception. Before I went to see the performance of Spain’s National Dance Company, I stopped by Gennifer Flowers Club to a surprise birthday party for Kitsy Adams at the Gennifer Flowers Club Unfortunately, i had to leave before Kitsy arrived. The performance Spain’s Compania Nacional de Danza presented by the New Orléans Ballet Association at the Mahalia Jackson Theater was superb. Spain’s premier, national dance company, returned after 22 years for a rare New Orleans engagement. Led by Artistic Director Joaquín De Luz, a world-renowned past principal dancer with New York City Ballet, CNdD wows the Crescent City with a North American premiere of mixed repertoire: White Darkness by CNdD’s former artistic director and choreographer Nacho Duato, a lush and virtuosic one-act ballet created as a requiem; the vivacious and satirical Sad Case by Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, which embodies the fiery, syncopated rhythms of Mexican mambo; and Passengers Within, the latest creation by De Luz, set to music by Philip Glass. The company’s repertoire embraces classical to avant-garde and reflects its own identity and history of excellence. A Toast to New Orleans and YOU: Week of January 8-15 : Galatoire's Friday Before Mardi Gras Auction/ Opera Creole Masquerade Ball/LPO's RHAPSODY IN BLUE and more..../ Good afternoon my darling family and friends. It is Monday, January 8 and the memories of being at the last Saints Game of the season at the Superdome are still perduring in mind. We won 48 to 17! "Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. “Don’t worry about yesterday or last month. Today is a new day, so renew your mind this morning. Be positive and start fresh. "On this wonderful Monday don’t forget to be thankful for the little things in life. Have a blessed new week. OMG! What a fabulous way to start 2024 with a victory of our beloved Saints Against the Atlanta Falcon 48B vs 17. I am so grateful to my longtime friend Gayle Benson for proving my roommate Rick Tringali and I, the memorable experience of attending the mass, passes to the field and 50-yard tickets to the game. I love seeing beloved Steve Gleason and many longtime friends. I also loved meeting Coach Dennis Allen, Taylor Hill, Alontae Taylor, A.T. Perry among others. The New Orleans Saints missed out on the NFC playoffs for the third consecutive season Sunday following a 48-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Our hostess Gayle Benson could not attend the game because she was attending the festivities associated with new Governor of Louisiana Jeff Landry in Baton Rouge, I was invited by my longtime friend LT. Governor Billy Nungesser to his inauguration as well. The Saints (9-8) fell short of the NFC South title after the Buccaneers (9-8) clinched the division with a 9-0 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Dennis Allen's squad remained eligible for a wildcard bid, but the Saints needed both the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks to lose games on Sunday. Remembering Maestro Robert Lyall Image The New Orleans Opera board of directors and staff are saddened to share the passing of General and Artistic Director Emeritus Robert Lyall, on January 5, 2024. With courage, grace and a sense of humor, Maestro Lyall had bravely battled cancer since April 2023, as well as resulting complications in recent weeks. Robert was a true maestro, whose keen intellect and love for opera and symphonic works shaped a long and distinguished career. His life in music began with a resounding triumph – winning the American Symphony Orchestra League’s National Conducting Competition. He continued to refine his craft, soaking up wisdom from Dr. Richard Lert at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, and studying with the acclaimed conductor Kyril Kondrashin in Amsterdam. With support from the Fulbright and Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Foundations, Robert pursued a Ph.D, and always remained ardent about both learning and teaching. Robert brought his artistic vision and leadership to six institutions: the Victoria Symphony; the Oak Ridge Symphony; the Knoxville Opera; Mississippi Opera; Opera Grand Rapids; and finally, the New Orleans Opera, completing an astounding 23 seasons from 1998 to 2021. And he wasn’t confined by borders. Robert’s music-making echoed across the globe, from Carnegie Hall to the grand stages of Russia, Italy, Spain, Mexico, the Netherlands and Turkey. As Principal Guest Conductor for the Istanbul State Opera, he built bridges through music. Robert was extremely active with New Orleans’ own French Consulate, and in 2017 was knighted by the French government for his immense impact, receiving the prestigious “Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters.” Maestro Robert Lyall will live on in our hearts as we remember his infectious passion for opera, his dedication to creating beautiful productions, his amazing mind and musical talent, his sense of humor, his generosity of spirit, his collegiality and true friendship, and his deep commitment to our company and community. We will miss him dearly, and our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends and everyone whose lives were touched by this extraordinary man. I am also mourning the death of my longtime friend Lisa Slaten who died before the end of 2024 on the Highland of North Carolina. May her soul RIP https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Monday-January-8---2024.html?soid=1102589984427&aid=yFVhNxX8zcs Monday January 8, 2024 You don't want to miss this. The Jan. 6 procession is a cultural twofer, celebrating both the start of traditional Carnival season and the birth of our favorite medieval teenage warrior woman. If you’ve never seen it, the Joan of Arc parade is like a roving Renaissance festival, with lots of kings, queens, knights, shepherds, monks, saints, maidens, and such. The procession first took to the streets in 2008. DJ Liz will be onstage playing Carnival and New Orleans music to help get us all in the mood for that first slice of king cake and all the fun that is Carnival! The King Cake Monarch will also be invited back to celebrate the opening of the King Cake Hub at 1464 S. Broad. The doors open and the party starts again welcome customers for the first day of the King Cake Hub, Josh Paxton will be playing Carnival favorites in the beer garden as well as HEY Coffee Co selling coffee and Paw Paws Donuts serving their amazing cream filled donuts. This will be King Cake Hub’s sixth year selling a wide assortment of the best king cakes you have ever and never tasted and will include a variety of more than 70 cakes from Bittersweet, Breads on Oak, Brennan’s, Bywater Bakery, Caluda’s, Cannata’s, Caywood and Randazzo Bakery, District, Hi Do Bakery, Gracious, Joe Gambino’s Bakery, NOCCA, Sugar Love, Nolita, Mad Matter Bakery, Marguerite’s King Cakes and more as well as a number of king cake related sweets and other merchandise. Many purists blame people eating king cake out of season for all kinds of calamities from hurricanes to dreary Saints seasons. While our extensive research can’t substantiate those claims we can conclusively say that king cake causes maximum joy when shared during the festivities of the Carnival season.
