The very moving memorial services for beloved former Governor Kathleen Blanco and Nancy Parker saddened us and both of these formidable women will be remembered by all who knew them. May their souls R.I.P.
On a happy note, congratulations to The Eastbank All Stars who rolled to a dominating 8-0 victory Sunday over Curacao to become the 2019 Little League World Champions. This was the first-ever such honor for any New Orleans area Little League team!
After we bid farewell to Kathleen and Nancy, life went on and last week there was a swirl of fun activities that included:
The Whimsy White Friday Lunch at Antoine's was sold-out before I could register but that did not stop me and about 12 fun-loving friends to don our whites to celebrate and take advantage of the delicious Coolinary menu. We ended up at the Escargot Room but, believe me, besides my monthly Round Table Luncheons, we had one of the best luncheons ever. True to my word, I brought a bottle of Bellini and toasted to our beloved Nancy Parker (R.I.P.) and the fun started and kept going.......
On Wednesday, August 21, Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse once again transformed itself into a delicious indoor picnic, featuring Louisiana grass-fed beef from Gonsoulin Cattle Ranch, and Louisiana Wagyu from Raines Farm.
It was such a delicious Louisiana Beef Picnic that I had to escape early because I am carnivorous and the myriad of beef dishes served were cooked to perfection. The red wine went so well with the beef dishes and, my God, the desserts were so decadent that I could have devoured everything in sight!.
OMG, what a fun Friday Night!
Donning a large magnolia flower in my hair, my darling friend Michael Langford and I enjoyed joining the guests in the celebration of the Jefferson Council on Aging's Eighth Annual Senior Moments Gala. This year was celebrated on Saturday, August 24, at the Metairie Country Club.
The evening featured savory cuisine by my darling longtime friend, Executive Chef Mark Quitney, formerly of the New Orleans Sheraton, with libations and fabulous entertainment by a trio from the LPO. My darling friends, talented Guatemala-born guitarists Julio and Cesar, also performed and their band had everyone dancing.
The fundraiser helped support the mission of the Jefferson Council on Aging of assisting the senior citizens of Jefferson Parish to age with dignity and independence in the place and manner of their choice.
The lovely Magnolia Mansion was the setting for my longtime friend Jeffrey Crouere's 40th birthday party. Proprietor Fouad Zeton and Jeff's talented wife, Simone Bruni Crouere, proprietor of Demo Diva, served as the hosts. It was a fun evening filled with a lot of mutual friends.

11th Annual Preview of the Cultural Season
Now in its 11th year, Culture Collision (culturenola.com) will kick off the 2019-2020 cultural season on Wednesday, August 28 from 5:30-8 pm.
Presented by WWNO and hosted by the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, 925 Camp Street (across from the Cultural Arts Center and the WW II Museum), this one-of-a-kind cultural celebration brings together patrons and artists for a self-guided tour of New Orleans’ arts, culture and humanities nonprofit organizations.

Festival Schedule, Details and Tickets:
James Booker (December 17, 1939 – November 8, 1983), who was
born in New Orleans and raised by his aunt in Bay Saint Louis. Booker
played with the St. Rose de Lima Gospel Choir and on the historic
stage at the 100 Men Hall. The festival will include a gospel tribute by
the St. Rose de Lima choir and a piano tribute by New Orleans musicians,
Tom McDermott and Josh Paxton, plus a screening of Lily Keber’s
documentary on Booker, Bayou Maharajah, as well as readings & talks
by Ellis Anderson of the Shoofly and locals who knew Booker. The event
will close with a DJ dance party. Join us for a rollicking good-time !!
