A Toast to New Orleans August 6-12: Coolinary NO/Museum Month/ Red Dress Run/Dirty Linen Night and more

Darlings,

By the time you receive this blog, I will be in my way to the National Convention of the Red Hat Society that will be held in Nashville, Tennessee from August 8 to 11. I am one of the Queens and cannot wait to participate and be part of the fun convention. I will be attending with darling friends Sula Tedesco and the creator of the Mardi Gras Mischief Doll, talented Connie Born.

There are going to be a lot of fun parties that I am going to miss but unfortunately there is just one me and I am looking forward to attending the Red Hat Society Convention.

These are some of the fabulous parties that I attended last week

.

I joined briefly the special reception honoring the legacy of gallery owner Arthur Roger and the support of art collector and actress, CCH Pounder who, unfortunately, could not make it.

As in the past the opening night kickoff party and the presentation of the Satchmo awards at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel was an over the top entertaining and delicious jazzy soiree.

Ellis Marsalis, one of the world’s most decorated jazz musicians, headlined the kickoff party and fundraiser, where he was joined by special guest Ashlin Parker. The fundraiser took place at the Omni Royal Orleans (612 St. Louis St.), with Marsalis performing during the opening dinner and cocktail reception from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Also happening during the kickoff party was the awards ceremony, where three individuals received a “Spirit of Satchmo Award” for their “commitment to preserving and honoring Armstrong’s legacy.” This year, those three individuals were Jackie Harris (absent), Corey Henry and Ricky Riccardi.

O What a Night! Indeed it was a beautiful, artful White Linen Night! I started my lovely evening at the VIP party for Hancock Whitney Party at The Advocate and then rushed through some of my favorite galleries since I needed to attend Casa Argentina's Tango Show/dinner at the Hyatt.

Casa Argentina celebrated the 203rd Anniversary of the independence of Argentina with “An Evening of Tango Celebration” at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The dinner, show and dance event featured some of the world's best dancers as well as local musicians.

Proceeds from this year's event will benefit several programs for the undeserved youth. Casa Argentina is a non-profit organization founded in 1982 with the mission of preserving the Argentinian culture, as well as sponsoring educational and philanthropic activities.
