A Toast to New Orleans September 25-October 1: Aladdin / St. Elizabeth’s Guild Activists Awards Luncheon/Love in the Garden/ Turandot/ Belles and Beaus and more.........

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn 2018 !

Darlings, my beloved New Orleans and the Saints fans are once again celebrating victory. Our beloved Saints beat our archrivals The Atlanta Falcon 43-37 in overtime. Geaux Saints! And congratulations to our beloved Drew Brees: New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is now the all-time leader in pass completions in NFL history!

This past week was a very hectic one, reflecting the beginning of our cultural season.

The New Orleans Ballet Association opened its 2018-19 season with its presentation of DIAVOLO.
The New Orleans Ballet Association presented, once again, the breathtaking acrobatic performance of Diavolo. Architecture in Motion is a Los Angeles based professional dance company founded in 1992 by Artistic Director Jacques Heim. It uses dance to explore the relationship between the human body and its architectural environment. I think this is the fourth time that I have seen them perform but I never get tired of seeing them perform. BRAVO! I got the opportunity to say hello to Jacques at his pre-performance talk and then I was invited to the wine reception during intermission. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155513480585870&type=1&l=02308e6522

Boys Scouts of America Diversity in Scouting Gala
The Southeast Louisiana Council Boys Scouts of America presented last night its Diversity in Scouting Gala at the Hyatt. The honorees were Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson, Demetric Maria Mercandel of Entergy, Honorable Councilwoman Cyndi Nguyen and Ileana Suquet, President of New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155510131025870&type=1&l=cc3e3bc521

Le Petit Theatre Curtain Call Ball 2018

Le Petit Theatre Curtain Call Ball was awesome! Co-chaired by Janet Daley Duval and Julie Livaudais George, the Gala was a Celebration of the American Musical. Broadway performer, comedian, and cabaret star, Christine Pedi, hosted an evening of musical performances in celebration of New Orleans' premiere theatre. Guests enjoyed delicious Creole cuisine from the Tableau restaurant along with specialty cocktails as we raised the curtain on a celebration of the American musical.
All proceeds from the Curtain Call Ball go to support Le Petit Theatre's mission of presenting the highest quality theatrical performances while nurturing the next generation of up-and-coming talent.

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 2018 Excelencia Awards Gala

The Annual Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Excelencia Awards Gala at the InterContinental Hotel was fabuloso. Que Rico! As part of the Hispanic Heritage Month, the elegant, delicious and entertaining Gala honored outstanding individuals and corporations with its Excelencia Awards in recognition of their achievements, leadership, inspiration, and active engagement with the Hispanic community.

Talented guitarists Julio and Cesar and their band provided the rhythmic Latin sound to the delight of the crowd. Another talented classical guitarist, Javier Olondo, was the Master of Ceremonies. As Hispanic integration has become essential to the economic and cultural vitality of our area, what could be more fitting to mark Hispanic Heritage Month than with this very special evening?https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155512192450870&type=1&l=e309cbdcb3

Turandot:
This majestic lyric drama is set in ancient China during the age of fables. A royal decree is read stating that Princess Turandot will marry any royal suitor who can answer her three riddles. To take the test and fail means death, and the recent loss of the head of the Prince of Persia marks the thirteenth such failure. Calaf, the unknown prince, succumbs to Turandot’s great beauty and accepts her daunting challenge. Calaf successfully answers Turandot’s riddles, but rather than forcing her to marry, he counters with a riddle of his own. If by dawn she can discover his name she is released from her pledge. To illustrate the depth of his love, at dawn he reveals his own secret, placing his destiny in her hands.
With its large cast of exotic characters and grand choruses, this fairy tale fantasy bursts with color and excitement as the lush romanticism of Puccini’s glorious music carries us to the magical ending in which love triumphs over all!

Singing the title role is soprano Alexandra Loutsion and opposite her, as Calaf, is tenor David Pomeroy. The role of Liu, a slave girl, is sung by Raquel Gonzalez and Paul Whelan is King Timur. Local favorites in the production include Tony Bentley as Emperor Altoum; Ivan Griffin as a Mandarin; and the roles of palace officials, Ping, Pang and Pong are sung by Dennis Jesse, Casey Candebat and Chauncey Packer.

They will be joined by the New Orleans Opera Chorus under the direction of Carol RauschMaestro Robert Lyall conducts the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
