A Toast to New Orleans and You- Week of June 26-July 3: Essence Festival/4th of July Weekend

A Toast to New Orleans and You- Week of June 26-July 3: Essence Festival/4th of July Weekend

Good afternoon my darling family and friends. It is Monday, June 26 and a reminder that you can handle whatever this week throws at you. “Mondays are tough only for those people, who don’t know how to spend them cheerfully. Get up and have fun today!” –Success is to wake up each morning and consciously decide that today will be the best day of your life. – Ken Poirot.  Stay cool and hydrated. Go Tigers!
After a hectic week, Iam ready for a holiday and I could not pick up better cities than beautiful, historic Charleston and Savannah.
I will be joined by my darling roommate Rick Tringali who will be returning from Paris, France  and Ascona, Switzeland  and his beloved mother Libby.
I was fortunate enough to have participated decades ago, in Jazz Ascona when I had Bergen gallery. Since 1985, JazzAscona is one of the world's leading events dedicated to New Orleans Beat, attracting and thrilling a large audience every year, with the diversity of its rich programme, but also the festival's holiday ambience, and the spectacular scenery of Ascona. JazzAscona is the only big European festival, offering a full immersion  into New Orleans’ music, culture and cuisine.
Being from the beautiful island of The Hispaniola in the Caribbean,   I am so looking forward to Carifest  and as Loran Shelton Beck, the festival’s Carifest president said.  “Carifest is a celebration of the Caribbean.”  “In 2006, President[George W.] Bush signed a proclamation making June National Caribbean American Heritage Month, so our goal is to educate people, bring awareness and showcase the contributions of Caribbean Americans to the United States — to our adopted home.”
After the Parade on Saturday, we will leave on Sunday for Savannah, Georgia, a historic city that i have been waiting to discover since I read the fabulous book Midnight in the Garden Of Good and Evill by my darling friend, talented author John Berendt.
I will be returning on July 4th. I am sorry that i am going to miss the Essence Festival and the always fun :Mayor's Essence Welcome Reception 2023
Wishing all of you a safe, cool and blessed 4th of July Weekend!

What a fun night of June 23 that started at the International Hotel and ended at the the Inside New Orleans magazineat the Fire House  Loft.
Dressed in white I joined the hotel to observe   Saint John’s Eve before John the Baptist’s birthday (June 24). For the 24th year, Priestess Sallie-Ann Glassman led this ritual and as always in New Orleans, a cocktail is created to whet the experience. i always enjoyed seeing my longtime friend Sean Cummings and his exquisite hotel. He just told me that he has rescued another original art of graffiti artist May be an image of 5 peopleBanksy and I cannot wait to see it.

WOW! The Lobster Fest at Briquette's was DELICIOUS.  I ended up
having the steak and lobster in a doggie bag because the 5-course meal was very satisfying! I am going to enjoy it for lunch.
Congratulations
to Anna and AJ. Tusa and the chefs for a sensational Lobster Fest!

Wearing my purple and gold outfit in support of LSU, I attended the Patron party for the fun-loving Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans's "Petite Sweet: A Ball for All. It celebrated Summer, Creativity, Art, Fashion, and the Experimental Spirit in the spirit of the Fauves, with a French Riviera vibe! The lovely evening featured Hendrick's Gin Libations, amazing food and fabulous entertainment by my fellow Dominican, talented guitarist, composer, Fermin Ceballos, and his Merengue 4.

4th of July Weekend Events & Fireworks 2023

The Big Easy City is great at celebrating! Summers here are hot, and so are the festivities

New Orleans is famed as a party destination, and the city shows its best during the 4th of July celebration. You can enjoy the festive atmosphere in the French Quarter or enjoy a ride along the river and visit the French Market, Flea Market, and Riverwalk Marketplace. Most of the museums remain open, so you can explore numerous exhibits or even learn something about the role of New Orleans in world wars.

Go 4th on the River (July 4, 2023)

The biggest event—Go 4th on the River—takes place on the banks of the Mississippi. Its major highlight is the Dueling Barges show, a stunning fireworks display to the sounds of patriotic music; this show is definitely worth seeing! There are a lot of locations to catch the spectacle along the river: the Moon Walk, Woldenberg Park, or on the other side of the river in Algiers. Many people ride on steamboats or take fireworks cruises during the evening to get the best possible views.

Essence Festival of Culture (June 29–July 3, 2023)

Essence Festival is an annual festival held in the Caesars Superdome from late June to early July. Past performers included such stars as Beyonce, Kanye West, Prince, Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, and others. Tens of thousands of fans also attended the daytime seminars and other events around town. Live concerts gather tens of thousands of fans. Essence Festival also features daytime seminars and various events around town.

The 5th Annual P.O.W.E.R. Plates is this July!

Launched in 2019, P.O.W.E.R. Plates is a month-long celebration of women in hospitality produced by Fidelity Bank's P.OW.E.R. Program. P.O.W.E.R. Plates' goal is to raise awareness of, and drive business to, women-led restaurants in the New Orleans & Baton Rouge region. Women-led restaurants, bars, hotels and Fidelity Bank P.O.W.E.R. members from across the region can participate to benefit the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation (LHF) which supports Louisiana's hospitality industry workers in crisis through emergency relief funding. That means your participation is helping someone pay keep the lights on and a roof over their heads.
