What a lovely & delicious celebration of the 70th anniversary of Carousel Bar at the Monteleone Hotel

I was elated to be invited to the private reception to celebrate the 70th Birthday of the legendary Carousel Bar at the family -owned Hotel Monteleone.
On September 3, 1949,The Carousel Bar opens inside the historic Hotel Monteleone, becoming New Orleans’ first and only rotating bar.
Its carousel theme and unique design is a treat for the young-at-heart, offering guests a pleasant, subtle rotation around a world-class cocktail bar every 15 minutes.
In the early days, the Carousel Bar operated alongside the Swan Room, a nightclub known for its famous entertainment.
The stage played host to legendary acts like Liberace and the jazz pioneer Louis Prima.
Some of the greatest literary minds have found their creative spark at the Carousel Bar. Authors like Ernest Hemingway, Eudora Welty, and William Faulkner wove the Carousel into their stories.
The playwright Tennessee Williams and author Richard Ford were regular guests, as was Truman Capote, who lovingly claimed he was born in Hotel Monteleone.

70th Celebration of the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone
The Carousel Bar inside the Hotel Monteleone is an iconic New Orleans destination. It has seen seven decades, countless cocktails, and an endless cast of characters. And the Carousel Bar is still spinning after all these years.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of their beloved hotel bar, the Hotel Monteleone is honoring the Carousel Bar with a look back at its incredible, colorful history. And nothing tells its story better than the world-class cocktails it has served through the years.

I was so honored to be invited to the unveiling of the beautiful sculpture of Anne Frank at the National WWII Museum.
Ever since I was a teenager and read “The Diary of Anne Frank, I’ve loved her and I have the greatest admiration for her short life. When I was in Amsterdam the first time, her hiding place was one of the places that I needed to visit so I was delighted to see her statue right here at National WWII Museum.
The unveiling took place outdoors in the museum’s Founders Plaza on Thursday, September 12, and was preceded by a reception and ceremony in BB’s Stage Door Canteen.

OMG, I feel so blessed to be the recipient of the prestigious award for Noche Cubana at the Jefferson Orleans North on Saturday, September 14. I loved being surrounded by so many friends, although unfortunately some of them - such as my brother Lorenzo Bergen and others - could not attend because it started at 9 p.m.
For those who attended, we had a great evening of fabulous entertainment by Julio and Cesar and their band, fabulous dancers and great Latin food.
Unfortunately, it was farewell for Noche Cubana after six years but I am determined to continue it; not so late but on a Sunday afternoon like I used to host many years ago at Tommy's.
My darling friend Mayra Pineda

Storming the Sazerac at the Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
The event celebrates the always bold and barrier-breaking women of New Orleans, who stormed the famous Sazerac Bar decades ago, during an annual luncheon and recreation of the “Stormin’ of the Sazerac.”
In celebration of the monumental anniversary, the hotel is raising a glass to the courageous group of ladies who first stormed the hotel’s Sazerac Bar in 1949 demanding equality, and a stiff drink, at a time when women were only allowed to be served at the bar on Mardi Gras day. The hotel invites all women to join in the one-of-a-kind celebration encompassing libations, cuisine and entertainment in the lap of Roosevelt luxury. Festivities will take place in the famous Blue Room, the elegant Fountain Lounge and, most notably, the world-renowned Sazerac Bar.
The afternoon commences in the Blue Room at 1 p.m. with a three-course lunch, fashion show, live entertainment and recognition for the 2019 Reigning Spirit of the Sazerac. This year’s Reigning Spirit will be announced later this summer.
Following the luncheon, attendees will unite at 3 p.m. in the Roosevelt’s lobby to once again “storm” the Sazerac Bar in a second line. To properly honor the original “Stormin’,” guests are encouraged to wear late 1940s and 1950s attire including hats, veils, peep-toe shoes and gloves.
