Darlings, before I start this blog, I want to express my disbelief about the tragedy in Las Vegas. My prayers are for the wounded and those families who lost family members .May their souls RIP.

Unveiling Degas' Statue on the100th anniversary of his death
On Tuesday, the 100th anniversary of Degas’ death in Paris, David Villarrubia, founder of Degas House; Consul General of France, Hon. Vincent Sciama; and District D City Council member Jared C. Brossett unveiled a 4-foot-tall bronze reproduction of Degas’ most famous statue, “Little Dancer of Fourteen Years." On Wednesday, I was invited to attend Where magazine's 26th Annual Silver Plume Awards hosted by the exquisite NOPSI Hotel and it was superb. I enjoyed so much seeing so many of my darling longtime friends in the hospitality industry receiving the much-deserved award and recognition.
Presented annually throughout North America and Europe, Where’s Silver Plume Awards honor local hotel industry professionals for their ongoing contributions to tourism. In addition to concierges, the ceremony salutes general managers, marketing directors and other members of the New Orleans hospitality industry who serve as goodwill ambassadors for the city. My darling friend, Mark Romig, CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation, served as Master of Ceremony. On Thursday, it was a lovely night to visit art galleries which I did. The first one was at Callan Contemporary at 518 Julia Street. I was invited to the Patron Preview Reception for my longtime friend, talented artist Jose-Maria Cundin. Many of my contemporaries will remember his colorful whimsical artworks from 4141 Restaurant and Disco on St. Charles Avenue. Senor Cundin is a Spanish painter and sculptor. He was born in Getxo, Basque Country, Spain on March 19, 1938. St. Elizabeth's Guild 2017 Volunteer Activists Awards Luncheon
The annual St. Elizabeth’s Guild Volunteer Activists Awards Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency was lovely. The luncheon honored 10 community activists and the honorees were Constance Albert, Dianne Breaux, P. Kevin Colomb, Carol V. Hall, Russ M. Herman, Nora Nolan Lambert, Joyce W. Laporte, Paula Peterson Pizzaloto, Linda D. Sunseri and Cindy Schule Wooderson.
The guild also will honored Cheryl S. Cabes and Peter R. Quirk as Hall of Fame Activists for their continued support of the community. They were first honored by the guild 25 years ago. The awards were presented by Most Reverend Gregory M. Aymond, Archbishop of New Orleans and Kathi Zimmerman, President of St. Elizabeth's Guild.
The event included entertainment by the Victory Belles and a Dillard's fashion show, along with a silent auction, raffles and a parade of prizes. Darlings, I had such a great time riding with Chiquita Bergen in the Annual Desfile de las America which started at Elysian Fields and ended at Generations Hall where a fabulous fiesta was waiting for the revelers. I concluded my week by going to the annual Galatoire’s Goes Pink” Monday, October 2, to benefit Breastoration, a small organization that makes a huge impact in the lives of women facing the most difficult of all decisions following a breast cancer diagnosis. Their resources are limited, and they have no staff dedicated to fundraising or event-planning so they can use all the help they can get.

On Friday evening at 8:00 and again Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts, the New Orleans Opera Association kicks off its 75th Anniversary Season with twin-bill performances of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. These were the first two operas staged under the auspices of the Opera Association when it was founded in the summer of 1943 and they have been performed here again many times since then. Tickets are still on sale for both performances and, for an extra charge, you can enjoy a relaxing brunch in two sittings in the theater prior to the Sunday performance. Read more about it in this Thursday’s New Orleans Advocate, also posted on the newspaper’s website on Wednesday afternoon.
Also that weekend you should try to catch at least one of the three performances of “The Book of Saints,” a contemporary ballet production by the Marigny Opera Ballet company. All three performances are at 8:00 p.m. inside the Marigny Opera House, a repurposed church with wonderful acoustics, located at 725 St. Ferdinand Street in the Faubourg Marigny.
Well-known New York City Choreographer Teresa Fellion directs the eleven dancers through a series of vignettes depicting Saints Teresa of Avila, Sebastian the Martyr and Francis of Assisi. The dancers will be accompanied by members of the Krewe du Voix choir from Trinity Episcopal Church under the direction of Dr. Paul Weber and the New Resonance Chamber Orchestra conducted by Maestro Francis Scully. The musical score was composed by Tucker Fuller, who also composed the scores for “Orfeo” and “Giselle Deslondes,” both of which were danced by the MOH’s resident company over the past two seasons. More details will be published in this Thursday’s edition of the New Orleans Advocate, also posted on Wednesday afternoon.
Saturday, October 7 is “Art for Arts' Sake,” the annual tradition that opens the city's exciting art season. Join more than 30,000 art lovers at one of the most chic street parties ever, held each fall showcasing the fabulous galleries and shops open on Julia Street and elsewhere in the historic Warehouse Arts District and on Magazine Street.
Also that evening the Louisiana Museum Foundation presents the “Jump, Jive an’ Jazzin’ Gala” for 2017 featuring Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the New Orleans Jazz Museum in the Old U.S. Mint, 400 Esplanade Avenue.

The Louisiana Museum Foundation presents the Jump, Jive an' Jazzin' Gala for 2017 featuring Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint, 400 Esplanade. 2017 marks the 24th anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's arrival onto the music scene. Since its formation in the early nineties in Ventura, California, the band has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music, with sales of over 2 million albums to date. The band, cofounded by singer Scotty Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren, was at the forefront of the swing revival of that time, blending a vibrant fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz, swing, and Dixieland, with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's newest album, Louie Louie Louie is a rousing celebration of music legends Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan and Louis Prima. (Two musicians who became New Orleans' most famous native sons and a third who was undoubtedly influenced by the city.) These remarkable artists revolutionized American music and popular culture and set the standard for what great entertainment and artistic expression could be. The LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY PARTNERS WITH DIRTY COAST TO CELEBRATE BRUNCH AND CURE BLOOD CANCER
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is partnering with Dirty Coast and The Rusty Nail for The Big Over Easy, a celebration of brunch. The event will take place on Sunday, October 8th from 10am to 2pm and will feature bloody marys, a mimosa bar, a silent auction, live music, as well as brunch-inspired foods from some of the city's most popular food trucks. Tickets are $15 and proceeds will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
In 2015 Julian Haney, son of Dirty Coast founder, Blake Haney, was diagnosed with Leukemia at age 2. It was during that difficult time that Blake created The Big Over Easy, as a means to assist with his son's medical bills. It was a great success, so despite Julian being healthy today, Blake wanted to continue helping to raise money for blood cancer. He is teaming up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to raise money and awareness for all blood cancer patients by recreating The Big Over Easy and turning into an annual event that will take place each year on the Saints bye Sunday.
The Big Over Easy is a family-friendly celebration of brunch. The $15 ticket price includes one bloody mary and endless mimosas. A portion of the proceeds from the cash bar and food trucks will also be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The silent auction includes art, jewelry, New Orleans Saints memorabilia, and much more.
While the Lagniappe Brass Band will be preforming, there will be face painting and other activities for kids. The Bloody Mary Bar is being donated by Hot Tin & Bayou Bars at The Pontchartrain. Brunch Items by Petite Rouge, La Cocinita Food Truck NOLA, Frencheeze Food Truck and Taceaux Loceaux.
