A Toast to New Orleans May 7-13 : GiveNOLA/ Suits & Salads Luncheon/Project Lazarus' Guardian Angel/ Mother Day's

Darlings,

I hope you are enjoying this glorious spring weather and also enjoyed the second week of New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

For the first time ever, this year I attended the New Orleans Jazz Fest on three different days and I loved all of them!

My darling friend and editor, Dean Shapiro, and I were among the thousands of fans who helped close out the 2019 New Orleans Jazz Festival . It was indeed a very special Fest since it commemorated 50 Years of Joy!

We enjoyed seeing Jimmy Buffet followed by longtime friend, Trombone Shorty, with the Neville family (Aaron, Cyril, Ivan and Ian) passing on the tradition of closing the Jazz Fest at the Acura Stage. Aaron sang a beautiful, stirring rendition of one of his signature songs, “Amazing Grace.”

I want to thank my darling friends, Beth Arroyo Utterback, director of WWOZ for providing me with tickets and a pass to the lovely WWOZ Tent. I also need to thank my longtime friends, Carolina Lin Barnes and her husband Dwight Barnes, Director of Public Relations at Crescent Crown Distributing, for providing me tickets and a pass to the awesome LITE Beer Tent which I enjoyed tremendously. I loved seeing so many darlings friends and I felt blessed!

I could not miss the opportunity to attend the 50th Anniversary of the Jazz Fest and see Tom Jones, who I think I saw at least 50 years ago in Las Vegas.

For years, I only went to the Jazz Fest to buy additional posters to sell at Bergen Galleries but it felt good just to attend it for sheer pleasure. Thanks to my darling friend, Beth Arroyo Utterback, I enjoyed the comfort of the WWOZ Tent and loved seeing so many friends. The cool breeze provided the perfect weather to watch Tom Jones' performance which I loved.

I could not let Cinco de Mayo 2019 goes by without celebrating and before I went to the Jazz Fest I stopped by to see my friend, Gerald McGovern, for some delicious Mexican cuisine and some decadent libations.

Darlings, as you know, we don't need an excuse to have a party and, of course, the annual Kentucky Derby called for several celebrations and I attended :

WOW! The display of beautiful exquisite hats and fascinators was spectacular. Of course it made it hard to judge them but, thanks to Suzanne Carpenter Scott, we had winners. Hautes Dames Couture had an array of hats that were so beautiful that I wanted every one of them.
Of course, the luncheon was delicious! Congratulations  Mary Katherine Lonatro for a very memorable luncheon!

Darlings, after going to the lovely Shangri-La Kentucky Derby Luncheon, I stopped at Galatoire's Bar 33 and then went home to change clothes to make it to the NO Jazz and Heritage to see legendary Chris Owens and Diana Ross.

Unforgettable, that is the word to describe the 2019 Zoo To Do!

It is an annual fundraising gala hosted by Hancock-Whitney Bank that has been held at the Audubon Zoo since 1972. Each year, it takes place the first weekend on May. The funds raised at the event go towards various improvement projects at the zoo.

The event was a black-tie gala and white linen suits that featured live music, food from over 70 restaurants, specialty libations, an auction and a car raffle.

Prior to going to the Jazz Fest weekend I attended several fun events:

l
loved attending “The Wildest: Louis Prima Comes Home” opening reception which featured a special performance from Lena Prima, daughter of Louis Prima, the Arrowhead Jazz Band, hors d'oeuvres from the Garnished Palette, and an open bar highlighting local cocktails. I loved seeing so many of my longtime friends.

I also  loved attending the weekly YLC's Wednesday at the Square:

Oi! This grand ol' musical comedy was hailed, "the freshest and funniest musical to hit Broadway in ages". Me & My Girl exploded in London's West End where it entertained audiences for 8 years as well as 3 years on Broadway. This multiple Tony & Olivier award winning show whisks you back to the glittering 1930s, where the aristocratic Hareford family are seeking the legitimate heir to the title of Earl. Bill Snibson, a common-as-muck Lambeth cockney turns out to be the long lost Earl of Hareford, and chaos ensues as Bill does his best to learn the art of being posh. With rousing song & dance production numbers and side splitting physical comedy, audiences will be "doin the Lambeth Walk" long after the curtain comes down.
