A Toast to New Orleans August 7-13; Summer Cure Chefs Wine Dinner” Red Dress Run/ Dirty Linen Night/ Sisters of the Holy Family Benefit Concert & More....

With my darling friend, talented architectural artist Jimmy Blanchard at the Ogden Museum

Darlings,

I hope this blog will find you cool and enjoying all the fun-loving events that our beloved New Orleans has to offer.

Last week, was another social marathon for me and I managed to cover quite a few fun events as will see by these photolinks:

Opening of “Me Got Fiyo: The Professor Longhair Centennial"

Devoted fans of Professor Longhair gathered at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old US Mint for the opening of the exhibit “Me Got Fiyo: The Professor Longhair Centennial.”
“Me Got Fiyo” celebrates both the New Orleans Tricentennial and the centennial of the birth of the most beloved and influential pianist in New Orleans history: Henry Roeland Byrd aka Professor Longhair.

This exhibit showcases “all things Fess,” starting with his origins and development to his early hits such as “Tipitina,” “Mardi Gras In New Orleans,” and “Big Chief” to his 1970s comeback, his untimely death, and his continual presence and influence in New Orleans. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155403646660870.1073743232.581200869&type=1&l=4b38f2d62f

Greater New Orleans Hotel and Lodging Association 2018 Employee of the Year Award

My darling friend, talented Anita Matamoros Oubre, invited me to attend the lovely award ceremony for the Greater New Orleans Hotel and Lodging Association at the fabulous courtyard of the Mazarin Hotel. Anita was one of the nominees and they congratulated her for the honor of being recognized by her peers in the Hospitality Industry. My longtime friend and former City Attorney, Mavis Early, is the new Executive Director of The Greater New Orleans Hotel & Lodging Association (GNOHLA), which is a membership-based, not-for-profit, private association representing the hotel and lodging industry in the Greater New Orleans area. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155403683465870.1073743233.581200869&type=1&l=2148e93eb3

Kick-off of 2018 Satchmo SummerFest

As in the past, the annual sold-out kick-off soiree for the 2018 Satchmo SummerFest and the Spirit of Satchmo Award-winners at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel was outstanding.
It was indeed an evening of music by talented vocalist John Boutté and his band as we celebrated and honored the Spirit of Satchmo recipients Bethany Bultman, Ellis Marsalis and jazz trumpeter Ashlin Parker. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155403721045870.1073743234.581200869&type=1&l=2a678988b1

The Historic NO Collection's Antique Forum Champagne Reception
The Historic New Orleans Collection's Antique Forum Champagne Reception was lovely. It was good to see so many longtime friends and meet new one.
The SOLD-OUT 2018 New Orleans Antiques Forum explored the beauty of items used and valued in daily life long ago. Participants had the opportunity to learn from noted experts, tour private collections, and experience the fascinating sights, sounds, and flavors of the region.

"Taste of Louisiana" VIP Reception

The "Taste of Louisiana" VIP Reception hosted by Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board at Generations Hall was delicious. Celebrity Chef Paula Deen joined the reception which is part of the Great American Seafood Cook-off that is taking place August 4-5 at the Morial Convention Center as part of the Louisiana Restaurant Association's EXPO, now in its 65th year.

Congratulations to Lafayette Chef Ryan Trahan of Blue Dog Cafe crowned 2018 King of American Seafood by Lt. Governor Nungesser at the Morial Convention Center. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155406043905870.1073743236.581200869&type=1&l=5c550bb230

2018 International Red Hat Society

OMG! Judging, along with talented Louisiana artist Connie Born, creator of the Mardi Gras Mischievous Dolls, the Costume Contest for the RED HAT SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION, “Let The Good Times Roll” ~ “Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler” ~ New Orleans, Louisiana, USA (Aug. 1-5) at the Marriott was an incredible memorable experience. Connie presented the winner with her very special doll created for the Convention. I am so sorry that because I had to cover White Linen Night I could not stay for the Gala. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155408325170870.1073743237.581200869&type=1&l=d7fed3ae4f

2018 Hancock-Whitney White Linen Night

The 2018 Hancock-Whitney White Linen Night was a social tsunami for me as I went from one VIP party to another along the myriad of galleries on Julia Street and others nearby. I started my night at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, followed by the VIP soiree of the Hancock Whitney at the CAC and kept going. I always look forward to seeing the art as well as the artist in such an art-filed night.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155408586690870.1073743238.581200869&type=1&l=126aa31874

After -Party for the Red Hat Society

OMG again! I am still enjoying the memories of the After-Party for the organizers and directors of the International Red Hat Society Convention at the exquisite mansion of Renaissance man, Carl Mack, owner of the Mardi Gras Costumes & Culture Museum and his partner, Darric Cavalier in the Eastover subdivision of New Orleans East.
Darric cooked a fabulous delicious menu for the party. I enjoyed so much being invited and loved getting to know these fabulous members of the sisterhood of Red Hat Society.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155410276960870.1073743239.581200869&type=1&l=17a8e4df6a

Darlings, before I share all the wonderful fun events coming up, I want to share the sad news that one of the pillars of the Hispanic community passed away:

Vieux Carré by Tennessee WilliamsThe Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans

TWTC kicks off its FOURTH SEASON with an ALL STAR CAST. Set at 722 Toulouse Street, VIEUX CARRÉ follows a young writer, not unlike Williams himself, who arrives one winter in the Crescent City for the first time and falls in love with the fabled French Quarter. It's a dangerous affair, though, and one that involves ambiguous love triangles, desperate longing, and heartbreak. Will the boy be able to navigate his way out of the fog teeming with quarter characters, starving society ladies, hustlers, and buskers? Or will he find himself crushed in the flood of carnal and spiritual desire?

B+B was conceptualized with the idea that just as bubbles rise to the top of champagne, we should celebrate the ones around us who help others to rise. Along with no paid admission price to the event and complimentary champs-noshes, an honoree is selected that exudes superior creativity and success by setting the pace for the B+B group to keep pushing individualism along the journey to the measure of each member's personal success.
