A Toast to New Orleans: November 21-28 : Lighting ceremony for The Ritz, River walk,, Downtown Canal Street/ Happy Thanksgiving / Bayou Classic and More....

Darlings,

This was one weekend that we had so many reasons to celebrate and, as such, we did. First of all, I need to congratulate our newly elected New Orleans Mayor - my darling friend Latoya Cantrell - the first female mayor of the city of New Orleans and also to all the other winners of the election.

I also celebrated big time the 8th consecutive victory of the Saints. I was there cheering for them at the invitation of my darling friends the Gershaniks in their suite at the 50 yard line. What made it even more special was that my darling friend, talented bass baritone Ivan Griffin who just performed at my recent Round Table Luncheon, sang the National Anthem. Congratulations to him!

Darlings, my recent Round Table Luncheon saluting the New Orleans Authors was informative, entertaining and delicious. Co-hosted by Rosemary James who spoke about the upcoming WORDS & MUSIC: A Literary Feast in New Orleans - Celebrating the 20th Anniversary in 2017 (Dec. 6-10, 2017) we featured authors Chris ChampagneSecret New OrleansCheryl GerberNew Orleans: Life and Death in the Big EasyRuss HermanThe Topography of Life, Love and Travel; and Havilah MaloneHow to Become a Publicity Magnet.  In the spirit of Thanksgiving, David  Bottner, Executive Director of the New Orleans Mission, spoke briefly about their services.

The live entertainment was by the talented baritone, Ivan Griffin, accompanied by conductor Paul Mauffray on keyboard, who previewed selections from his edition of George Whitefield Chadwick's delightful, Tabasco - A Burlesque Operetta, that will be presented at Le Petite Theatre from January 25-28 as part of New Orleans Opera's 75th Anniversary Season. Pianist Jim Walpole played before and after the luncheon.

Please put in your calendar that the next one will be a very festive Round Table Luncheon saluting the Holidays and the upcoming New Orleans Tricentennial on Wednesday, December 13 at noon in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. I have asked my darling friend, Mark Romig, President and CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation, to be my co-host and will be asking the Cultural and Historical Co-chairs, Priscilla Lawrence and Sybil Morial, as well.

I have also invited our new Mayor-elect, Latoya Cantrell, as well as the Consul of Mexico, Carlos Ponce, and the Consul of France, Vincent Sciama and  Patti Lock with Tall Ships.

As you know every year, we feature a tasting of red wine by Dr. James Moises and a tasting of Champagne by Republic Beverages, in addition to a myriad of entertainers that will include Suzaune Yee McKamey, Becky Allen, Carl Mack, Marshall Harris, burlesque dancer Trixie Minx and others. Guests are encouraged to wear their finest holiday outfit or costumes and prizes will be given to the best! The $60, all-inclusive price includes a delicious, 3-course gourmet luncheon, champagne/wines and valet parking.

RESERVATIONS AND PREPAYMENT ARE REQUIRED. Walk-ins will not be accepted, as the hotel will only prepare meals for the number of guests who have made reservations. The chef needs to know how much to cook and I need to know how much champagne/wine to buy for the occasion. You can make reservations by calling Judy LeBlanc at (504) 571-4672 or email her atJudy.LeBlanc@BourbonOrleans.com

Around this time of the year, I normally join my brother Lorenzo Bergen at his time share condo in Destin, Florida but, because there were so many fun cultural/social events, I missed going there and it took a toll on me. So, unfortunately, I missed a few but fortunately I did not miss the following:

3rd Annual Christmas New Orleans Style
Darlings, would you believe that Christmas is already upon us?

Christmas New Orleans Style 2017 kicked off on Thursday, November 16 with the French Market District's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, followed by the French-American Chamber of Commerce's Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration on November 17. CNOS ends on Twelfth Night, January 6, 2018 when the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc parades in the French Quarter and Phunny Phorty Phellows board the St. Charles Avenue streetcar to herald the start of Carnival. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154822112910870.1073743004.581200869&type=1&l=29ddc4ed6a

At Home in the Vieux Carre
It is always a pleasure to visit, even if it’s briefly, the VCPORA 's event At Home in the Vieux Carre. This time it was the Season Opener and it was a the lovely condos of my darling friends Ira Babin and his next door neighbor Grace Wilsonhttps://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154826485700870.1073743005.581200869&type=1&l=8442f66553

Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration
The annual Beaujolais Noveau Celebration at the JW Marriott was awesome. The French-American Chamber of Commerce - Gulf Coast - celebrated the first wine of the harvest at the Marriott. The Celebration featured tastings from over 20 New Orleans vendors, with entertainment by The Yat Pack. Georges DuBoeuf-Beaujolias Nouveau, announced the inaugural Tour de Fromages, an annual cheese and wine festival debuting November 2018! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154826505995870.1073743006.581200869&type=1&l=3bc42ef247

St. Catherine's Day Hat Parade
On Sunday morning, since I am single and Duchess Chiquita Linda is a widow, before I headed to the Saints game, we went to the annual St. Catherine's Day Hat Parade. The New Orleans St. Catherine's Day Hat Parade, inspired by the annual event of the same name in Paris, is held the weekend before Thanksgiving. It's open to women and girls of all ages (as always, men and boys are welcome to tag along). St Catherine is the patron of the seamstress. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154829126615870.1073743007.581200869&type=1&l=e13e4ab8d1

Saints Game #7 at the Gershanik Suite
Darlings, I loved going to the Saints game. I want to thank my longtime darling friends Dr. Juan Gershanik and his lovely wife, Ana Ester, for hosting me and my brother, Lorenzo Bergen. It was so great to see the entire Gershanik family. I also enjoyed very much seeing my darling friend, talented baritone, Ivan Griffin, singing the National Anthem, as well as having my darling friend, talented Tony Award-winner Sue Vaccaro joining us for a few minutes at the suite. What a fabulous experience for my brother and I to be there for another victory for our beloved Saints, who are now in first place in their division. I’ll be honest, though; I need my brother to tell what each play means. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154829842325870.1073743008.581200869&type=1&l=47609d5c9b
i also did not miss attending  The Historic New Orleans Collection's Concert in the Courtyard with talented classic guitarist Javier Olondo and his band Asheson
Another event that I did not miss what the fabulous private collection Victorian Dolls by my old-time friend designer Raul Blanco

Darlings, I am so sorry that missed going to Trinity Church to see my darling friend, Conductor Paul Mauffray's “Fauré Requiem” benefit concert. As my darling friend Manon Prizgintas posted in Facebook:  Bravo BRAVO BRAVO Paul Mauffray C'etait ABSOLUMENT MAGNIFIQUE .. MERCI INFINIMENT.

I also hated missing the fabulous fundraiser for WYES:  SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL!

This week is going to be fabulous. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Based on thousands of pages from Leonardo's astonishing notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, Walter Isaacson weaves a narrative that connects his art to his science. He shows how Leonardo's genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the French Market District and all will be merrymaking at the multi-weekend St. Nick Celebration in Dutch Alley.  During four consecutive weekends beginning the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving the St. Nick Celebration will offer live music, an art market, kid’s activities, and photos with Santa!
Festivities will take place outdoors at the Dutch Alley Performance Pavilion and will feature performances for the whole family such as the Preservation Hall All-Star Band, the Victory Belles, and Johnette Downing.  “The French Market District is elated to offer St. Nick Celebration this holiday season,” stated Jeremy Smith, Director of Marketing & Development for the French Market Corporation. “With the District dressed in holiday style, including our 30 foot Christmas tree in Washington Artillery Park across from Jackson Square, we’re inviting locals, as well as tourists, to visit and enjoy.”
During the St. Nick Celebration the French Market District will offer free photos with Santa with a $25 purchase from select retailers in the historic Upper Pontalba Building on Jackson Square and along the Colonnade just beyond Café du Monde
