A Toast to New Orleans : November 14-19 - King and I/ Round Table Luncheon/ Politics with a Punch/ Beaujolais Festival/ WYES Shake, Rattle & Roll/ Que Pasa Festival/ Requiem

Darlings,

Another fabulous week has gone by and what made it even better, was the stunning victory of the Saints against the Bills. You cannot help but feel the air of victory that is contagious and I hope it keeps going because, my brother Lorenzo and I are going to be cheering for the Saints on Sunday at our darling friend's suite. Geaux Saints Go!

As you will see I had a very hectic week that ended at the lovely memorial for Dr. Russell Albright at NOMA and another one for my beloved Andre de La Barre at Lake Lawn Cemetery.
Please open the links below so you can see the photos.
33rd Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon
The 33rd Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon presented by AFP Greater New Orleans Chapter at the lovely Audubon Tea Room was both inspirational and delicious. I saw so many familiar faces and was very proud of their giving hearts. Andy Kopplin, President and CEO of Greater New Orleans Foundation, was the Keynote Speaker.
The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Greater New Orleans Chapter honored outstanding contributors for the New Orleans community. Open this link for all the details:

Preview of WYES' New Orleans: The First 300 Years!
On Thursday night, there were more soirees than I could possibly attend but I was really looking forward to going to WYES to see a very special preview of the fascinating documentary by Peggy Scott Laborde and narrated by actor John Goodman of “New Orleans: The First 300 Years.” I loved and you will all be able to see it on Wednesday, November 15 at 7 and 9 p.m. on WYES. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154804733505870.1073742991.581200869&type=1&l=13777de6d9

Krewe of Cork Luncheon
Darlings, Friday was a beautiful autumn day. I started my day by attending the monthly Krewe of Cork Luncheon and this month was at NOLA. It was delicious and I enjoyed seeing my fellow Corkians. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154808128270870.1073742992.581200869&type=1&l=696cc96f2b.

Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld
I concluded my fabulous Friday night of November 10 by attending the very entertaining New Orleans Opera Production of Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld at the Mahalia Jackson Theater.
i enjoyed so much seeing the brilliant cast that features favorite New Orleans-born artists and leading international talent.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154808370195870.1073742996.581200869&type=1&l=c03df60cb6
Victory Ball 2017
The Annual Victory Ball at the National WWII Museum on the eve of Veterans Day was a lavish event featuring cocktails, an open bar, food stations, three stages of live music and unlimited access to the museum’s pavilions and exhibits in salute of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to our freedom. It was delightful. I only attended briefly the Patron Party but I saw many longtime friends.

The 39th Annual Howling Success Patron Party & Gala
The 39th Annual Howling Success Patron Party & Gala at the Hyatt Regency's Empire Ballroom was indeed transported through space to celebrate our theme "Out of this World!" Guests enjoyed specialty acts throughout the night and stellar silent auctions at Howling Success 2017. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154808182345870.1073742995.581200869&type=1&l=e5027852f
Celebrating Kim Rogers
Sunday, November 12 was a hectic but fabulous day in my beloved New Orleans.
I was invited by my darling friend, the always-elegant Kim Rogers and her family to join her at a lovely luncheon at the New Orleans Country Club. It was a like a reunion of longtime friends and I loved it. Kim was, for years, the director of Dyansen Gallery, now called the Martin Lawrence Gallery on Royal Street and in Beverly Hills. While in Los Angeles, I was invited to openings that included Erte, Elizabeth Taylor, Dick Clark and many other actors and Playboy bunnies. I invited Kim to accompany me to the White House and Washington where we spent a week filled with awesome soirees. Great memories. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154813281985870.1073742998.581200869&type=1&l=51b814f11a

Casa Argentina Fall BBQ
Casa Argentina's Fall BBQ or Asado was postponed until Sunday because of the weather. As in the past, it was held at City Park and it was delicious with the Julio and Cesar Trio performing to the delight of the many guests.

Holly-Anne Palmer Dias de los Muertos Birthday Party
Darlings, I did not mind pulling out my favorite Dia de los Muertos costume to attend the best Dia de los Muertos Birthday Party for my darling friend, talented Holly-Anne Palmer. Beautifully dressed Holly-Anne thought of everything. The costumes, the setting, the food, the libations, the band: you name it and she had it. I had a great time and by 8 p.m. I was already at home resting for a very busy Sunday.
Celebration of Life for Andre de La Barre
Darlings, as you all know, I lost my beloved King Andre Pascalis Volant de La Barre a few weeks ago at age 59.
Andre and I reigned as the Millennium Monarchs of the Krewe of Shangri-la in year 2000. Tonight there was a lovely Celebration of Life for Andre, conducted by his longtime friend, Rev. Tommy Boudreaux, at Lake Lawn Cemetery in Metairie. Out of respect I didn't take any photos at the Funeral Home but there was a lovely soiree hosted by his friends at Maison du Parc On Barracks Street. Many of his friends gathered to share photos, memories, etc.

Darlings, this week is going to be a very special  week since I am looking forward  to hosting this Wednesday, November 15 at noon, my annual Literary  Round Table luncheon Saluting New Orleans Authors and their books. (see below for all the details).

Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I

Nov 14, 2017 to Nov 19, 2017

07:30 PM until 10:00 PM
THE KING AND I, directed by Tony Award® winner Bartlett Sher, won four 2015 Tony Awards® including Best Revival of a Musical.  Hailed as "first-rate, sumptuous" (The New York Times) and "too beautiful to miss" (New York Magazine), the production played 538 performances on Broadway at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.
Set in 1860's Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher, whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.
