A Toast to New Orleans‏

Darlings,

Another fabulous week has gone in my beloved New Orleans.

It could have been perfect except our beloved Saints failed to beat the Cincinnati Bengals at the Superdome. What made it painful for me it was that I was invited by my darling friends Dr. Juan Gershanik and his wife Ana Ester to their suite on the 50 yard line and I was so disappointed by their performance that I just wanted to leave but my brother Lorenzo insisted on staying until the end. Let's pray that the team improves in the other upcoming games.

Prior to Sunday's game, the events that I attended were superb.

Veterans Day was a socially busy day for me. Of course what else is new?

Right after work at Casell Bergen Gallery I went to the Pisco Party at Tiki Tolteca, above Felipe's on N. Peters Street for the Museum of the American Cocktail's celebration of the cocktail hour. I indulged and imbibed with like-minded souls delicious, decadent cocktails made with Pisco. We tasted and learned about this interesting and delicious grape brandy from Peru.

My next stop was at the lovely home of Susie Hoskins, on St Charles Avenue, where a Tennessee Williams Festival Preview Party was being held. The Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival is the annual five-day celebration to be held March 25-29, 2015, which showcases national and regional scholars and writers.
That night, I was invited to attend on Veterans Day at the National World War II Museum, the New Orleans Mission Inaugural Veterans Day Gala – “Honoring Our Heroes.” It was truly an inspirational evening and a great way to remember our homeless veterans. All proceeds benefit New Orleans Mission and their goal of making sure everyone has a place to call home.

The next morning, I had so much fun when I attended the kickoff celebration for FestiGals 5th year at the JW. Marriott. The festival will be on June 11-14, 2015. Empowering and Enriching Women, New Orleans Style!

The unveiling of the 2014 Royal Teddy Bear Ornament by The Royal Sonesta New Orleans and Children's Hospital New Orleans at Hyphen-Art Gallery was lovely. The commissioned artist Jason Michael Mullan, along with Emma & Berkeley, two patients from Children Hospital were present. These two patients will have the honor of a ceremonial “flip of the switch” to turn on the 9th Annual Lighting of the Balconies on Wednesday December 3, at 6:00 p.m. Remember to mark your calendars and plan to join in the fun of this heartwarming annual celebration that is free and open to the public!

Darlings, as a guest of the Royal Sonesta Hotel, I attended the crowning of Oyster Royalty  at the  Ella Brennan Lifetime Achievement Award  at the National WW II Museum. It was truly a gastronomical delight.

The 2014 Ella Brennan Lifetime Achievement in Hospitality Award was bestowed upon Drago & Klara Cvitanovich, founders of Drago's Seafood Restaurant. For 45 years they have served the Greater New Orleans region making it stronger, safer and more united.
Friday night was one of those nights that I call “O What a Night!” I started it at the fabulous black tie dinner gala- the annual Moonlight & Miracles to benefit Ochsner Health System.
Held on the green of the Superdome, Ochsner's annual fundraiser, chaired by Gayle Benson,  included entertainment, food, raffles and auctions while raising money and awareness of Ochsner's extensive health programs.
My evening continued and my next exciting soiree was the fabulous production of the New Orleans Opera's “Rusalka.” I got there just in time for the intermission and the champagne reception for the Mastersigners. I was invited backstage to greet the performers that included my talented darling friend, soprano Kathleen Halm who played the Foreign Princess.
On Saturday, I attended the lovely 2nd Annual Louisiana International Trade Gala at the National WW II Museum. I am a member of the WTC but I was the guest of Paul G. Aucoin, Executive Director of Port of South Louisiana. The Gala included dinner and dancing, live entertainment by Delfeayo Marsalis, silent and live auctions, as well as a special presentation of the Eugene J. Schreiber Award to Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr. MD.
Well darlings, after the awful Saints game, I just went home and collapsed and was very happy watching WYES and fabulous lineup of Masterpiece Theater and other British productions.
This upcoming week is going to be very special because three fabulous events that I am involved will take place.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19 at noon, will be the annual Royal Sonesta's Round Table Luncheon:  “Giving Back and Giving Thanks.” My darling friends, Timothy Todd Simmons, Executive Director of the New Orleans Opera will be playing the piano for the performance of his lovely wife, soprano Kathleen Halm, who just played the Foreign Princess in the fabulous production of “Rusalka.”  (See below for all details including menu and telephone number for reservations.)

That evening, I have been invited to the annual Preview of the Christmas in the Oaks at the beautiful illuminated City Park.

The other two events that I am looking forward to are the annual New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s (NOHHF) 25th annual Azúcar Ball is themed La Bamba! Please join us on November 22 for dancing, dinner, and drinks. We will transform the New Orleans Marriott into a lavish fiesta featuring live Mariachi performances, specialty tequila, and unparalleled entertainment.

That same Saturday evening I have been cast as MC for the Humane Society "No Kill" Shelter Gala at theEiffel Society. It will be a delightful, decadent Fur de Lis Costume Gala to help animals in need.
On Sunday, I am looking forward to the Catherinettes Parade this Sunday. Check all the information below.

Have a great week.
