A Toast to New Orleans October 16-22: Night Against Crime/ NO Film Festival/ O What a Night/ Krewe of Boo/ Dance Theatre of Harlem & more......

Darlings,

Don't you just love the glorious fall weather? I have been enjoying it so much and, fortunately, I had the opportunity to be outdoors for a few of the fun events that I attended.

I started my social week by attending a very lovely and delicious

Celebration of Life for Chef René Bajeaux
The Celebration of the Life of talented and acclaimed French Chef René Bajeaux at Patrick van Hoorebeek's Patrick's Bar and Vin was a class act and very moving.

His wife Penny, and their two children, Remy and Clara were there, as well as numerous chefs and many of his friends. René Bajeux spent two decades helming kitchens in New Orleans, including several that he owned and operated. He was one of only 55 "Master French Chefs" in the United States and he moved to New Orleans in 1997. He will be missed. RIP. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155556677760870&type=1&l=bf01599807

LPO's Baubles and Bubbly for Beethoven
The annual Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra's “Baubles and Bubbly for Beethoven” at the beautiful Garden District home of Mary Matalin and James Carville was, as in the past, lovely and delicious. The host and hostess were in NYC but the wonderful evening included ready to purchase designer accessories, shoes, scarves, jackets and jewelry from the Encore Shop.

2018 Saks Fifth Avenue 's Key to the Cure Kickoff Gala
Also, as in the past, the 2018 Annual Saks Fifth Avenue's Key to the Cure Kickoff Gala - a Charity Shopping Weekend, fashion show with food and music - was AWESOME!

2018 Magic in the Moonlight
Indeed it was magical! Glorious weather and a bright crescent moon shined upon the guests of the 2018 Magic in the Moonlight presented by the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust. The majestic oaks and the twinkling lights of the New Orleans Botanical Garden were the setting for the annual alfresco dinner served under the lit oaks showcasing the new Helis Foundation Enrique Alférez Sculpture Garden and the new entrance to the Botanical Garden and Storyland.

Carlos Hornbrook's Wine Tasting
After the Patron Party for the Magic at the Moonlight, my next soiree was a lovely outdoor wine tasting event hosted by Carlos J. Hornbrook in honor of the birthday of his wife Erica on top of the 700 South Peters Condominiums.

Carlos was the high bidder for the wine-tasting that was auctioned off at the annual Susan G. Komen Summer Cure Chef's Wine Dinner at the Windsor Court. The tasting coordinated by Joseph Briand included delicious food from Bacchanal and its executive chef Joaquin Rodas was present.

Carnaval Latino's 2018 Desfile of Las Americas
Carnaval Latino ¡Viva Nueva Orleans!--A Celebration of the Americas

Mother Nature blessed parade participants and revelers with glorious weather to celebrate Carnaval Latino's Parade of the America which wound through our historic French Quarter, where Spanish architecture abounds. It was a sector rebuild from the ashes of two great fires by the Spanish governors of Louisiana in the late 1700s. It ended in the Warehouse District where trade with Latin America helped make our city the Gateway to the Americas. The Hispanic-American Musicians and Artists Cultural Association, Inc. (HAMACA), presenters of the annual Carnaval Latino, invited me, as they have done in the past, to ride as the first local Queen Carnival Latino, in a beautiful convertible courtesy of my darling friend Terry Toppino.

"The Spirit of the Vieux Carré Gala"
The Spirit of the Vieux Carré was felt at the historic Old Ursuline Convent as the Vieux Carré Commission Foundation welcomed guests to the lovely "Spirit of the Vieux Carré Gala" celebrating the Past-Present-Future!

The fabulous and delicious gala was chaired by Daniela & Elie Khoury, Juli Miller Hart, and Sydney Anderson with Honorary Chairs Louellen & Darryl Berger. The Gala honored founder and my longtime friend, S. Stewart Farnet; Master Craftsmen Jeffrey M. Poree and Darryl Reeves and the St. Louis Cathedral Rector, the Very Reverend Philip G. Landry

A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2
By Lucas Hnath
Directed by Aimée Hayes

When Nora knocks on the door of the house she left 15 years ago, the whole family is in for a surprise.  A bold comedy that's both insightful and heartfelt,  A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2 deftly navigates an emotional obstacle course of regret, recrimination, and reconciliation.
