Darlings,
We must notify Mother Nature and let her know that we still have about five weeks to go before it’s officially summer. It has been steaming hot and I have avoided any outdoor activities with the exception of two of them.

Press Conference and Dedication of Homer Plessy Way
What a glorious afternoon to attend the press conference and dedication of Homer Plessy Way and the unveiling of a new mural by Ayo Scott (son of legendary artist John Scott) at the intersection of Homer Plessy Way (formerly Press Street) and Royal Street in New Orleans' Faubourg Marigny neighborhood. There were remarks by special guest, the Honorable Cedric Richmond, plus representatives from the Plessy & Ferguson Foundation, The NOCCA Institute, and others.

Cocktail Buffet for Carter Hooper & Michael Fisher

The exquisite French Quarter home and its garden of Drs. Brobson Lutz and Kenneth Combs   was the setting for the fabulous, delicious vegetarian cocktail buffet feast hosted by Drs. Lutz and Combs in honor of my darling friend, my photo editor at New Orleans LivingCarter Hooper, and his partner, Michael Fisher. They live in Portland, Oregon and were visiting New Orleans. I loved seeing longtime friends, authors John Berendt (Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) and James Cobbs Jr. (Flood of Lies)https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155272378030870.1073743192.581200869&type=1&l=56ef9f6358

Fortunately all the other soirees were held indoors and I was grateful.

2018 Juleps in June

The annual Juleps in June presented by “One Book One New Orleans” was just lovely at the exquisite home of Honorary Chair Pam Georges Dongieux . It was indeed a fun evening of decadent mint juleps, great literature and delicious cuisine inspired by New Orleans: A Food Biography by Elizabeth M. Williams which highlighted our rich culinary history and the literature that has come from it.

Guests, dressed in summer cocktail attire and fabulous hats, enjoyed food provided by Tujague's Restaurant, a bar sponsored by Second Line Brewing, Mint Juleps with mix provided by the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society, Inc. and flowers beautifully arranged by Honorary Chair Pam Georges Dongieux. Music was by Kristin Diable.
All proceeds from this event will benefit our community outreach efforts and our festival, Words & Music. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155270245920870.1073743191.581200869&type=1&l=18ae5f7e1a
National Kidney Foundation Big Easy Brunch

I enjoyed the lovely and delicious National Kidney Foundation Big Easy Brunch – “Rise and Dine” at the Sheraton New Orleans Armstrong Ballroom. Guests enjoyed Brunch Bites, Bottomless Mimosas, Tito’s Vodka Bar, Live Auction & Prize Punch Wall while entertained with jazz by the Alex Owen Triohttps://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155273528105870.1073743193.581200869&type=1&l=4323f2199d

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2018 New Orleans Oyster Day Festival!
The Ninth Annual New Orleans Oyster Festival celebrated that local delicacy – the oyster – this past weekend at Woldenberg Riverfront Park alongside the Mississippi River. More than 20 restaurants showed off their versatility of our region’s favorite bivalve at the festival. The Festival once again featured oyster competitions, including the Acme Oyster House World Oyster Eating Championship, the P&J Oyster Shucking Competition and The New Orleans Fish House Largest Oyster Contest. photos By Chuck Billiot

On a sad note, we are all mourning the untimely loss of our Grande Dame of the New Orleans Culinary World, Ella Brennan. She was 92 and enjoyed a memorable and fulfilling life in our city’s world-renowned restaurant culture. May she rest in peace. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/01/obituaries/ella-brennan-grande-dame-restaurateur-of-new-orleans-dies-at-92.html
