A Toast to New Orleans May 8-14: Round table Luncheon/ Bright Lights Award Dinner/ Project lazarus Award Dinner/ Art & Soul/Mother Day's celebrations & more...

Darlings,

Glorious weather shone brightly this past week for the final weekend of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Audubon's Zoo-To-Do and the historic inauguration of the first female mayor, of the City of New Orleans LaToya Cantrell

I felt very fortunate to have been able to cover the swearing-in ceremony and the black-tie Inauguration Ball at Mardi Gras World. Congratulations to our new mayor, LaToya Cantrell, and the entire New Orleans City Council, which now includes its first Vietnamese member, Cyndi Nguyen and Helena Moreno, the first Hispanic Council member !

LaToya Cantrell's Inauguration Ceremony & Ball
The Inaugural Ceremony and Ball for our newly elected first female Mayor of the City of New Orleans LaToya Cantrell was spectacular. I am elated to have been part of it and seeing so many long time friends, Congratulations to Mayor  Latoya Cantrell and the new New Orleans City Council, the most diverse group of representatives since the city's founding 300 years ago. The City Council is comprised of five districts and two councilmembers-at-large. Councilmember-at-Large Helena Moreno; Councilmember-at-Large Jason Rogers Williams; District "A" Councilmember Joseph I .Giarrusso; District "B" Councilmember Jay Banks; District "C" Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer ; District "D" Councilmember Jared C. Brossett; and District "E" Councilmember Cyndi Nguyen

These are some of the  fun soirees that I attended last week.

2018 Women’s Business Symposium

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana's 2018 Women’s Business Symposium at the Sheraton Metairie was awesome. It was very well attended and the speakers were superb. I was so elated to be a woman and seeing the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce taking a leadership position in organizing superb symposium like this. APLAUSO!https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155209714255870.1073743160.581200869&type=1&l=a0df27beec

2018 Whitney Zoo-To-Do
The 2018 Whitney Zoo-To-Do at Audubon Zoo celebrated its 45th anniversary as well as "Lions and the Roar Returns!"

The evening was just perfect for all the men in white linen suits, tuxedos and the beautifully dressed ladies who enjoyed fabulous cuisine and decadent libations. The new lion exhibit, made possible through a generous donation from Joy and Boysie Bollinger, was the focus of the two Zoo-To-Do events, which generate more than $1 million annually for world-class Audubon Zoo projects.

Kentucky Derby 2018 viewing soirees
Good morning darlings. Unlike the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs that featured record rainfall, New Orleans kept the rain away so that we could sport our beautiful chapeaus at Galatoire's and Patrick's Bar Vin. Justify and jockey Mike Smith braved the worst weather in Derby history to make history itself in the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby.

This week is going to be another very busy one for me. Of course, the highlight of my week will be the hosting of the May Round Table Luncheon at noon in the historic ballroom of the Bourbon Orleans.
 Wednesday, May 9

And, for pure fun and enjoyment, you might want to get out to Café Istanbul in the New Orleans Healing Center this Friday or Saturday for one of the two concerts being performed by Well-Strung, a string quartet that meshes classical and pop music to widespread acclaim. The group’s four members, Christopher Marchant and Edmund Bagnell on violins, Trevor Wadleigh on viola and Daniel Shevlin on cello, perform a repertoire that ranges from Mozart to Madonna, Vivaldi to Britany Spears, Beethoven to Taylor Swift and much more. Since their founding in 2012 they have built up a demographic following from children and teenagers to senior citizens while spanning a musical timeline of over 300 years.
These classically trained musicians not only play their instruments, they all sing as well. They are the ultimate “crossover” group and they’re on their way to becoming “the next big thing!” You can read more about Well-Strung in this Thursday’s BEAUCOUP magazine in the New Orleans Advocate, also posted online on Wednesday, May 9.

Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Cafe Istanbul, 2372 St. Claude Ave., at the corner of St. Roch. Tickets are $35-$45. For more info call (504) 975-0286 or visit brownpapertickets.com/event/3327287.
