A Toast to New Orleans August 1-7 : Satchmo SummerFest/New Orleans Antique Forum/ White Linen plus COOLinary and Museum Months and more

Darlings,
I was delayed this morning sending this blog because, I went with my brother Lorenzo Bergen and my friend Michael Langford to Diamondhead, Ms. where my darling friend, talented Joaquin Casell is celebrating his 90th birthday. He still drives, paint and looks good for his age.
In the photos his girlfriend Colette, Joaquin, me and Lorenzo.

I also got some good news,
The first one is that I will be helping out as a Social consultant  to Dr. Thomas Albert who is running for Mayor of the City of New Orleans. You will be hearing from me so you get to know him and his platform.  He and his wife are native New Orleanians. He graduated from LSU was  Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology of Louisiana State University Medical School New Orleans from 1994-97.
In   2010, purchased historic properties in New Orleans and Natchitoches, including  Honorable  Lindy Boggs's historic residence at 623 Bourbon Street, New Orleans, LA, with all the home's historical contents.  Their residence is the only remaining domicile on the commercial sector of Bourbon. Here is a lovely article  written by Stephanie Bruno http://www.nola.com/homegarden/index.ssf/2011/05/the_new_owners_of_lindy_boggs.html
www.nola.com
By purchasing the house on Bourbon Street, the Alberts not only reclaimed a part of their family history, but also became guardians of Lindy Boggs' legacy.
Many of the French Quarter residents will remember his father NOPD Captain Thomas Sr, Commander of the 8th District.

Capt. Thomas Albert Sr. collapsed at his desk, killed by a massive heart attack caused by the long hours and stress of working during the 1979 police strike.
The second good news is that I relisted again my condo at 811 Marigny St. Condo : It has been appraised at $399,000 but I listed for only $299,990

Darlings, last week, if my memory doesn’t fail me, I warned you that this week past week was going to be busy but that you would also need to save your energy for this upcoming week.
Well, I sure was going from one fun party to another. Among them was the press conference by the Krewe of Stars announcing the 2018 Royalty.
Next year’s theme is legends and, of course, they selected two musical legends: Al "Carnival Time" Johnson as the King and Grammy Award-winner Irma ThomasI cannot wait for the next “Show Ball for All” which will be on Saturday, January 26, 2018 at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center, 6400 Airline Drive in Metairie. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154538414755870.1073742897.581200869&type=1&l=10e8f8f2e2
My darling friend Holley Haag invited me to cover the YOU NIGHT Cancer Survivor Runway Show at the Contemporary Arts Center and it was spectacular. Holley co-shared the fun event with Tiffany Swoboda and Dawn Gallo.
It was the Graduation Class 2017. The program culminated in a graduation ceremony that was a celebration of life -- a fashion show spotlighted the survivors and attended by their friends, families and, importantly, their caregivers. I love its motto: “We help women embrace life beyond a cancer diagnosis.” I am blessed that cancer does not run in my life but it is comforting to know that there is such a wonderful program to help women with cancer. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154543325295870.1073742898.581200869&type=1&l=8ebbc677b5
I also enjoyed attending Politics with a Punch at the Eiffel Society. The panel made it very  interesting and memorable.

The other fun event that I attended was the 48 Hour Film Project New Orleans. Thanks to my darling friend, talented Kathi Callahan, I enjoyed tremendously attending the World Premiere Screening of 10 short films of 48 Hour Film Project New Orleans at the National WWII Museum. The producers and cast of the films were present. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154544664730870.1073742899.581200869&type=1&l=5a4600bdc5
My darling friend, talented pianist Harry Mayronne was playing at Effervencence and I got a change to reminisce about my favorite art-deco restaurant Jonathan and those wonderful memories that we share together.
On Sunday, I went briefly to Lakeside Shopping Center where my darling friend, Cheryl Welliver, was producing  the  23rd Welliver Bridal Expo. I brought a bag of canned food to be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
Every year I look forward to this week since so many fun events are taking place. Among them is the Annual Satchmo SummerFest Festival. Satchmo SummerFest 2017 will take place over the weekend of August 4-6 at the Old U.S. Mint in the French Quarter. There is a $5 daily admission fee for adults, but children 12 and under get in free. The $5 admission fee includes a wristband that allows festivalgoers to come and go throughout the day.
Satchmo Symposium: In addition to all the lively outdoor music and food, the festival includes indoor events that feature inspiring seminars and lectures by musical authorities held at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint.
I am looking forward to attending the always fun Satchmo SummerFest Kickoff Party on Thursday, August 3 at the Onmi Royal Orleans Hotel. For full details on this year’s lineup with dates, times and stages, log onto www.fqfi.org/satchmo.

I am also looking forward to seeing Gypsy, the final production of the 2017 Summer Lyric Theatre season at Tulane University. I will be attending the preview on Wednesday, August 2 and the production runs through Sunday, August 6. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. It should be fun!

Thursday - Sunday: August 3-6, 2017 New Orleans Antiques Forum

August 5
America's Best Seafood Chef will be crowned on Aug. 5 at the 14th annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off, a cooking competition in New Orleans that pits 12 U.S. chefs against one another in a timed, live cooking show.
The cook-off, which runs 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, takes place during the first day of the Louisiana Food Service and Hospitality Expo, where companies demonstrate and promote their products and services to restaurant owners and operators. The expo continues through Monday at the convention center. Both events are open to the public.
Aug. 5 -White Linen Night at the Warehouse District
Sponsored by Whitney Bank, Whitney White Linen Night will be held this year on Saturday, August 5. In the closed-off 300 to 600 blocks of Julia Street, three stages are set up for live entertainment featuring some of New Orleans' top bands.
This year’s event features over 20 galleries and museums, as well as food and cocktails from 25 local restaurants.
Darlings, in addition to the above events, during the entire month of August there will be two great events; August COOlinary Month: New Orleans CVB Launches 13th Annual COOLinary New Orleans Restaurant Month, offering special two- and three-course lunch menus for $20 or less, three-course dinner menus for $39 or less and three-course brunch menus for $39 or less, available August 1-31, 2017.

The other very special event is
