A Toast to New Orleans, and all the Fathers out there! June 13- 19 : Leukemia's MAN & WOMAN OF THE YEAR/ The New Orleans Chamber Orchestra / Happy Father's Day

Burlesque Star Trixie Mink2017 Grand Diva Robin Barnes , founder of Festigals  Diane Lyons and Have been
Grand Divas Irma Thomas and yours truly!
Darlings,
I hope you enjoyed this past week that was so full of exciting events and parades as only our beloved New Orleans could provide.
I couldn't do them all, but the ones that I attended I enjoyed tremendously.
I started my week by attending a lovely press conference for FestiGals at the Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes & Culture on Conti Street. During this press conference FestiGals revealed the details of its action-packed lineup for the seventh annual women-centric event that is slated to take place June 22-24 at the JW Marriott on Canal Street.
FestiGals also made announcements of the keynote speakers, the new parade route for the traditional Stiletto Stroll, and the celebration of the elaborate coronation of the 2017 Grand Diva, talented vocalist Robin Barnes. Congratulations to my darling friend!
That evening I attended the opening of the always-popular Broadway in New Orleans production of Mama Mia at the Saenger Theatre. I must have seen this play at least six times in the past but I find it, like a great opera, to be refreshing and entertaining.
I also enjoyed very much attending briefly the Patron Reception for the National WWII Museum’s "American Spirit Awards" presented by Whitney Bank at the Windsor Court Hotel. I got to see some of the honorees and a lot of familiar faces. The annual American Spirit Awards Gala celebrates individuals and organizations whose work reflects the values and spirit of those who served our country during the WW II years. It honors those who inspire others through their own acts of courage, sacrifice, initiative, and generosity-particularly in the areas of leadership, service to country or community, and education.

On Thursday, I enjoyed attending Thursday at Twilight, where my darling friends, talented guitarists Julio and Cesar and their group performed at the Pavilion of Two Sisters in City Park.
On Friday, I loved attending the opening night and the party afterwards of  It's Only a Play at Le Petit Theatre. The play was magnificently funny with a great cast of seasoned actors and it will be playing until June 25. Not to be missed! In an exciting partnership with independent theatre company, The NOLA Project, Le Petit closed its 100th Anniversary Season with this outrageously funny farce by Tony and Emmy Award-winning writer Terrence McNally.
On Saturday, it was time to attend the annual Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s Magnolia Ball Celebrating the Exhibitions.
I enjoyed so much catching up with some of the fabulous exhibits such as the one of my darling friend, James Michalopoulos. This year’s Magnolia Ball celebrated the Ogden Museum’s photography exhibitions, The Colourful South: William Christenberry, Birney Imes, William Greiner, William Ferris and Alec Soth and William Eggleston: Troubled Waters, From the Collection of William Greiner. Co-chairs of this year’s event were Hattie and Corey Moll, Elliot Hutchinson, and Emily Shaya.
On Sunday, it was one of my favorite annual events: The English-Speaking Union New Orleans Branch's Queen Elizabeth Birthday
Darlings, every year I look forward to dressing "A La Queen" to attend this event at the New Orleans Country Club. Because of the English weather, the Queen celebrates two birthdays each year: her actual birthday on April 21 and her official birthday on the second Saturday in June and in New Orleans it is the second Sunday.

Dr Quinn Peeper, National President of the English Speaking Union with winners of hat contest: Shauna Grissett. Eileen Massett Planetta,Sarah Abrusley., last year winner Sylvia Porteous and Mary de La Barre. Congratulations to all the winners!  (See link below)

I was invited and went briefly to the annual LPO Volunteers End of the Year Soiree at the lovely home of Price and Christine LeBlanc.

Father Comes Home

West Texas, 1862. "Hero" is promised his freedom from slavery in exchange for his service in the Civil War-on the Confederate side. He leaves behind his community, his father, and the woman he loves for what may be an empty promise; what he finds on the front lines might make it impossible for him to return home the same man. Featuring live music, this three-act play has been hailed as a "masterpiece" (New York Magazine) and "the finest work yet" by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks (New York Times).
Directed by Valerie Curtis-Newton
Featuring Sam Malone, Robert Diago DoQui, Idella Johnson, John Ray Proctor, Martin Bradford, Lakesha Glover, Harold X. Evans, Zeb Hollins III, Todd d'Amour and Greg Baber
