Walk-ins will not be accepted as the hotel will only prepare for the number of guests that have made reservations and I need to have flowing Champagne for all of you courtesy of my darling friend, Tiffa Boutte. Please contact Judy LeBlanc with Bourbon Orleans Sales at 504-571-4672 or Judy.LeBlanc@BourbonOrleans.com to confirm.

44th Annual Krewe of CAMAN Ball
Margarita Bergen, Coast Guard Rear Admiral David Callahan , Past CAMAN Queen Kathi Callahan, Coast Guard Captain Mel Bouboulis, and Past CAMAN Queen Janet Nagelin

Carnival Time is here and, as such, I have been enjoying its festivities.

Last week, I attended two lovely soirees: The fun and artsy "Meeting of the Carnival Courts" presented at the New Orleans Art Center, 3330 St. Claude Avenue,  and the  44th Annual Krewe of CAMAN Ball at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.

This was a historic, never before a meeting of courts, many of them centered below Canal St., or near the art center. The organizers, the New Orleans Art Center, artist Morgan Molthrop, and benefitting the Creative Alliance of New Orleans, think a meeting of the courts does not have to be an exclusive event. There are now more organizations participating in Carnival than ever before, including traditional Krewes, Marching Clubs, Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs, Mardi Gras Indian Tribes, and Second Line organizations. The organizers hope to open a new spirit of respect and appreciation between old and new groups and to stimulate new, innovative and inclusive ideas about celebrating Carnival.

This event celebrated the opening of an art installation by artist Morgan Molthrop who painted numerous murals about an imaginary visit of Alexander the Great to contemporary New Orleans. Alexander appreciated the diverse cultures of his empire, so Molthrop was curious what his take on our Carnival culture might be like.

All members of our organization were invited to attend. The party was a benefit for CANO that works to help artists of all disciplines achieve fulfilling creative careers; helps students learn about educational and career opportunities in the creative arts and works to grow our cultural economy.

As the Monday's The Advocate stated: CAMAN rocks Carnival merriment with military style.
Indeed it did. I love men in uniform and the pageantry associated with it, so I was in heaven last night.

The Military Officers Wives' Club's Krewe of CAMAN(Coast Guard, Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy) entertained more than 325 active-duty, reserve and retired military officers and their guests at its 44th Annual ball last night at the grand ballroom of the Hilton Hotel Riverside.
The ball's theme was "Get Ready to Rock" and indeed we did.

Before I end this blog, I want to share that I have just been informed that I have been selected to be the 2017 Queen of Mardi Gras Mambo and feel so honored.

Kenner, LA- Cervantes Fundación Hispanoamericana de Arte announced Juan LaFonta and Margarita Bergen as its King and Queen of Mardi Gras Mambo 2017. The carnival ball will take place on Friday, February 17, from 5 pm to 10 pm, at the New Orleans Museum of Art. The event will be part of the Friday Nights at NOMA series which has partnered with Cervantes Foundation to celebrate the fourth annual celebration.
The evening will be full of live music by AsheSon and dance performances highlighting the rhythms of Carnival in Latin America and New Orleans. Some of the rhythms will include Conga, Samba and Second-line. There will also be guided tours of NOMA’s exhibition, “A Life of Seduction: Venice in the 1700s”, which will open that night and explores seductions of Carnival, fashion, ceremonies and street life in Venice. Advance tickets to the event are $10 per person or $12 at the door. Elegant attire is suggested and masks encouraged and a cash bar will be available.

The objective of Mardi Gras Mambo is to incorporate the various styles of Carnival that is celebrated around the world, mainly Latin America, and blend them with New Orleans Mardi Gras traditions, showcasing it in an evening of celebration. It serves an educational purpose while providing enjoyment to the diverse community of Greater New Orleans. The King and Queen are chosen based on their merits and contributions to the New Orleans community as well as the Hispanic community of the area.

King Juan LanFonta
