A Festive Toast to New Orleans and YOU: NOCCA's Home for the Holiday/Lyrica Baroque and more

I hope you are keeping warm. My brother Lorenzo caught a cold because of the sudden changes of temperature. I am blessed that I have a lot of warm clothes to keep me from catching a cold.

Last week was magical for me. The annual, festive, Holiday Round Table Luncheon was, of course, sold out and the guests who attended it were raving about how much fun they had. It was spectacular. As someone said to me, "You know how to throw a party." Indeed I do but I am blessed to have so many friends who always give so generously of their talents and resources. Among them are Republic Beverages who donated a case of Korbel, Sandra Herman who donated all the sparkling wine, my darling friend Dr. James Moises who provided each table with a bottle of his Moises' Pinot Noir, andLucky Players Brands who provided the delicious tasting of Fleur de Lis Vodka and the King Cake Vodka.
I need to also express my deepest gratitude to talented Tracee Dundas who coordinated the lovely fashion show of local designer John Joseph Delgadillo and its beautiful models. The entertainment, coordinated by my musical director Jim Walpole, included talented Anais St. John with pianist Harry Myronne, cabaret singer Suzaune Yee McKamey, burlesque star Trixie Minx, drummer and entertainer Carl Mack, along with fellow entertainers Marshall Harris, Becky Allen, and Claudia Baumgarten.
I was honored with the presence of my guests Hon. Jimmy Coleman, Honorary Consul of Great Britain; Mark Romig, President, and CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation; and Kid Chef Eliana. I thought the Bourbon Orleans Hotel did a fabulous job accommodating the sold-out soiree. To all of you, my sincere Gracias, Merci and Thank you, Love you!
please enjoy the links to the luncheon.

Fortunately, after the luncheon,  I had just enough time get out of my Mrs. Santa outfit, take an hour nap and attend the lovely Sailor Jerry Spice Rum Calendar Release party at the BB's Stage Door Canteen at the National WW II Museum. I enjoyed very much the rum punches and the performance of the beautiful Victory Belleshttps://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153921745170870.1073742761.581200869&type=1&l=f7723d0f05
On Thursday, I was invited to attend the preview of the opening of the fabulous NOLA Christmas Fest at the Morial Convention Center-It was so much fun and it will continue until December 30.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153924494825870.1073742762.581200869&type=1&l=5a1db0c8e3
Darlings along with my friend, talented artist Andrea Mistretta and pianist Jim Walpole, we attended the opening of the NOLA Christmas Fest at the New Orleans Convention Center. My darling friend Diane Lyons invited me to come dressed as Mrs. St. Nick and I felt right at home in the beautiful winter wonderland. NOLA ChristmasFest will be held December 16 – December 30, 2016. It will be open daily 10am-8pm. Christmas Eve hours are 10am-5pm. Christmas Day hours are 2pm-8pm.

On Friday, there were more parties that I could possible attend but along with the talented artist, Andrea Mistretta, we were interviewed by Frank Stansbury on his weekly radio spot with Tim McNally in WGSO 990AM, and we attended a few of the fun soirees.

I have forgotten that the place to be for lunch was at Galatoire's where patrons paid dearly for the opportunity to have a table to benefit charities. I stopped very briefly and saw so many of my friends as I was heading to the Patrick van Hoorebeek's jingle soiree at his bar: Patrick’s Bar Vin. It was so much fun!
Having a great time at Patrick's

While at this party my darling friend, Paul Aucoin, CEO of the South Louisiana Port, invited me to join him at a big Holiday Party for the Port of New Orleans at the Hyatt in the French Quarter.
My evening continued and this time, it was the lovely Port of New Orleans's Christmas Soiree- I am going to miss my darling friend Gary LaGrange who was the CEO of the Port. He is being replaced by Brandy D. Christian. At the party at the lovely Hyatt in the French Quarter, Gary was joined by my darling friend Paul Aucoin, Executive Director of the Port of Louisiana and its former Executive Director/CEO Joel T. Chaisson and many other friends and associates.

This week, I want to take it easy but I am looking forward to attending on Thursday, December 22, the annual NOCCA “Home for the Holidays” Benefit at the House Of Blues. Home for the Holidays is a night of spectacular art and music benefiting the Daniel Price Memorial Fund for Aspiring Artists, which honors the memory of NOCCA alumnus Daniel Price. In keeping with Daniel’s twin passions of art and music, the Fund provides scholarships for outstanding visual arts and music students at NOCCA.

The mission of The NOCCA Institute is to support the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Louisiana’s arts conservatory for high school students. They invest in young artists, their mentors, and the community by providing programs and building partnerships that leverage creativity as a catalyst for educational and cultural vitality.(See calendar below for more details)

Also on the evening of Thursday, December 22, is the annual, free Christmas concert by Lyrica Baroque at St. Mary’s Church in the Ursuline Convent on Chartres Street in the French Quarter. This very talented group of professional chamber musicians will present an hour-long program of selections from Handel’s “Messiah,” sung by the magnificent soprano Sarah Jane McMahon, plus selections from Johann Sebastian Bach and other 17th and 18th-century composers from the Baroque Era.

In addition to Sarah Jane, the ensemble also consists of husband and wife Benjamin and Jaren Atherholt on bassoon and oboe respectively, Daniel Lelchuk on cello and Joseph Meyer on violin. They will be joined by Emmanuel Arakélian, guest artist at St. Louis Cathedral, on harpsichord. Once again, this is a FREE concert and one you won’t want to miss! Chamber music at its absolute best!! M.S. Rau Antiques will host a comprehensive exhibition Napoléon: General. Emperor. Legend. at their New Orleans’ gallery at 630 Royal Street in the French Quarter, New Orleans beginning November 5, 2016, through January 7, 2017. The show, which is open and free to the public, explores the best of Napoléonic art and design that together will reveal the imperial style championed by the Emperor during his reign in France. Brilliant soldier-statesmen and legendary conqueror, Napoléon Bonaparte was one of the Western world’s most powerful leaders, as well as one of its greatest patrons of the arts. Following his meteoric rise to power, a new age of decorative and fine arts was born that validated his reign. “Napoléon is one of the most compelling figures in all of Western history,” states Bill Rau, the President and owner of M.S. Rau Antiques. “During his short time in power, he made an indelible impact not only in the political arena but also in the arts and design. Some of our greatest treasures and finest masterpieces date to the Napoleonic age, all thanks to Napoleon and his quest for glory.” Having gained his position following the tumultuous era of the Revolution, the Emperor commissioned artists, designers, and architects as a way to promote and legitimize his reign. The exhibition reveals how Napoléon effectively used art and design to cultivate an image of power. From a monumental masterwork of Napoléon before the Battle of Moscow by Joseph Franque and an original bronze death mask of Napoléon to one-of-a-kind Empire furniture and décor, the exhibition offers an intriguing glimpse into the intimate life and ultimate legacy of the soldier, statesman, and ruler.

Celebrate a time-honored Louisiana tradition - the lighting of the bonfires on the banks of the Mississippi!  The Bonfire Adventure Tour includes round-trip narrated motor coach transportation and  a guided tour of San Francisco Plantation, built in 1855 and reported to be the most opulent plantation house in North America. It is a galleried house of the Creole open suite style, nestled under centuries old Live Oaks and contains one of the finest antique collections in the country. This house inspired the novel "Steamboat Gothic" written by Frances Parkinson Keyes. A traditional Christmas dinner will be served on the property.
A police escort will then accompany our "sleigh of coaches" to view the bonfires that light the way for Papa Noel (our Cajun Santa Claus) to bayou country. For many years this Cajun Community has built mammoth wooden structures such as cabins, tepees, & riverboats along the Mississippi River levee. Come see the "faux de joie (fires of joy)!
