A Toast to New Orleans: Bastille's Day Festivities- Round Table Luncheon on July 20 and more‏

Darlings,

Another fabulous week has gone in our beloved New Orleans. Every week, I keep saying "I need to save my energy for next week" but, as you know the Big Easy keeps us pretty busy with so many wonderful fun events.

As predicted, I started my social week by attending a lovely reception at the Mexican Consulate in honor of the newly appointed Consul General, Sr. Carlos Ponce. I returned the next day to the Mexican Consulate Gallery to attend the opening of the photographic art exhibit, “Los Demonios de mi Tierra” by Mauricio Silerio.

That night I attended the preview of the fabulous production of Thoroughly Modern Millie at Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre. It was packed and I enjoyed tremendously.
Every year I look forward to all the festivities associated with San Fermin en Nueva Orleans (Running of the Bulls) from July 8-10, which is set to coincide every year with the world-famous Encierro (Running of the Bulls) at the San Fermin Festival in Pamplona, Spain. But the New Orleans version of the event is uniquely its own.
One big difference is that our bulls are none other than the Big Easy Rollergirls and participants from other roller derby leagues across the country. And the runners – thousands of them! – are in no danger of being gored by real, sharp-horned, 800-pound bulls. Instead, the slowest runners run the “risk” of being whacked by our Rollergirls with soft-core foam baseball bats. In fact, some of the runners enjoy it so much they willingly submit to being whacked multiple times!
The festivities started on Thursday with a delicious St. Fermin Spanish Wine Dinner at the Bourbon Orleans. It reminded me of the time when I used to live in Ibiza, Spain.
Darlings, as in the past, the Running of the Bulls on Poydras Street was so much fun. Walther Vera and I were there to film a segment of his bilingual program, "El Mirador," to be aired today, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on Cox TV-1004.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153515156700870.1073742684.581200869&type=1&l=b8fea96a5d

I took it easy on Friday, since I know that after working at Casell-Bergen Gallery, I needed to glamorize myself to attend, the always-entertaining and delicious Casa Argentina's Tango and Folklore at the JW Marriott . I love the tango and this year, it was superb. I saw so many friends enjoying the elegant and fabulous soiree celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Argentina. See more about it here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153517044125870.1073742685.581200869&type=1&l=daa13fe0e2
Darlings, this week we are going to be celebrating the annual festivities for Bastille Day. Many of the Bastille Day events will be held at the New Orleans Museum of Art on Thursday and Friday, July 14-15. Among the entertainers scheduled at NOMA for Friday the 15th is my darling friend and talented pianist/vocalist, Giselle Bonfaire, who will be performing songs in French and English that afternoon from 4-6 p.m. Including some of the all-time classics of the great Edith Piaf. Also performing that day will be the Lost Bayou Ramblers. For more details go tohttp://bastilledaynola.com/bastilledaynola/2016_bastille_day_fete/.
As part of the  Bastille Day Fete Nola activities, the annual wreath laying by The Council of French Societies at New Place de France (the Joan of Arc statue) will be held in the heart of the French Market District, Decatur Street at St. Philip Street. Join French organizations, the Consulate General of France in New Orleans and other local dignitaries for the annual wreath-laying on Bastille Day, July 14, at 10:00 a.m. Complimentary champagne and cupcakes will be offered after speeches in French and English and the public singing of the French National Anthem, “La Marseillaise.”

On Sunday, July 17 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. is the Annual French Market Bartender and Waiters Race. It begins at 4:00 p.m. at the corner of Barracks Street and French Market Place and ends near the Farmers Market Stage (see calendar below for more details).

Darlings, I am looking forward to hosting my annual Round Table Luncheon Saluting Tales of the Cocktail on Wednesday, July 20 at noon at Hotel Mazerin. The deadline for reservations is this Friday, July 15 since there will be so many cocktail tastings and a gourmet dinner prepared by Chef Agnes Bellet at La Louisiane.
As in the past, it will be co-hosted by “Mr. and Mrs. Cocktail,” the one and only Ann Tuennerman, founder of Tales of the Cocktail, and her husband Paul G. Tuennerman. I have prepared a program that will include a Rum Tasting by Alexandre Gabriel, producer of fine spirits and owner of Maison Ferrand which is a highly regarded company that distributes its fine spirits in more than 40 countries, in some of the world’s most prestigious outlets.
We also will have a tasting of gin by the creator of Dorothy Parker Gin, Allen Katz of New York Distilling Company. The entertainment will go along with the theme and will be performed by talented Claudia Baumgarten who will talk about Dorothy Parker and her life during Prohibition. She will entertain us with songs from her new set of SONGS of FOOD & LOVE, and be accompanied on the piano by Jim Walpole.

As in the past, Champagne and wines will be flowing for the delicious three-course luncheon prepared by Chef Bellet. The price has been set at $55 all-inclusive. Reservations are needed by July 15 and are being handled by EventBrite. The High Priestess of Dark Alley will play Le Petit Théâtre du Vieux Carré from July 7 - 24, 2016. The contemporary 7th Ward-set drama is written and directed by Jackie Alexander, author of last season's Brothers From The Bottom. In the play, two sisters- one robbed of her sexuality, the other defined by it- do battle with their domineering mother over the men they love. The High Priestess of
Dark Alley is the story of three Creole women, Celeste Thibodaux and her two daughters, Claire and Janee Charbonnet. Trapped by the conventions of intra-racial divisions within the African American community, the sisters are pitted against their mother regarding issues of color, class, sexuality and generational differences.
