It seems like last week was just a breeze after experiencing the social tsunami of the week before.
Some of the events that I was looking forward to attending such as the piano recital by Dr. Quinn Peeper, Michael Harold and Albinas Prizgintas as part of the Bishop Perry Center series of free public concerts for Lent at St. Mary Church were postponed due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 22 at 6 p.m. at St. Mary Church
My social week started on Tuesday, when I joined over 600 women to attend the annual Women's Guild of the New Orleans Opera Association’s Mad Hatter’s Luncheon 2016 at the Hilton Riverside. The event featured, as in the past, a seated luncheon, a fashion show presented by Saks Fifth Avenue, and the always popular Hat Contest. I am glad I was not a judge because the hats and fascinators were beautiful.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153255358610870.1073742622.581200869&type=1&l=da385fd58d
On Wednesday, I had a great time at the New Orleans Grand Opening of the B.B. King's Blues Club at 1104 Decatur St. (formerly Margaritaville) in the French Quarter.  The opening festivities included the following: The Blessing at St. Louis Cathedral of B.B. King's famous guitar, “Lucille,” by Deacon Guidry. Immediately following the blessing, musicians and dignitaries second lined to the club from the Cathedral. A delicious luncheon followed with performance by B.B. King All-Star Band.

That evening, I had been invited to attend the fundraiser for my darling friend Seth Bloom, President of the New Orleans School Board at the spectacular home of Gary Solomon Jr. The spectacular space was designed by Bockman Forbes Design  It was very well attended and saw many of my friends. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153258314685870.1073742623.581200869&type=1&l=b02ea6f858

I was also invited to the Media Night of the Broadway Across America's production of “Book of Mormon” but unfortunately I had to miss it because I developed a tooth infection that required a visit to the dentist and the required dosage of antibiotics.
So my week was kind of shot but on Sunday, I did not missed the fabulous Cuban Soiree. The Board of Directors of the New Orleans Ballet Association and The Ballet Resource and Volunteer Organization (BRAVO) celebrated with the Artists of Cuba’s Malpaso Dance Company at an incredible festive soirée at Gallier Hall. Decadent mojitos- Cuban cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvres followed by dinner and dancing featuring traditional cuisine By Churros Café & Mulate’s. Music by Julio & Cesar and their band made it a very memorable evening.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153269860590870.1073742624.581200869&type=1&l=48c5ca125f

NICKEL A DANCE is a free series of Sunday afternoon jazz concerts each spring and fall, that is a hit with children, families, seniors, and the general dancing public that don’t tend to go to night clubs.  It attracts a diverse group of fans that meet on Frenchmen Street to celebrate jazz as America’s original dance music while listening to the best of today’s classic jazz bands.

March 20th-New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra
An American revival orchestra, the New Leviathan Oriental Fox Trot Orchestra pays particular attention to the music of New Orleans, La., where it is based.  In addition to the well known compositions of jazz and ragtime composers like Jelly Roll Morton, Fletcher Henderson, and Eubie Blake, the orchestra's repertoire includes the work of less well remembered New Orleans Tin Pan Alley composers such as Larry Buck, Joe Verges, Paul Sarebresole and Nick Clesi.
Taking its name from the SSLeviathan, a transatlantic ocean liner with a well regarded dance band at the start of the 1920's, the orchestra was founded in 1972. Their first performance was at Tulane University.  The orchestra has appeared throughout the United States and Europe.  Recordings were featured in the soundtracks of Woody Allen's 1994 film, "Bullets over Broadway" and "Storyville" (1992).  New Leviathan performs frequently and makes a fondly anticipated yearly appearance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.  The exact personnel of the orchestra varies, but it frequently features 18 or more pieces.  The music director is Larry Jones and the managing director is John Craft.
