A Toast to You and 2016- Jeanne de Arc, Phunny Phorty Phellow Bal Masque- Round Table Luncheon

Happy 2016! May it be peaceful, healthy, prosperous and happy and you will have the time to enjoy it.
Prior to New Year’s, Mother Nature seemed to have forgotten that it was winter, so we were blessed with glorious autumn weather. Winter is finally here but, as the great English poet Percy Shelley said, “O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?”
I always said that there is no place like home for the holidays and it so true. I love the New Year's celebrations and so, too, New Orleans!
I am still recuperating from New Year's Eve celebrations. I started my night at my former apartment at the Pontalba, now rented by my darling friend, attorney and artist, Stephen Rue, and then ended my night on top of the Jax Brewery where lots of champagne or cava was waiting for the revelers courtesy of Earl and Michelle Weber.
On New Year's Day, I enjoyed tremendously going to the lovely open house of Elizabeth and Bryant York at their lovely home on Nashville Street. The food, libations and the company were awesome and made the afternoon of New Year's Day to be a very memorable one.

On Sunday, we were overjoyed when our beloved Saints beat the rival Atlanta Falcons, so that was a very nice way to end the season for them.
On a sad note, I learned that one of my dear old friends, Jezelle Hebert, passed away just before Christmas. I knew Jezelle when I was one of the board members of the French Market Corporation, and later when she became the Lazarus Development Director. She was a great person will be missed dearly. She is in the middle of this picture, surrounded by her great friends Louis Costa, her former boss, and his wife, Mary Len Costa.

This week is going to be a very busy one for me.

On Tuesday, January 5, at 6 p.m. at the Royal Sonesta Grand Ballroom, attendees representing businesses around the French Quarter will gather at the French Quarter Business Association’s Installation and Awards Dinner at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Among the confirmed attendees are Colonel Mike Edmonson of the Louisiana State Police, Joseph Zolfo, Producer of NCIS New Orleans, and various City Councilmembers.
Also in attendance will be FQBA President Robert Watters and Vice Presidents Timothy Spratt and Drew Bevolo. Some businesses represented will be Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights, Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts, First Bank & Trust, French Quarter Festivals, Inc., Kirkendoll Management, NCIS New Orleans, Patio Planters, RCI Entertainment, Inc., Southern Insurance Agency, and Valentino Hotels. The association has been a long-standing recognized group for its dedication to enhancing the business climate in the French Quarter.

As you know, Carnival celebration starts on Jan. 6, the Twelfth Night (Feast of Epiphany) when several parades will kick off the Carnival season. My darling friends Sandra Savoye Dartus Horwitz as Queen Yolande of Aragon:and Eric Belin as King Charles VII: are this year monarchs.
8th Annual Joan of Arc Parade takes place WEDNESDAY January 6, 2016, 7 p.m.The Krewe of St. Joan of Arc holds its annual walking parade in the French Quarter on January 6, which is also the official start of Mardi Gras season. Coincidentally, that is birthday of Joan of Arc, the patron saint of France, the nation whose settlers founded New Orleans in the early 1700s.
Joan of Arc parade starts at Decatur and Toulouse by the Jax Brewery shops, heads down Decatur, turns right on Conti, pause at the corner of Conti and Chartres to toast royalty, heads east on Chartres, pause at the Saint Louis Cathedral for sword blessing, continues down Chartres, turns right onto Ursulines, turns right onto Decatur, passes Joan of Arc statue, ends at Washington Artillery Park for king cake and crowning ceremony.

Proceeds from the Bal Masque will benefit the Link Stryjewski Foundation which was created to address the persistent cycle of violence and poverty, as well as the lack of quality education and job training opportunities available to young people in New Orleans. The Foundation will provide support to organizations that directly work to end the cycle of violence and poverty that effect the lives of children. This year's beneficiaries are Kingsley House and Youth Empowerment Project (YEP).

The mission of Kingsley House is to educate children, strengthen families and build community. Kingsley House is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Southeast Louisiana by collaboratively working with others to build a comprehensive system of services and resources that meet the needs of our recovering community. We help Kingsley House in many ways including being a founding chef participant in Boudin and Beer. Boudin and Beer is a new outdoor charity food and music celebration in which a portion of proceeds goes to Kingsley House.

YEP was founded in 2004 in order to assist young people returning to New Orleans from juvenile correctional facilities. Since its inception, YEP has earned local, statewide, and national recognition for being at the cutting edge of progressive programs for at-risk youth. YEP has a proven track record of effectively engaging these young people and helping them develop and work toward their educational, vocational and personal goals.
