A Toast to NO 7-14 to 20: Bastille Day/ Spirited Round Table Luncheon/ Tales of the Cocktail

Darlings, Happy Bastille's Day

I hope you have been enjoying the Bastille Day's annual celebration that began on July 11 and culminate today.

I had a busy cultural week that started by attending the dress rehearsal of Tulane Summer Lyric’s production of "Once Upon a Mattress. Directed by talented Ricky Graham, the cast and the play were both awesome.

As in the past I attended the annual Bastille Day's Krewe of Cork Luncheon at the Hotel Mazarin with Chef Agnes Bellet at its helm. The food and French wines were delicious, as well as the camaraderie of the krewe members, all of which made it to be a very memorable afternoon!https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152835451820870.1073742485.581200869&type=1&l=d2963305d7

On Saturday, I was  honored to once again be a judge for the 4th annual “Conours de chien” or French Dog Costume Contest at Bastille Day Fete” presented by the Alliance Française, the French American Chamber of Commerce and the French Consulate, in partnership with the Louisiana SPCA. The other judges were Nell Nolan, Jackie Shreves and Michael Harold. Mark C. Romig was the Master of Ceremonies.

On Saturday evening, I enjoyed Tulane's New Orleans Shakespeare Festival production of “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde. It is directed by Jessica Podewell at Tulane’s Lupin Theater, and will run until  June 25. Go see it if you get a chance. It’s funny!

On Sunday, I enjoyed attending the annual French Market Bartender & Waiters Race 2015, part of Bastille Day NOLA.

This week, I am looking forward to attending one of the final events of “Bastille Day NOLA” when the French Market will host the Council of French Societies of Greater New Orleans, Inc., celebration of Bastille Day, Tuesday, July 14 at 10 a.m. at the Joan of Arc statue at 1000 Decatur Street, New Place de France (at St. Philip Street).  The program will culminate with a public singing of the French national anthem, “La Marseillaise,” led by New Orleans Opera and Opera Creole singers Giovanna Joseph and her daughter, Aria Mason.

That evening I have been invited to the official Bastille Day Celebration hosted by the Honorable Consul General of France in New Orleans, Gregor Trumel at Antoine's.

Tuesday night, July 14 is the last night you will be able to catch gifted pianist, vocalist and all-around showman Philip Melancon in his musical tribute to legendary French singer Charles Aznavour at Mid City Theatre. Phil is joined onstage by his wife, Heidi Melancon andDr. Hector Ventura, who will sing along with him. The show starts at 8:00 p.m.

The highlight of my week will be hosting on Wednesday, July 15, my annual Spirited Round Table Luncheon in honor of Tales of the Cocktail. Darlings, since I am taking reservations, I need to give a count of how many people are coming to lunch. Last month I told Antoine's that it was going to be 80 and ended up with 110. So please - email me ASAP today to give a total count.

I’ve got great news! Round Table Luncheon guests will be able to join the Sandeman Stroll immediately after the luncheon. George Sandeman will be attending the luncheon and will lead the Stroll over to the Hotel Monteleone where the Tales of the Cocktail festivities will begin.
