Darlings,

Judging by the first week of the 2015 Mardi Gras Season, it is going to be a busy one!

The Carnival Season officially started on Twelfth Night, or the Feast of the Epiphany, on Jan. 6 and will culminate on Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras Day) Feb. 17.

On January 6, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, joined by city officials and representatives from Carnival organizations at Mardi Gras World, welcomed the start of the 2015 Carnival Season during "Kings Day."  The event included a celebratory cutting of king cake. Rex and Zulu's Royalty were introduced and the original work and artists for the Rex Proclamation and the Zulu poster which were reproduced as limited edition posters were offered for sale to their membership.

This year,  Mother Nature provided glorious weather to enjoy the fabulous Jeanne D' Arc Parade. with my darlings friends as  Royalty King Patrick van Hoorebeek and Queen Simone Bruni Crouere. The parade was beautiful and I am delighted to see it has grown tremendously.

After viewing  the Jeanne D' Arc Parade I stopped at the historic Bourbon Orleans Hotel, where as an official event of the Battle of New Orleans Bicentennial Commission, this year’s "Pakenham Final Supper" was held. I loved seeing so many friends dressed in period costumes, marking 200 years since the end of the War of 1812.

On Thursday, my darling friend Dean Shapiro invited me to accompany him to the multi-Grammy Award-winning American banjo master Bela Fleck’s performance with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. It was awesome, as Maestro Carlos Miguel Prieto conducted the pieces that were Fleck’s original compositions for banjo and full orchestra, as well as with just strings. The theater was packed and Bela did encore presentations that were take-offs on the “Beverly Hillbillies” theme song. The audience recognized the melody and cheered him on. BRAVO!

The cold weather and work prevented me from seeing the reenactment of the Battle of New Orleans at the Chalmette Battlefield, but I did not miss seeing the very informative WYES-TV’s latest documentary commemorating the 200 year anniversary of the American victory. “The Battle of New Orleans: A Meaningful Victory” repeats Sunday, January 18 at noon and Monday, January 19 at 9:00 p.m.

On Friday, January 9, I put on my period empire dress costume and my brunette wig to attend the fabulous Louisiana Museum Foundation's Battle of New Orleans Bicentennial Victory Ball Celebration. It was an extraordinary night that I thoroughly enjoyed. Hopefully my photos will catch the memorable evening at the historic Cabildo.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152474626085870.1073742397.581200869&type=1&l=a1ed5315cd

The same night, the colorful Pussyfooter's   Blushing Ball at the Generations Hall brought me back to my century and was indeed blushing. What a fun night.

The program opens with Liszt's influential symphonic poem, “Les Préludes” and closes with a piece packed with flashy orchestral fireworks: Lutoslawski's “Concerto for Orchestra.”
