Good evening my darling family and friends. It is Monday, November 21 and the Saints gave us the best Thanksgiving present by winning 27 vs. 20 against the Rams. Lorenzo & I were the guests of Dr. Juan & Ana Ester Gershanik at their suite in the 50-yard line.
“When you start to do the things that you truly love, it wouldn’t matter whether it’s Monday or Friday; you would be so excited to wake up each morning to work on your passions.” —Edmond Embiaka😘

Magical is the word to describe the Founder Ball IV “Creole New Orleans, Honey! The Art of Andrew LaMar Hopkins “as we stepped back in time at the historic Cabildo! Guests met my darling longtime friend Andrew LaMar Hopkins and were amongst the first to view the incredible exhibit featuring more than 75 of his works. Rarely seen objects from the Louisiana State Museum’s collections were also on view to bring history to life.
The Louisiana State Museum and the Louisiana Museum Foundation are honored to present Andrew LaMar Hopkins’ first solo museum exhibition and the first solo show in the Cabildo of a living African American artist. A Mobile native and longtime New Orleans resident, Hopkins is a self-taught artist who brings nineteenth-century New Orleans Creole culture to life with his stunningly detailed and colorful paintings. An antiquarian, collector, and southern history enthusiast, Hopkins draws inspiration from his Creole heritage and in-depth knowledge of antiques, evident in his elegantly painted scenes that showcase the period’s lavish architecture and interior styles.

Caroling in Jackson Square Returns to the French Quarter December 18
A New Orleans Holiday Tradition since 1946, preceded by a Holiday Home Tour

Patio Planters of the Vieux Carre is pleased to present the beloved Caroling in Jackson Square tradition to visitors and locals alike on Sunday, December 18, from 7-8 pm. The free community sing-along gathers thousands of people for a festive hour of holiday merriment, with carols led by local dignitaries and clergy.  Gates open at 6:30 pm with Patio Planters volunteers stationed there to distribute complimentary song books and candles to participants in the non-denominational community celebration.

Mark Romig, senior vice-president and chief marketing officer for New Orleans and Company, will return as master of ceremonies, along with local favorites Harry Mayronne, Chris Wecklein and Amy Alvarez leading carols.

Patio Planters President Joey DiFatta cites 2022 Caroling in Jackson Square as a momentous occasion. “Our nonprofit organization has sponsored the event as our gift to the community since 1946, relying on fundraisers like our Holiday Home Tour to generate revenue needed to cover multiple expenses involved in producing the event,” said DiFatta. “There’s nothing more rewarding than looking out across Jackson Square and seeing the joy and camaraderie that this event brings to visitors and locals alike. Caroling in Jackson Square truly represents the spirit of the season,” added DiFatta.
Caroling in Jackson Square will be live streamed on www.nola.com and www.patioplanters.net where songbooks may be downloaded. The event will also be available for viewing after December 18 on WLAE via Cox Ch. 1014, Spectrum Ch. 711, Satellite Ch. 32, AT&T U-Verse Ch. 1032, and Over the Air Ch. 32.1.  This year’s event will receive marketing support from Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Office of Tourism.

Prior to the annual Caroling in Jackson Square, Patio Planters offers a French Quarter Holiday Home Tour featuring five private residences with varying architectural styles and home furnishings, festively decorated for the season.  The self-guided walking tour takes place from 12 noon until 4 pm, allowing plenty of time to enjoy Réveillon dining or Holiday cocktails prior to Caroling.

Tickets to the tour, which supports the annual Caroling in Jackson Square, are $30 each if preordered online at  www.patioplanters.net and $35 the day of the event.  Children 12 and under are free.  A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase from 12noon-3:00 pm the day of under the alcove of the Louisiana State Museum Cabildo. This annual event often sells out in advance. Advance online ticket purchases are your best (and only) way to guarantee a ticket.

About Caroling in Jackson Square:  Caroling in Jackson Square was created in 1946 by members of Patio Planters of the Vieux Carre, a volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation and beautification of the French Quarter.  Throughout the year, the nonprofit organization hosts the Secret Garden Tour, a White Elephant Auction, and the Holiday Home Tour to raise funds to pay for police and barricades, sound and musicians, candles and song books, Jackson Square clean-up and the myriad of increasing costs necessary to present the annual gift of Caroling in Jackson Square to the City of New Orleans.
