A Toast to New Orleans March 10-18: Heels for Hope Fashion Show/THNOC’s LPO concert/LPO's Opus Ball/UNCF Masked Ball/ Round Table Luncheon
Darlings, Happy Spring!
I hope this blog will find you safe and away from the dreaded Corona Virus! I have been praying for all the people infected by the pandemic virus. Fortunately for us, it was not until yesterday that we had a infected case and let’s pray that it has been contained!

Since my return from Pensacola, I have been busy attending quite a few fun loving soirees.
Temple Sinai's 150th Birthday Celebration
I loved accompanying my darling friend and editor Dean Shapiro to the Temple Sinai's 150th Birthday Celebration.
Temple Sinai is the New Orleans’ First Reform Congregation – Founded in 1870. celebrated its 150th birthday with a spectacular “Roaring Twenties” extravaganza. The evening feature 1920s themed music by Meryl Zimmerman, a delicious gourmet sit down dinner and a luxurious auction. The evening also included a glamorous Patron Party featuring show-tunes in a neighboring Uptown mansion. I enjoyed the celebration and meeting the new Rabbi Daniel M. Sherman and Cantor Joel Colman. A Toast to another 150 years or more.

Jersey Boys

Album Jersey Boys Live Tour 2020 (8 photos)

“O What a Night!” Indeed it was a very memorable night at the always fun-loving “Jersey Boys” at the Saenger Theatre. I have seen this fabulous show many times and I even shook hands with Frankie Valli a few years ago but their performances always bring me memories of my summers in the Catskill Mountains in New York State.
They were just four guys from Jersey, until they sang their very first note. They had a sound nobody had ever heard… and the radio just couldn’t get enough of. But while their harmonies were perfect on stage, off stage it was a very different story -- a story that has made them an international sensation all over again.
Unfortunately for those who might have missed it, “Jersey Boys” only ran for three nights over this past weekend as a late arrival in the Hancock Whitney Broadway in New Orleans Series. This was the third time it has come to New Orleans in the past six or seven years and hopefully it will come back again soon.

As in the past, the annual Patron Party of the French Quarter Festival Gala at the Fillmore was an unforgettable VIP experience.
French Quarter Fest kicked off the 2020 festival season on Friday, March 6 with its annual gala fundraiser at New Orleans’ state-of-the-art entertainment venue, The Fillmore New Orleans. The 2020 French Quarter Festival is scheduled for April 16-10, 2020.
Evan Christopher and David Torkanowsky performed at the 7 p.m. patron party that preceded the gala. Gala guests experienced a night with New Orleans’ bilingual pop band, Sweet Crude, and Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band. Sweet Crude’s unique style of French and English lyrics was punctuated with pop-rock tunes from the six-piece band, and no band exemplifies the essence and soul of New Orleans like Rebirth Brass Band. The gala featured a full open bar, dinner, and a silent auction. The night’s entertainment was a prelude to the full suite of Louisiana music at the festival.
2020 honorees included musician Walter “Wolfman” Washington, OffBeat Magazine publisher Jan Ramsey, and Vance Vaucresson of Vaucresson’s Sausage. French Quarter Festivals, Inc. will also honor the late Earl Bernhardt and Tropical Isle for years of support and commitment to the French Quarter community.

The gala serves as a fundraiser for the non-profit French Quarter Festivals, Inc. and provides fans with a direct way to support the organization

German music was well established in Louisiana during the early 19th century. Audiences could enjoy the German repertoire at a wide variety of theaters such as the famed Orleans Theater and venues focusing exclusively on German productions, like the National Theater.   With the pronounced rise in German immigration in the 1840s, numerous singing societies were formed to promote the love of the German vocal tradition. The strength of the local singing societies was so strong that in 1890 New Orleans hosted the 26 the Sängerfest of the North American Singers’ Union, which featured more than 2,000 performers.
The famed Leipzig Conservatory had a particularly strong impact on American music. Composer Scott Joplin benefited from instruction by graduates of the conservatory. In New Orleans, German music publishers, such as Grunewald and Werlein, dominated the industry.
Under the direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto, the LPO will perform a carefully curated program highlighting the impact of the German tradition in New Orleans musical history.
This program is sponsored by the Nancy F. Link Foundation with additional support provided by The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and Valentino Hotels.

Those unable to attend are invited to stream the broadcast live on LPOmusic.com and WLAE.com, or listen on WWNO 89.9 FM and Classical 104.9 FM in the New Orleans area, KTLN 90.5 FM in the Thibodaux-Houma area, and WWNO.org.

Important Tips on the Coronavirus- SPREAD THE WORD - PLEASE SHARE.
KEEP CALM......The Media tends to constantly create "chaos."
1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold
2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.
7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.
8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.
10. Can't emphasize enough - drink plenty of water !
THE SYMPTOMS
1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days
2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.
3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning.
It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.
