A Toast to New Orleans June 4-11: Opening of Grand Illusions/ Creole Tomato Festival Magnolia Ball/ Pride Parade and more...

Darlings,

I have been devastated with the news that our beloved Chef Leah Chase, the “Queen of the Creole Cuisine,” has passed away. She will leave a big place to fill in our culinary artist world. I adore her and her lovely family. Funeral arrangements are as follow:
The family of Mrs. Leah Chase will have a PUBLIC VIEWING on Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 10 AM to 4:30 PM at Xavier University Convocation Center, 7910 Stroelitz Street, New Orleans. A celebratory program will be held at 6 PM. All are invited to attend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 12 Noon at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1923 St. Philip Street, New Orleans. Visitation will be from 8 AM to 10:30 AM. The Rosary will begin immediately following visitation.
*SEATING AT THE CHURCH IS LIMITED.

My last photo with our beloved Chef Leah Chase was at the UNCF 2019 Mayor's Masked Ball on March 16, 2019 .
😢 Chef Leah always loved to check me out and complimented my outfit with that beautiful smile of hers. I will miss her so much. She such an inspiration and source of strength- Cooking in Heaven just got better! May her Soul RIP! 🙏💞 .

Priscilla Lawrence announces plan to retire as THNOC President/CEO

Priscilla Lawrence, longtime president/chief executive officer of The Historic New Orleans Collection, has announced she will retire effective June 30, 2019.

Lawrence joined THNOC in 1980 and assumed the president/CEO position in 2000. Reflecting on her years with the organization, she said "My time at The Historic New Orleans Collection has been so much more than a job. It has been a central part of my life -- even my identity -- for nearly 40 years. I treasure every one of those years, especially the relationships forged and what we have accomplished together."

Under her leadership, THNOC achieved many milestones and grew exponentially. She led the institution through multiple building expansions and her announcement comes weeks after the organization's largest project, the restoration and renovation of the Seignouret-Brulatour Building, opened to the public.

This past  week was a very busy one for me and I enjoyed every soiree that I attended and covered:

Album Joan Mitchell Foundation's Open Studios (24 photos)
Joan Mitchell Foundation's Open Studios
I am so ever grateful to my darling friend Nathan Davila, Operations Manager of the Mitchell Center, for introducing me and inviting me to the dinner and an Open Studio. It was mind- blowing to see such an awesome facility in Bayou Road. We are so lucky!

The Joan Mitchell Center is a program of the Joan Mitchell Foundation, which celebrates the life of abstract artist Joan Mitchell by expanding awareness of her pioneering work and fulfilling her wish to support and provide opportunities for visual artists. Complementing the Foundation's grant programs, the Joan Mitchell Center was developed to host artist residencies, providing working and living space on a two-acre campus in the historic and culturally diverse city of New Orleans. In addition to the Artist-in-Residence Program, which welcomes local, national and international artists, the Center produces public programming for the broader community of New Orleans, and serves as an incubator, conduit and resource for partnerships in the arts.

I had such a great time at my longtime friend and former customer of Bergen galleries Judge Paul Sens’ fundraiser at the lovely Magnolia Mansion. I always love to see longtime friends and there were many there.

Album National Bubbly Day 2019 6 photos and a video
Darlings of course, I will not let the National Bubbly Day goes by without inviting my visiting designer friends from London and Miami to join me for a toast of bubbly at the exquisite Brennan's Bar and courtyard.

OMG what a fun night! I wanted my darling friends from London to experience an artsy evening in the Warehouse District and what could be more fitting that that the unveiling of murals by the Art Council. Along with Dennis Pearse, General Manager of the upcoming Hard Rock Hotel, we visited beautiful art openings along Julia Street and saw the exquisite mural at the side of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

We concluded our visit at the always fun and delicious Tommy's Cuisine on Tchoupitoulas Street.

On Saturday, June 1, five new murals were unveiled throughout the Arts District New Orleans as part of Unframed presented by The Helis Foundation, a project of the Arts Council New Orleans. Unframed presented by The Helis Foundation is the first multi-mural exhibition of large scale artwork in Downtown New Orleans.

Album NKFL's Let's Party Like It's 1969  (23 photos)

The National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana (NKFL) is celebrating its 50th anniversary and invited guests to "Party Like It's 1969" on Sunday, June 2, at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. It was a great and delicious fundraiser. The party began at 11:00 am when we were transported to the 1960s with retro games, groovy music, fabulous food and throwback cocktails. It was indeed a very 1969's party!

I am still salivating the delicious paella served at the Annual Paella Party cooked by Chef Harold Angola at Juanita's. It was hosted by Sociedad Española at Juanita Pradel’s home which is now owned by her granddaughter and as always the camaraderie was priceless!
Venezuela-born Chef Harold is now serving his delicious cuisine at his place: AVILA GRILL at 817 St. Louis Street in the French Quarter. Avila Grill is a Venezuelan cafe that fuses the flavors of contemporary Latin American and New Orleans cuisines.

Enjoy your week
