A Toast to New Orleans April 10-18: Best Chefs of La/ Heels for Hope/ French Quarter Festival and much more......

Darlings,

I hope you are enjoying our cool spring weather. Last week, I was going from party to party like a butterfly, but unfortunately there were too many parties to attend. I had to stop to rest so I could enjoy all the upcoming fun events.

I started my social week last week by attending the fabulous free performance by talented guitarists Julio & Cesar Band at New Orleans Botanical Garden's “Evenings with Enrique.” Not only did I get to see the performance of master guitarists Julio, Cesar and Andrew Guillermo Herrera, but I also got to stroll the beautiful Enrique Alfarez Sculpture Garden as well as the Botanical Garden. I was in heaven since I love seeing the exquisite orchids and roses.
This is all free, thanks to the Helis Foundation, so please don't miss out on Wednesdays. The extended hours are until 8 p.m.

Dedication of large saxophone presented by Belgium to New Orleans

Mother Nature provided glorious weather for the delegation from the Kingdom of Belgium who gifted New Orleans, in celebration of the City's Tricentennial, a large sculpture of a saxophone, invented in the 1840s by Belgian inventor and musician Adolphe Sax. This special saxophone was painted by Dimitri Perpete and the double-sided painting on the saxophone commemorates the musical connection between the instrument's birthplace and the world's capital of jazz.
The sculpture was at a press conference followed by a performance by Belgian saxophonist, Steve Houben, and New Orleans' own Leroy Jones Quartet.

A lovely reception at the Royal Sonesta Hotel followed the dedication !https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155153105365870.1073743133.581200869&type=1&l=8961cd52ae

One of the events that I loved attending was  the opening of the superb “Herman Leonard: Documenting the Giants of Jazz” exhibit at the New Orleans Jazz Museum in the Old U.S. Mint.

Herman Leonard: Documenting the Giants of Jazz
Legendary jazz musician Kid Jordan with Greg Lambousy, Director of Jazz Museum and his son Tristan!
I’ve always loved Herman Leonard's jazz photographs and I had the opportunity of cultivating his friendship when he lived in New Orleans. Some of his original photos were among my inventory when I had my art gallery on Royal Street.

The New Orleans Jazz Museum, in conjunction with Herman Leonard Photography, LLC and the GRAMMY Museum L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, debuted the exhibition, showcasing some of the prolific photographer’s most iconic photos. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155153831670870.1073743134.581200869&type=1&l=1a0a1eea84

Every April, I look forward to attending 2018 Krewe of Cork Luncheon at Emeril's

I think the highlight of my week was attending the spectacular wedding of Jessica Elizabeth and Joseph Albert Luchenta
Jessica Elizabeth and Joseph Albert Luchenta with Jacquee Carvin at Brennan's
Darlings, I felt blessed to be invited by my darling friend, Jacquee Carvin, to the wedding of her beautiful daughter, Jessica Elizabeth Carvin, to handsomeJoseph Albert Luchenta at the historic St. Patrick's Church. It was just lovely and a delicious and fun reception followed at Brennan's on Royal Street. Congratulations to the newlyweds! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155158450635870.1073743136.581200869&type=1&l=3a17eb309d

Bridge House / Grace House's Cochon Cotillion XXII

Bridge House / Grace House hosted the Cochon Cotillion XXII, presented by the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust & Goldring Family Foundation. Cochon Cotillion is a spoof on the traditional Mardi Gras ball. Equipped with swine-inspired outfits and floats, King Bill Mimeles, and my darling friend, Queen Betsie Gambel, served as this year's monarchs.
Cochon Cotillion offered attendees a silent auction, live music from ELS and Mike Morris, an open bar, and food from over 40 of New Orleans' best restaurants.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155158546065870.1073743138.581200869&type=1&l=1c873415d0

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago
MB,  Olympic Track and Field Theron Lewis, Jenny Hamilton, CEO of New Orleans Ballet and actor Gee Tucker

I enjoyed very much the fabulous New Orleans Ballet Association's presentation of the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago ensemble at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. The special 40th anniversary performance included the revival of a jazzy swing classic! I loved it and attended, during intermission, a lovely reception. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10155158528325870.1073743137.581200869&type=1&l=0c84424080

The Club of New Orleans's weekly luncheon featured  Dr. John W. Nicklow, President of UNO. I enjoyed so much listening to him and selling all my long-time friends.

Darlings, it is April which means that we will be enjoying beautiful spring weather as well as fabulous festivals and fundraisers. Enjoy them!

Rent at the Saenger Theater
In 1996, an original rock musical by a little‐known composer opened on Broadway… and forever changed the landscape of American theatre. Two decades later, Jonathan Larson’s RENT continues to speak loudly and defiantly to audiences across generations and all over the world. And now, this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award‐winning masterpiece returns to the stage in a vibrant 20thanniversary touring production. A re‐imagining of Puccini’s La Bohème, RENT follows an unforgettable year in the lives of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams without selling out. With its inspiring message of joy and hope in the face of fear, this timeless
celebration of friendship and creativity reminds us to measure our lives with the only thing that truly matters—love.
