A Toast to New Orleans: Dec. 5-13 : Christmas New Orleans Style/ LUNA Fête 2017/ Words and Music: A Literary Feast/ 4th Annual New Orleans Mission Gala! and Round Table Luncheon on 12.13

Sue Vaccaro and yours truly at the victorious  Saints Vs. Carolina Panthers game

Darlings,

I am still savoring the memories of being in the Superdome for the fabulous victory of our beloved Saints vs. the Carolina Panthers. My darling friend, Tony Award-winning producer Sue Vaccaro, invited me to join her as the guests of Fox TV. It was so much fun bumping into friends and being on the field and later having drinks in our friends’ suites. And when my darling friend Grammy Award winner Irma Thomas sang the National Anthem that made it super special.  Geaux Saints GO!

My week was a social decathlon that I am thankful to God for providing me with the energy to keep doing it.

I hope you will enjoy these links:

2017 Lighting of the Lobby of The Roosevelt

Darlings, the annual Lighting of the Lobby Ceremony in the majestic Roosevelt Hotel was magical. Spearheaded by the General Manager, Dennis Pearse, the actual throwing of the switch, a holiday tradition since the 1930s, was done by the family of the late Fats Domino. The lobby display features 44 birch trees, more than 22,000 twinkling lights and scores of festively dressed Christmas trees. I was invited to attend a private soiree in the Blue Room after the lighting of the Lobby

Royal Sonesta's 12th Annual ‘Lighting of the Balconies
On the other side of Canal Street, three blocks into the French Quarter, the Royal Sonesta New Orleans kept one of their great traditions going as they presented the 12th Annual “Lighting of the Balconies.” As always, it was very festive and I loved the orange trees in the background.

Hosted by WGNO ABC 26’s Kenny Lopez, the newly renovated landmark hotel officially ushered in the French Quarter holiday season with its beloved holiday tradition. Due to the construction on Bourbon Street the soiree took place inside the property's lush interior courtyard. Guests were entertained by talented vocalist, Quiana Lynell, and everyone there enjoyed a very sumptuous and delicious buffet.

With a ceremonial flip of the switch, two young patients from Children's Hospital New Orleans (Landon Arceneaux and Miley Carbo) magically illuminated thousands of twinkling lights that adorn the hotel's classically designed wrought iron balconies. The event is regarded as one of the most memorable local celebrations of the season. Once again, this year's show was infused with plenty of surprises, along with some great entertainment designed to make the holiday season bright for the hotel's guests and patrons.

2017 Prix d' Elegance Award Nominees

Darlings, every year the members of Men and Women of Fashion nominate candidates to become the recipients of the award of Best Dressed Man and Woman of the year. 14 women and 17 men were nominated for the honor but only 10 men and 10 women will be selected. The lovely and delicious 2017 Prix d' Elegance Award Nominee Reception took place at the Ritz-Carlton.

Men & Women of Fashion's Prix d'Elegance Awards Luncheon is Wednesday, April 18 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. The Ballet Resource and Volunteer Organization (BRAVO), the main fundraising entity of the New Orleans Ballet Association, annually produces the much-anticipated gala, and is the recipient of the proceeds. BRAVO is comprised of over 200 dedicated members. My darling friends Mary Katherine Lonatro-Tusa and Henry Shane are the Hall of Fame Recipients.

Ladies Leukemia League's Fete De Noel
The annual Ladies Leukemia League's Fete De Noel at the Hilton was once again a fabulous, very festive soiree. The fashion show by Dillard's was spectacular as well as the delicious luncheon. The cava was pouring at the three tables that Sammy Steele sponsored and, of course, I loved it. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154857545125870.1073743016.581200869&type=1&l=e7aafdd146

2017 Holiday Soiree for New Orleans Consular Corps
On Friday night, I started my fabulous, busy evening at the lovely home of Frank Maselli, Honorary Consul of Italy, where the Consular Corps’ Holiday Soiree took place. I saw so many longtime friends. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154859097795870.1073743017.581200869&type=1&l=3bd03a1d02

2017 Louisiana Women Leaders Conference
The 2017 Louisiana Women Leaders Conference took place on December 2nd at the Marriott New Orleans at 9 a.m in conjunction with Louisiana Center for Women in Government and Business Hall of Fame event.Featured Presenters included Elizabeth Smart and Mike Wagenheim

Son of a Saint 5th Annual Gala
It was that time of year again to attend the lovely SON OF A SAINT 5TH ANNUAL GALA!
It was held at the Le Meridien Hotel on Friday December 1. The evening started with a Patron Party from 7-8 pm, which I attended briefly and was followed by Dinner and Entertainment from 8-10 pm. There was also an after-party from 10 pm-midnight

2017 New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation's Azúcar Ball

Of course, I do not have to tell you that the highlight of my week was the annual super elegant, black tie Azucar Ball 2017 that honored my darling friend, Jenny Hamilton, with the Galvez Cup. It was spectacular. Themed “Festival de Las Flores” and held at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans, it was a festive night of music, dancing, great food and entertainment. The prestigious Gálvez Cup was awarded to Jenny who is the dynamic, longtime Executive Director of the New Orleans Ballet Association.
The Gálvez Cup, the highest recognition awarded by the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation, is presented to a person or entity that has been, through unselfish effort and devotion, of the greatest assistance to the Foundation in its work. The award is named after the most efficient and progressive governor of Louisiana during the Spanish governance period (1776-1783), Don Bernardo de Gálvez. Jenny has worked with the NOHHF in several programs that allow local young Hispanics access to free dancing classes and she has been instrumental over the years in bringing to New Orleans the Ballet Hispánico of New York, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Ballet Folklórico de México, tango groups from Argentina and many other dance and artistic groups showcasing the Hispanic culture throughout the world. My congratulations to Jenny for a well-deserved honor! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154860664215870.1073743019.581200869&type=1&l=40de0006cb

8th Annual Dancing for the Arts

The annual Young Audiences of Louisiana's 8th Annual Dancing for the Arts at the Civic Theater was so much fun. I enjoyed so much seeing my darling friends competing and which they all won in one category or another. I was so disappointed that beautiful Sandra Thompson Herman was under the weather.

Game Twelve: Saints vs. Carolina Panthers - which we won 31-21
WOW! I am so proud of our Saints. What a victory for our Saints vs. the Carolina Panthers 31 to 21. Their victory put them in first place in their division, one game ahead of the Panthers who were tied with the Saints going into Sunday’s contest. So congratulations to the Boys in Black and Gold for a great, exciting game. It will be wonderful to see them hang onto their division lead and go into the playoffs for the first time since the 2013 season. I loved being there and, because of our press passes were able to be on the field, in the press box and visiting our friends at their suites. I also enjoyed listening and videotaping my darling friend, Grammy Award winner and "Soul Queen of New Orleans" Irma Thomas, who sang the National Anthem.
Thank you to my darling friend, Sue Vaccaro, for inviting me to join you. I loved it! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154862768790870.1073743023.581200869&type=1&l=ae6955b730

I concluded my social week by attending the annual Galatoire's Foundation's Christmas Auction that will benefit charities.
Galatoire Foundation's Auction of Tables for Dec. 22
Oh What a night. I started it at the annual Annual Galatoire Foundation’s auction of Tables for the Friday before Christmas. It will benefit Eden House And Make Breakthroughs  Happen Charities. I hate to leave because Veuve Clicquot was pouring but i love seeing my friends bidding for those very desirable tables.
Last night was also Tableau's Mistletoe Lighting Party sponsored by Kendrick Gin.

This upcoming week is going to be another social marathon for me. I have to attend many private parties that I will send you photos next week but here are the soirees that should be fun to attend:

Words & Music, Highlights , December 6 – 10
This year’s message from the founders, Rosemary James and Joseph DeSalvo
Dear Friends:
The 20th anniversary of Words & Music, a Literary Feast in New Orleans, sponsored annually by the Faulkner Society, promises to be among the best of the 20 years.

We hope you will join us for some of the events and hear some of the best minds of or time discuss everything from Leonardo da Vinci to war and collateral damage as inspiration for the arts here and abroad to opera and burlesque, to the counter cultural revolution in Brazil and the literature and music the brutal dictatorship and its war against its own people inspired, to how to read Faulkner and Love It, all interspersed with daily doses of music and great food as
only New Orleans can prepare it. All the while some of the country's top agents and editors, who come to New Orleans looking for new literary talent will be critiquing manuscripts submitted by registered writers and conducted advice sessions on writing craft.

Attached is a highlights pamphlet and here is a direct link to our on-line schedule, where the event descriptions are more complete and contain links to biographical material on presenting authors and artists.
