A Sunny Toast to you and New Orleans: NO Opera Presents Sweeney Todd/ WYES Orpheus Den Tour/ Krewe de Vieux Bridge/Grace House Recycle Fashion Show and More.....

Darlings,
Wonderful spring weather is greeting us as we step out to attend fabulous fun events.
This past week, I really didn't do much.  I received a lot of invitations and my mind wanted to go but my body wouldn’t and I stayed home resting.
I did not miss attending on Thursday, February 2, the always-fun and for a great cause American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Luncheon that was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. As in as in the past, the annual luncheon was entertaining, delicious and for a great cause. I love RED and everyone looked beautiful in their red ensembles.
The Go Red For Women movement encourages local women to take charge of their heart health by making it a top priority. Guests participated in free health screenings and a silent auction, a heart-healthy lunch and heard stories of local women affected by heart disease.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154054759745870.1073742789.581200869&type=1&l=bfdcf6d730

I was saddened by the passing of legendary restaurateur and patrician Drago Cvitanovich. May his Soul RIP! http://www.wwltv.com/news/local/dragos-restaurant-founder-drago-cvitanovich-dies-at-94/398709855.

Drago Cvitanovich, the Croatian immigrant who became patriarch of the family that expanded the oyster and seafood restaurant empire he began nearly 50 years ago, has died. He was 94.

This upcoming week, there are a lot of fun activities. I am looking forward to attending, on Friday, February 10, the opening night of the New Orleans Opera production of Sweeney Todd. Performances are on Friday at 8:00 PM  and Sunday, February 12 at 2:30PM at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts.
New Orleans Opera is excited to present for the first time on a professional stage together, the very talented Grimsley family! New Orleans native bass-baritone Greer Grimsley stars as the murderous barber slicing a path of bloody revenge through Victorian London. Joining him is his wife, New Orleans’ favorite mezzo-soprano, Luretta Bybee, as his wicked partner in crime, Mrs. Lovett, and introducing recent Loyola University graduate Emma Grimsley (their daughter) as Sweeney’s long lost daughter, Johanna.

This weekend in Baton Rouge, Opera Louisiana is presenting my darling friend, talented baritone Ivan Griffin singing the lead role in Ulysses: An American Mythology. The dates are Friday, February 10 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, February 12 at 3:00PM and the performances are in the Manship Theatre at Shaw Center for the Arts, Baton Rouge.
I am also looking forward to viewing the always irreverent

In "Guidebooks to Sin," Arceneaux illustrates her decades of research with facsimile pages from 25 guides (15 original Storyville guides plus 10 imitations that were produced decades after the District officially closed). Together with Emily Epstein Landau's foreword, which places the books in their historical context, the new volume is the ultimate guide to these artifacts, which have long been misconstrued pieces of Storyville's history.
A hardcover, archival-quality art book, "Guidebooks to Sin" features more than 300 images and retails for $50. For more information, visit www.hnoc.org/books.

Pamela D. Arceneaux - GUIDEBOOKS TO SIN: The Bluebooks of Storyville, New Orleans
Please join us when Pamela D. Arceneaux presents and signs GUIDEBOOKS TO SIN: The Bluebooks of Storyville, New Orleans.
Between 1897 and 1917, a legal red-light district thrived at the edge of the French Quarter, helping establish the notorious reputation that adheres to New Orleans today. Though many scholars have written about Storyville, no thorough contemporary study of the blue books-directories of the neighborhood's prostitutes, featuring advertisements for liquor, brothels, and venereal disease cures-has been available until now.
Pamela D. Arceneaux's examination of these rare guides invites readers into a version of Storyville created by its own entrepreneurs. A foreword by the historian Emily Epstein Landau places the blue books in the context of their time, concurrent with the rise of American consumer culture and modern advertising. Illustrated with hundreds of facsimile pages from the blue books in The Historic New Orleans Collection's holdings, Guidebooks to Sin illuminates the intersection of race, commerce, and sex in this essential chapter of New Orleans history.
Pamela D. Arceneaux is senior librarian and rare books curator at The Historic New Orleans Collection, where she has worked since 1981. A native of Panama City, Florida, she grew up in Thomasville, Georgia, before receiving a BA in history from West Georgia College (now the University of West Georgia) and an MLS from Louisiana State University. In recognition of her contributions as an outstanding librarian in a specialized field, the Louisiana Library Association presented the Lucy B. Foote Award to her in 1999.

It's back baby!
Ricky Graham's The Ball & All
A carnival tradition and a must see!
6 shows only, THIS WEEKEND and next

Back by popular demand!
Among the rites of Carnival is the annual run of ... And The Ball and All, the Ricky Graham-penned comedy
about the Mystic Krewe of Terpsichore. The Ball debuted in 1995 (the year in which it's set) and had a long initial run. The outrageous, affectionate chronicle of y'at social custom must be imbued with immortal energies, because it keeps coming back and audiences still love it.
