A Post Mardi Gras Toast to New Orleans February 19-23

Darlings, I hope you all enjoyed the 2015 Carnival Season.

I should be wearing a sign that proclaims that “I am a 2015 Mardi Gras Survivor.” I not only worked at Casell Bergen Gallery but also found time to attend a myriad of awesome Carnival celebrations that included the 45th Annual Greasing of the Poles at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, Friday before Mardi Gras Luncheon at Galatoire's, Kevin Kelly's Mardi Gras ball, as well as the Mystic Krewes of Hermes, Orpheus and Rex Balls.

Instead of writing about them, I would like to share the links with you so you can enjoy the pageantry and the color I enjoyed at these balls.
I must confess that for the first time in many years, the frigid weather prevented Duchess Chiquita and I from joining the revelry on Mardi Gras Day. I knew that I was invited to the Rex Ball and I wanted to enjoy it, which it was the perfect ending of a successful Carnival Season 2015.Margarita Bergen's photo.

Before I share the upcoming social events, I want to share this news: If you haven’t heard the sad, sad news already, in the early hours of Valentine’s Day, we lost a great New Orleanian, Freddie Pincus, due to complications from a heart attack which she suffered about six weeks ago.
The Times-Picayune ran a story which I think helps illustrate what an amazing person she was.  Many of us only knew part of her world, because she was important to so many people in so many varied ways. Here is that article:http://www.nola.com/education/index.ssf/2015/02/clara_mae_freddie_pincus_90_wa.html
I thought you will also enjoy reading this article about talented artist Andrea Mistretta (I am quoted in it): http://www.northjersey.com/news/waldwick-artist-s-poster-is-a-mardi-gras-icon-1.1272042
Thank God,this week is not going to be a social hurricane like week, but I am looking forward to the Consulate of Mexico's opening reception of the exhibition: 34K FT, Photographs from 34,000 feet by Mexican Ambassador José A. Zabalgoitia on February 19, at 6:00 p.m. at the Art Gallery of the Consulate of Mexico, 901 Convention Center Blvd., Suite 118. Complimentary parking will be available at the Sugar Mill garage on Andrew Higgins Street with validated ticket at the Gallery door.

In the afternoon, the French Quarter Business Association is having its first luncheon of the year and it will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 19 at Galvez Restaurant. Guest speakers include Mark Romig, CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation.

This weekend the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra is performing two concerts, the Rachmaninov Symphonic Danceson February 20, 7:30 p.m. on the Northshore (First Baptist Church Covington, 16333 Hwy. 1085) and February 21, 7:30 p.m. at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in Louis Armstrong Park, New Orleans

Guest conductor Teddy Abrams leads the LPO and rising pianist Alessio Bax in an evening of passionate post-Romantic favorites by Rachmaninov, Debussy, and Ravel. Bax brings his elegant and lyrical style to Ravel’s quintessentially French Piano Concerto in G major, preceded by Debussy’s impressionistic work, Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun. The concert concludes with Sergei Rachmaninov’s energetic classic Symphonic Dances.

Darlings, it that time of the year to sit and watch the Oscars and the Prytania Theater is having a watch party on February 22 that looks like it should not be missed!

There are two upcoming events that should not be missed as well:

The Mad Hatter’s Luncheon on Tuesday, March 10 and my next Round Table Luncheon at the JW Marriott on Wednesday, March 11. More details to follow.

Have a great week. It is yours to have it!

A comedic dream team is poised to bring to life Camille, Charles Ludlum's hilarious cross-dressing comedy based on the classic Alexander Dumas story. Director Jeffery T. Roberson (better known on stage as Varla Jean Merman) will direct a cast headlined by A.J. Allegra and co-starring Ricky Graham, Sam Dudley, Sean Patterson, Keith Claverie, Michael Sullivan, Kristin Witterschein, Kyle Daigrepont, Jason Kirkpatrick and Erin Shaw. Camille tells the tear-jerker tale of a Tubercular Parisian courtesan, Marguerite Gautier (played by Allegra), that renounces her jealous, rich lover, the Baron de Varville (Ricky Graham) in order to follow her true heart to the countryside with poor young Armand Duval (Sam Dudley). But what will Armand's family think?! And what about Margueritte's worsening Tuberculosis??!? And how will the Baron take this spurning?!

This comedic melodrama with a surprisingly touching conclusion will have audiences laughing through tears and crying through laughter as The NOLA Project tackles another high-style comedy by the master of the ridiculous, Charles Ludlam.
