A Toast to New Orleans: April 1-8

Darlings,

Glorious spring weather is finally here. My azaleas are in full bloom and it is lovely to look once again the plants joyfully returning to life after a very hard winter season.

Not having found a suitable place to move Casell-Bergen Gallery has taken a toll on me. I have been so stressed out physically and emotionally that I took a very brief sojourn to Destin. I joined my brother Lorenzo for some quality time and much-needed relaxation. The weather was cold and windy but nice and sunny so I enjoyed it, except I am nursing a very bad chest cold that prevented me from attending several great events including the much-anticipated return of the Joffrey Ballet.

I did attend on Saturday night, the annual outdoor 2014 Legacy Donor Foundation's 15th Annual Soul Revival at the lovely home of George and Lauren Brower.  The glorious spring weather, the delicious food by Dickie Brennan's Tableau, decadent libations and great entertainment made it to be a very memorable night.

This week, I am already looking forward to all the great cultural events that my beloved New Orleans is offering.
Join Friends of the Cabildo as the Louisiana State Museum's impressive collection of decorative arts are examined for an exclusive behind-the-scenes viewing April 1 and 3. Katie Burlison, Curator of the Decorative Arts for the Louisiana State Museum, will guide guests through the collection's ceramics, glass, metals and folk objects that represent the coming of spring. The tours will take place at the State Museum's Collection Building, located above Irene's Restaurant.

The Golden Girls Return
Mid-City Theatre Sponsoring Organization: Mid-City Theatre Tickets: Mid-City Theatre
Back by popular demand, following a succession of sold-out performances in January, everybody’s favorite female impersonators are back at it again with their hilariously slapstick reprise on the once-popular TV show – “The Golden Girls.”
Starring Varla Jean Merman, Ricky Graham, Brooklyn Shaffer (aka Brian Peterson) and Brian Johnston - with special guest star Becky Allen - “The Golden Girls” takes you back to the days of Dorothy, Rose, Sophia and the man-hungry Southern belle, Blanche Devereaux. The quartet performs skits from the show, which ran from 1985-1992, and they lead several sing-alongs as well. You’ll be laughing along with these ultra-talented performers as they reenact the South Florida milieu of the original TV series.

NOLA Bike to Work Day
The third annual NOLA Bike to Work Day  will raise awareness about the benefits of biking and regional developments that are making biking easier and safer for all.
Before Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans had approximately 11 miles of bicycle paths. Thanks to a grant from Entergy Corporation and a partnership between the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Public Health Institute, the city now boasts over 84 miles with more planned or under construction.
For its efforts, the City of New Orleans has been designated a Bronze Level Bike Friendly City by the League of American Bicyclists — joining other cities such as Portland, Boulder and Austin who are designated bike-friendly cities. In 2012, the Alliance for Bicycling and Walking Benchmarking Report ranked New Orleans tenth nationwide for the highest number of workers commuting by bike.
For more information or to register for NOLA Bike to Work Day presented by Entergy and Bike Easy, visit http://bikeeasy.org/events/archives/1411/ .
