A Toast to New Orleans and YOU Week of Sept 12-19 : LPO Opening Night/Excelencia Gala of Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and more

Good afternoon my darling family and friends.   Saints Victory Monday, September 12 is waking us. I am alive, healthy, and looking forward to the Opening Night of the LPO and, on Friday, The Excelencia Gala of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of LA.
Mondays are tough only for those people who don’t know how to spend them cheerfully.  Always believe something wonderful is about to happen. May your week be as lovely as you are!

Darlings, ever since my return to my beloved New Orleans I have been swarmed with a myriad of invitations to fun-loving soirees and fundraisers.

I feel blessed and thankful but unfortunately, I cannot make it to all of them. My mind wants to go but my body says, "Oh no, you cannot go."

This past week I experienced a mixture of emotions that ranged from joyful to deep sadness. Joyful at my Round Table Luncheon,  the Krewe of Cork Luncheon at Bayona and the election of my darling longtime friend Janet Nagelin as the new Queen, the celebration of the 45 years of the New Orleans Hilton, a reunion of the "Girlfriends" at Taj Mahal and on Friday, the lovely Le Petit Theatre's Curtain Call Gala.

The death of beloved Queen Elizabeth II brought so much sadness because I admired her devotion to her country, her sense of humor and her fashion legacy. I feel blessed that I was able to attend, in London, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee. I have been glued to my TV and l would have loved to attend her funeral, but everything is sold out and I know I will be more comfortable watching it on my TV. May her soul R.I.P.

On Saturday, I attended not one but two funerals and Celebrations of Life. The moving funeral service for beloved former Mayor Moon Landrieu, followed by a lovely Celebration of Life for beloved philanthropist Betty Brooks at the New Orleans Opera Guild Home.

September 11 always brings a lot of mixed emotions since it was on the 50th floor of Tower 2 of WTC that I worked as an Associate with the Bilingual Bureau of the New York Department of Education.

I am thankful and elated to have received a warm welcome at the annual Round Table Luncheon Saluting the 2022-23 Cultural Season.

The luncheon was co-hosted by Lisa Alexis, Director of the Cultural Economy Office of the City of New Orleans. The featured guests included representatives of Ashe Cultural Arts Center, the New Orleans Arts Council, the Contemporary Art Center, Le Petit Theatre, New Orleans Ballet Association, New Orleans Ballet Theater, Jefferson Performing Arts Society, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, New Orleans Opera, New Orleans Theater Association, WYES and the New French Quarter Citizens

The entertainment by cellist Dr. Maxim Samrov, pianist Jim Walpole, drummer Carl Mack and vocalist/entertainer Marshall Harris made it a very informative, entertaining, delicious and memorable Round Table Luncheon!are!

Darlings, the New Orleans  Hilton Hotel celebrated its 45 year in business at a delicious gathering. I enjoyed so much reminiscing with longtime former General Manager Paul Buckley and the current GM David Piscolo .  Those were the days when I enjoyed dancing in the Rain Forest, eating at the Friday Seafood Luncheon and Bergen Gallery provided the art for the Health Club. My brother Lorenzo enjoyed membership at the Tennis Club ♥️

The passing of Queen Elizabeth II after 70 years on the throne has meant that not just a monarch is gone at the age of 96, but decades of stability and continuity are suddenly gone, too.

THIS FRIDAY: Felipe’s Taqueria Hosts Annual Fiesta Festa on Mexican Independence Day

In preparation of National Hispanic Heritage Month in September, Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria will once again host its annual Fiesta Fest in celebration of the cultural observance of Mexican Independence Day on September 16th.  The festivities will showcase food, music and entertainment unique to Latino culture. The event, free and open to the public, will take over all the Felipe’s locations throughout the city and attendees can find more about specific schedules on the event page on Facebook.

Fiesta Fest commemorates the independence of Mexican and Central American countries, many of which celebrate their national sovereignty in September during National Hispanic Heritage month. This year’s Fiesta Fest will continue to share new cultural experiences that show the expression of Latino culture and community through live music, dance, authentic Mexican cuisine and of course, the most delicious hand-squeezed margaritas around (both on the rocks and frozen.) The entertainment lineup includes La Tran-K Band, Ballet Folkoricio Vive Mi Terra, Fermin Ceballos and more.

“New Orleans has a long history of influence and exchange with Latin American culture, which is why the Felipe's Team continues to honor that relationship with our authentic cuisine and recipes, influenced by several regions of Mexico and Central America. Many of our team members are from this region and Fiesta Fest is an event that we put on with pride to celebrate the new generations of Latinos who call New Orleans home,” said Milton Orellana, Culinary Manager for Felipe’s New Orleans locations.

Fiesta Fest will take place on Friday, September 16 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the vibrant Mid-City, Uptown and French Quarter Felipe’s Locations. More information can be found on the Facebook Fiesta Fest event pages below:

I am looking forward to attending on September 16, the Annual Excelencia Gala of The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Of Commerce of Louisiana.

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana (HCCL) is a non-profit organization created in 1999 committed to creating and facilitating a business climate within the Hispanic community in order to achieve economic development and progress for Louisiana. Included within its focus is a dedication to the expansion of trade relations between the State of Louisiana and Latin America.

At the Excelencia Gala, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana honors outstanding individuals and corporations with its Excelencia Awards in recognition of their achievements, leadership, inspiration, and active

engagement with the Hispanic community. As Hispanic integration has become essential to the economic and cultural vitality of our area, what could be more fitting to mark Hispanic Heritage Month than with this very special evening.

WOW:New Orleans Ballet Association brings KYIV CITY BALLET to New Orleans for the very first time on October 22Tickets now on sale for as low as $35 ($25 with valid student ID and seniors 65 and over)
The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) launches its 2022-23 season of dance on October 22 at 7:30 p.m. with the US premiere tour of Kyiv City Ballet at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts. NOBA’s curation of vibrant, culturally significant, captivating, and awe-inspiring dance offerings represent the best and brightest of what the dance world has to offer today.
Amid a greater struggle, the exemplary dancers of Ukraine’s Kyiv City Ballet are a “voice of resistance” (National Geographic) on the global stage, bringing light and joy in the darkness to audiences worldwide. On February 23, the company unknowingly boarded what would be one of the last flights out of Ukraine for a long-planned tour. They have since not been able to return home and have been sheltered by France, performing throughout the country and in Europe. Marking their first performances in the U.S., this magnificent company, under the direction of former Mariinsky Theater artist Ivan Kozlov, brings “Tribute to Peace,” a program of works by Ukrainian choreographers. “Touring the States for the first time with a range of ballets makes an important global statement. It demonstrates the resilience of the Ukrainian people,” states Kozlov. From classical ballet to Ukrainian folk dance, this inspiring evening that showcases the very best of this country’s rich cultural heritage will feature two of the top prima ballerinas of Ukraine — Krystina Kadashevych and Oksana Bondarenko — and Vsevolod Maevskiy, formerly with St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Ballet. In a show of support and solidarity with these artists, audiences will be uplifted by their talent and sheer determination to continue through such vast adversity.
Following this performance, the season continues with Ronald K. Brown / EVIDENCE, the return of New Orleans favorite Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, the acrobatic and visually stunning MOMIX dance company with their interpretation of the beloved Alice in Wonderland story and concludes with the magnificent national company from the country of Georgia, the State Ballet of Georgia, accompanied by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.May be an image of 1 person and dancing
