WOW! Last week was a very special week that culminated with my attendance at the thrilling Saints game vs. Arizona Cardinals at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

"A Haunting Affair" was indeed haunting at The Women’s Guild of the New Orleans Opera Association “A Haunting Affair” on Saturday October 26, at the lovely haunted Guild Home at 2504 Prytania St., New Orleans. Entertainment at the Patron Party was talented Jim Walpole, followed by opera singers. Guests danced away the night to the music of The Yat Pack as they feasted on Heavenly Food and Wicked Libations

The exquisite mansion of Greer and David Monteleone in Old Metairie was the lovely setting for The Historic New Orleans Collection's 2019 Bienville Circle and Laussat Society Gala on October 23.
Society chair and THNOC board member, Alexandra Stafford, after describing the acquisitions, publications and projects funded by the society, announced the THNOC is under contract to publish a full-length biography of Enrique Alferez as part of its Louisiana Artists Biography Series. Researched and written by Katie Bowler Young, it is due for publication in 2020.

Bravo Michael Murphy! I thoroughly enjoyed the World Premiere of the very informative and entertaining documentary film, “Up From The Streets” on October 22, at the Orpheum Theater with filmmakers in attendance.
From Louis Armstrong to James Booker, jazz and blues to rock and roll, New Orleans is known the world over for its phenomenal musicians and vibrant music scene. “Up From the Streets” offers a comprehensive look into the history of New Orleans music and its extensive influence around the world. With Afro-Caribbean influence to Mardi Gras Indians and Second Line parades, New Orleans is home to a unique mesh of cultures.
Through interviews, performances, and street footage, this film celebrates life through the universal language of music. New Orleans music may come from the streets, but where it takes you is boundless.

Voodoo Queen Kalindah Laveaux is an authentic New Orleans Voodoo Priestess who comes from a strong lineage of traditional spiritual practices. Kalindah is an accomplished singer who honors her ancestors and spiritual linage through her music. Today Kalindah will honor those that came from the Middle Passage to New Orleans and Africans who were enslaved throughout the world with spirituals, call and response songs, as well as traditional jazz standards. This event is free and open to the public, sponsored by the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park.

Dia de Los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. This UNESCO
recognized and protected tradition has become a chance
for people of all walks of life to recognize and celebrate
their ancestors through ofrendas, or offerings, to assist
them on their afterlife journey.
In conjunction with the CONSULADO DE MÉXICO EN NUEVA
ORLEÁNS, an exhibition and altar will be open to the public
Friday October 25 – Sunday November 3, 2019 11AM – 3PM.
The exhibit will include educational activities for young visitors.
The exhibition is closed Monday, October 28th and on Thursday,
October 31st for special school programming.
