Darlings,
Congratulations to the Saints for their win over the Cowboys 12-10. It was a nail-biter right down to the finish but the Boys in Black & Gold held on to win in the closing minutes. Geaux Saints! Next up are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home in the Dome on Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 p.m.
I want to wish all my Jewish friends a peaceful Rosh Hashanah.
On a sad note, the opera lovers community is sadly mourning the loss of one of its brightest stars:Jessye Norman, the renowned international opera star died
Darling this past week, like the others, was a social whirl for me. I enjoyed very much ending my week at the Latino Village at the 2019 Gretna Heritage Festival
Album Latino Village at the 2019 Gretna Heritage Festival (33 photos)
Thanks to my longtime friend Marcel Gonzalez, Vice President at Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Co. who provided me with 4 VIP passes to the Latino Village, I was able to invite my brother Lorenzo Bergen, Carolina Gallop and her nephew to attend a very memorable afternoon.
I enjoyed so much seeing talented Jose Feliciano who still sounds and looks good after all these years. I met him 45 years ago in NYC at The Children Television Workshop, creators and producers of “Sesame Street.” I enjoyed, as well, The Iguanas and Rumba Buena.
I was delighted to see my darling friend, Greg Lambousy, director of the New Orleans Jazz Museum, presenting Jose Feliciano with the New Orleans Jazz Museum Lifetime Achievement Award.
One of the highlights of my week and one that is going to go down memory lane as one of the most spectacular parties, was the Grand Opening of The Sazerac House:
Album Grand Opening of the Sazerac House (37 photos)
“Spectacular!” is the word to describe the elegant Grand Opening of the Sazerac House, a new interactive cocktail museum. The 48,000 square-foot, historic building stands on the corner of Canal and Magazine Streets is the product of Bill Goldring, American billionaire businessman, chairman of the Sazerac Company, and head of the family that owns Sazerac, the second largest spirits company in the U.S.
I felt very honored when my darling friend, Bill, personally invited me and the “Who’s Who” in New Orleans to be part of his exclusive Patron Party before the cutting of the ribbon.
I love this photo of New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, Mayor LaToya Cantrell and yours truly.
Another superb, beautiful party was the annual New Orleans Museum of Art's “Love in the Garden”:
Album 2019 Love in the Garden (30 photos)
Guests enjoyed a night of dining and dancing to the sounds of Randi and the Nola Dukes band under the stars and under the Spanish moss-laden oaks in the sculpture garden. I think this is the first time that I actually stayed for more than a few minutes and I loved seeing the new expansion of the garden, as well as so many longtime friends and mixologists.
Album St. Elizabeth's Guild Volunteer Awards Luncheon (40 photos)
The St. Elizabeth’s Guild's 49th Annual Volunteer Activists Awards Luncheon, Friday, September 27, at the Hyatt Regency was, as in the past, delicious and a lot of fun.
Grammy Award-winner Irma Thomas sang the National Anthem followed by invocations and remarks by Most Reverend Gregory M. Aymond, Archbishop of New Orleans.
The Honorary Chair was Mrs. Gayle Benson and my darling friends, Deborah Alciatore-Empey and Sonda Stacey, were the Luncheon Chairpersons. Talented pianist and Hall of Fame honoree, Ronnie Kole, played beloved “A Closer Walk with Thee.”
The Guild honored ten community activists and four Hall of Fame Activists at the luncheon. The 2019 Activists were Bebe Babst, Barra L. Birrcher, Deborah and John Blancher, Elizabeth A. Boh, Celie Fraiche Clark, Gayle Leaumont Gaubert, Stacy F. Pellerin, Margaret Wood Ransone and Erin Shea Stahnke. The Hall of Fame Honorees were Blanche M. Comiskey, Ronnie Kole, Sybil Haydel Morial and John P. Laborde.
The luncheon was followed by a lovely Fashion Show with local activists and TV personalities serving as models.

The New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation (NOPJF) hosted its exclusive fundraiser of the year, the annual Stake Out for Justice Luncheon on Wednesday, September 25 at the Sheraton New Orleans.
The opening remarks were presented by Jim Cook, NOPJF Chairman and General Manager of the Sheraton Hotel. Melanie Talia, JD, NOJPF President and CEO, held a Q & A with Superintendent Shaun Ferguson of the New Orleans Police Department.
During the luncheon there were presentations of Badges of Honors, Partners of Police Award.
I loved meeting Superintendent Ferguson and Toby, the star of the Canine Division.
Album The Wild Palms- Happy Birthday, Mr. Faulkner! (21 photos)
The spectacular church of the Hotel Peter and Paul was the setting for The Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society's black-tie annual Fall Festival. The lovely soiree “Happy Birthday, Mr. Faulkner!” honored and saluted all great writers—past, present, and yet to come.
The September 25, Wild Palms gala featured a signature cocktail (The Wild Palm Cocktail), concert, buffet dinner, program and dancing by the New Orleans Ragtime Band, led by my longtime friend Lars Edegran.
The soiree included presentations of the Faulkner Society's 2019 winners, parade of the gold medal medalists escorted by this year's judges. It was followed by the presentation of the 2019 winners of the Society ALIHOT Awards (A Legend in His/Her Own Time). The ALIHOT Award is given to men and women for excellence in literature, journalism, music, art, and community service or philanthropy.
Well-known community activists, Michael Harold and Quinn Peeper, hot off their huge success with “Rach & Bach” last fall, co-chaired the fundraiser and performed a concert of music Faulkner would have heard when he was living on Pirate's Alley and writing his first novel here in 1925. From the same era of New Orleans music, talented socialite and columnist, Nell Nolan, and acclaimed dancer, David Gentry, performed a lovely tango to the delight of the audience!
I love meeting talented author Tayari Jones ,winner of the 2019 Alihot Award for Literature.
The award is given to men and women for excellence in literature , journalism, music, art, and community service , or philanthropy.

The New Orleans Fashion Week was one event that I wished that I could have had more time to attend since every one of the events that I attend was so spectacular.
