Darling friends,
Let's welcome the month of November, 2019. Happy November! It is the month to remind us to be thankful for all the positive things that are happening in our life.
I don't know if it is because I am getting older but I thought that October 2019, was the socially busiest month ever! I was hopping like a butterfly from one soiree to another and even missing quite a few because they were too many.
Among those that enjoy attending this past week were the following:
Son of a Saint hosted its gala on Friday, Nov. 1 in partnership with the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans. The seventh annual event raises funds for programming, providing holistic mentorship to 100 young men.
...
I loved joining and celebrating, as a member of the French Quarter Citizens, its mission to preserve the French Quarter on Friday, November 1.
I missed the Patron party where guests enjoyed an exclusive pre-party from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m., with the Gala event following from 8:00 until 11:00 p.m. The evening was completed with delicious cuisine provided by many of New Orleans’ finest restaurants, along with an open bar, dancing, and both live and silent auctions. The celebrity auctioneer was my darling longtime friend, TV and radio personality Ms. Angela Hill.
Frances and Rodney Smith, of the historic Soniat House, were the 2019 Gala Honorary Chairs. Also honored were generous hosts, Joe and Becky Jaeger, of the New Orleans Hotel Collection.
described it before the performance which enriched my experience.
Maestro Prieto presented Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “The Isle of the Dead,” with descriptions of what inspired Rachmaninoff to write it. I just loved Edvard Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suites 1 and 2.” I had the opportunity to visit his home when I was in the land of my grandfather: Norway. I also loved Igor Stravinsky’s “Petrushka,” 1947 version and how Maestro Prieto described it before the performance which enriched my experience.
Album Uncorked! A History of Wine in New Orleans (46 photos)
New Orleans Collection's Uncorked! A Hi...
As my beloved darling friend, winemaker Robert Mondavi (RIP) once said" Wine to me is passion. It’s family and friends. It’s warmth of heart and generosity of spirit. Wine is art. It’s culture. It’s the essence of civilization and the art of living."
I also loved this quote by Martin Luther "Men created beer but wine was created by God." I will drink to that.
As a dedicated consumer, I looked forward and enjoyed so much, The Historic New Orleans Collection's “Uncorked! A History of Wine in New Orleans.”
On November 2, I joined other wine lovers for the sixth edition of The Historic New Orleans Collection’s culinary symposium series, in which, the history of wine drinking in New Orleans was explored. Acclaimed culinary historian and author, Jessica Harris, moderated the program, which followed the history of wine from the late 18th century to the present, to show how New Orleanians have imported, served, and imbibed through the centuries.
My longtime friend, wine expert Tim McNally, led a panel to discuss "Serving Wine, Then and Now." It was composed of Braithe Tidwell, of Brennan's, Lisa Blount of Antoine's, Dustin Miller of Arnaud's and Katherine Lang of Galatoire's. After the talks, participants were invited to enjoy a light reception and a sampling of wines provided by the Bordeaux Wine Council, which sponsored the event.

Issues of racism and racial divisions in the United States are front and center in politics and are an increasingly fraught situation. But, race is not biological, it is a social construct developed throughout our country’s history. To be non-white in America means improvising; to pass is to improvise on thin ice. This panel explores the fluidity of race and the boundaries of identity. Panelists include BLISS BROYARD, author of One Drop: My Father’s Hidden Life-A Story of Race and Hidden Secrets, DR. SHIRLEY ELIZABETH THOMPSON, author of Exiles at Home: The Struggle to Become American in Creole New Orleans and KRISTINA KAY ROBINSON, visual artist, author and co-editor of Mixed Company, a collection of short fiction by women of color. Moderated by DR. WENDY GAUDIN, author, historian and professor at Xavier University
