Darlings,
Another exciting week just went by in my
beloved New Orleans.
There were so many cultural and fun events
that I finally resigned myself to the fact that I just could not do them all. I
must confess, though, that I sure tried.
Among those that I enjoyed attending were the Sixth Annual Suits & Salads Luncheon to benefit Dress for Success
New Orleans at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, The luncheon was so much fun and
very inspiring The event featured Ti
Martin as the keynote speaker, a silent auction,
original artwork and a raffle courtesy of Mignon Faget and Hiller Jewelry.
Proceeds will go toward operating the Dress for Success boutique, which works to
provide disadvantaged women with professional attire and a network of career
support.

On Friday night, I started my night at the 10th Anniversary of Cork in the Park. It is a
special wine tasting event to support historic City Park, at the Pavilion of the
Two Sisters in City Park’s New Orleans Botanical Garden and the champagne and
fabulous wines were flowing. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152709769640870.1073742450.581200869&type=1&l=06004d9f26
Darlings, decked out all in red, I attended
the always-fun Preservation Resource Center’s “A Red Hot Jazz Gala: 15th Annual
Ladies in Red” is at the Carver Theater, The gala honored jazz musicians for
their contributions to New Orleans’ cultural legacy. The event also raised funds
to support the Preservation Resource Center and its cultural heritage
programming. This year’s honorees were Antoine "Fats"
Domino represented by his daughter, Doreen Ketchens, Ellis Marsalis, Deacon John Moore, Tipitina's Foundation
and Joseph
Torregano.

On Saturday, I started my night at the American Heart Association's Heart Soul Gala at the Empire Ballroom of
the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. The evening celebrated the work and mission of
the American Heart Association, the donors and volunteers, and — most
importantly — the lives saved and improved because of everyone’s effort. The
Heart Ball was an engaging evening of fun and passion bringing community and
philanthropic leaders together. Last year, the Heart Ball events raised close to
$73 million with support from over 100,000 individuals and corporations
nationwide, allowing them to fund research and programs across the country and
in our community. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152712958485870.1073742451.581200869&type=1&l=8d5326bbe5
Decked out in my summer whites I attended the
cool Havana Nights at the International House which was so much fun. I love
seeing my friends dressed in elegant white. The music, the decadent cocktails
and the atmosphere were superb. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152712980815870.1073742452.581200869&type=1&l=9fa59f3965
On Sunday, Mother Nature cooperated with the Casa Argentina's Annual Spring BBQ and
provided a beautiful cool day to be outdoors. The argentinian parrillada was
delicious. My brother, Lorenzo Bergen, Duchess Chiquita
Bergen and I enjoyed the asado that consisted of beef
alongside various other meats, which were cooked on a grill, called a parrilla,
on an open fire. The salad, the tres leches, the flan, the sangria and the
melodic Latin music along with the empanadas made it a very memorable
afternoon. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152714046090870.1073742453.581200869&type=1&l=9d02e96e32
After the delicious asado, I took a nap and missed several soirees but I
was ready to attend and celebrate The “Big 4-Oh! Gala” of The NOCCA
Institute and it was awesome. The gala featured performances by Grammy Award
winners Pedrito Martinez and
Terence Blanchard and NOCCA talented
students, food by New Orleans top
chefs, and both silent and live auctions. The gala supported The NOCCA
Institute, which provides supplemental funding to run the regional,
pre-professional arts training center. There food and libations were so
delicious and decadent that I left early to avoid over-drinking and overeating.

New Orleans' most historic playhouse presents Merrily We Roll Along for the final show of its 98th Anniversary Season. Traveling backward through time, Merrily We Roll Along traces the friendship of composer Franklin Shepard and his two best friends through each defining moment of their lives. Their journey crackles with wit and humor while showcasing one of the greatest musical scores in the American theatre.
Tom Cianfichi directs the sophisticated and time-bending musical favorite by Stephen Sondheim (Into the Woods, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd) and George Furth (Company), based on the play by George S. Kaufmann and Moss Hart.
