Darlings,
If you’re feeling like me, we should be wearing a big sign that says that we survived the 10-year- after events from Hurricane Katrina. I was attending every event and enjoyed very much the very informative workshops of Katrina 10 and its resilience at the Sheraton Hotel.
This are wonderful links to the events:
I took a break to attend the long-anticipated opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the $1 billion-plus University Medical Center New Orleans.Spectacular was the word that Mayor Mitch Landrieu used to describe the new facilities of the University d Medical Center New Orleans- All the politicians and the VIP of the medical center were there. It was a historical event.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152926471145870.1073742506.581200869&type=1&l=0de4c801a9
I kept attending the workshops dealing with economic development, tourism and museums but honestly I just could not take it anymore. By Friday, August 28, I needed to distract myself from the 10 Year anniversary events. Fortunately, my darling friend Mark Romig invited me to attend the lovely reception in honor of the International Community at the Aquarium.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152930083745870.1073742507.581200869&type=1&l=4e23920a3c
That evening I went to see my darling friends, talented entertainers Becky Allen, Marshall Harris and Jim Walpole at Mag at the Marigny. It was so entertaining and was enjoyed by all.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152930244685870.1073742508.581200869&type=1&l=ebbaa40992
On Saturday, after work at Casell-Bergen Gallery, I just went home to reflect about Katrina, its aftermath and its continuing recovery. We were united in tragedy but the New Orleans community is also united in HOPE! Let’s move on.
I concluded my week by attending the FestiGals' Gridiron for Girls at Manning's. The great football legend Archie Manning was there. The only things missing were the Saints players. As one of the have been Grand Diva, I opted to wear the FestiGals colors but most of the gals were wearing the black and gold and they looked great.
The Voice of the Saints- Mark Romig and his sister- the Saints Spotter - talented Mary Beth Romig made it very informative and fun. I think I learned a few things to help me along for the upcoming football season. .
On a sad note, Gloria LeBlanc Boutte, the lovely matriarch of the Boutte Family that includes talented Lillian Boutte', John Boutté, Lolet Ayita Boutte, Tanya E.Boutte and many others passed away. I was blessed to have known her for a long time. May her soul rest in peace and my deepest condolences to the Boutte Family.http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/theneworleansadvocate/obituary.aspx?n=gloria-leblanc-boutte&pid=175670127&fhid=29155
I also just learned that another pillar of our community also passed away this week. The lovely Sergia Myra De Bram died peacefully on August 19. She worked for many years at the International World Trade Center and owned the first Latin beauty salon called Myra's. She was the beloved mother of my darling friend, Alexis De Bram.
This upcoming week is going to be a very special one. On September 2 is the 7th Annual Cultural Collision.Someone once likened Culture Collision to a trade show, but it's so much more! Nowhere else in town will you will find more than 65 of New Orleans' performing and visual arts organizations under one roof for a one-night-only event of artistic celebration and schmoozing. Let that sink in a moment - for the professional and arts aficionado in you, unlimited networking awaits; for the philanthropist in you, an array of tax-deductible organizations to donate generously to.
Jazz in the Park returns for eight straight weeks this fall, with a stellar roster of New Orleans music that features Jon Cleary, Charmaine Neville, Partners & Crime, Russel Batiste and friends, Raw Oyster Cult, The Pinnettes Brass Band, Gina Brown, Marlon Jordan and Little Freddie King to name a few.
