A Toast to New Orleans and YOU week of July 4 to 10. Happy 4th! Go Fourth on the River/ BT House's Evening of Absinthe and more

Good morning my darling family and friends. Happy July 4th. We are so grateful to be back in our beloved New Orleans with a lot of fun-loving memories of an amazing trip to Charleston & Savannah. I loved the history, the architecture, the food and the libation of these two historic cities. Traveling with my roommate Rick Tringali and his mother made it to be very memorable experiences and I am grateful! I must confess that i feel blessed to live in my adopted city of New Orleans. They are similar but to me there is only one New Orleans and I am always excited to be coming home.
I love my adopted country of America and as – Wendell L. Wilkie said, “I believe in America because we have great dreams, and because we have the opportunity to make those dreams come true.” "We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it." — William Faulkner!

Fortunately for me, Libby and Rick loves documenting all our experiences. So, I hope you will enjoy some of the links.  We sure eat and drank our way through it!

Go Fourth on the River

July 4: The Mississippi River has long linked the people of this region to the rest of America, and on our great country's birthday, the people of New Orleans invite all to Go Fourth in celebration. Come down earlier in the day to experience the fabulous attractions/shopping along the Riverfront! Then, starting at 9 pm on both sides of the Great Mississippi, fireworks will shoot and scream and burst in to the sky from the banks and from barges, accompanied by a medley of patriotic songs. Settle in between Governor Nichols St. Wharf and Canal St. Dock. Free. go4thontheriver.com.

EVENING OF ABSINTHE AT HISTORIC BK HOUSE & GARDENS
Featuring Highlights from the Absinthe Frappe & Tasting

July 6 will bring a special Evening of Absinthe with journalist and author Marielle Songy, highlighting her book The Absinthe Frappe, and complemented by a sampling of Jade Nouvelle-Orléans Absinthe Supérieure, courtesy of Ted A. Breaux of Jade Liqueurs, LLC.

This not-to-be-missed program will be held at 6 pm in the beautifully restored, air-conditioned BK House Salon, with doors opening at 5:30 pm.  Tickets are $10 ($5 for members) and include a specialty crafted absinthe cocktail with light refreshments. Visit https://www.bkhouse.org to reserve your seat. The Absinthe Frappe will be available for purchase following the presentation.

The presentation will examine the history of absinthe, its origins, and its influences, culminating in the story of the iconic New Orleans cocktail. The audience will learn how bartender Cayetano Ferrér invented the concoction as she delves into the early days of the drink and its first home, the Old Absinthe House in the Crescent City. Songy will explore the ban on absinthe in the United States and Europe and the misguided reasoning behind it, all in the context of New Orleans’s response to national Prohibition more broadly.  She will discuss the lifting of the restrictions on absinthe in 2007, a move largely spearheaded by New Orleans scientist and master distiller Theodore Breaux, who dispelled long-held notions that the Green Fairy invariably drove its connoisseurs to madness.
