Before I share with you all the upcoming fun events and the joyful news I want to express my deepest sorrow and condolences to the victims of the Pittsburgh Synagogue attack. My prayers are for those innocent souls that lost their lives and were injured by the senseless massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. I am in a state of disbelief that these hate crimes are happening in 2018. WE must stopped it. SHALOM!

NOMA's Opening of The Orleans Collection
I was invited to a reception at the New Orleans Museum of Art in honor of the opening of the new exhibit: The Orleans Collection.
In celebration of the city of New Orleans' Tricentennial in 2018, NOMA presents The Orleans Collection, an exhibition of selections from the magnificent collection of the city's namesake, Philippe II, Duke of Orléans. Universally praised in his lifetime, the exceptional collection was comprised of some of the most important works in the history of art. This exhibition brings together a representative group of around forty masterpieces from Philippe's collection, gathered from museums and galleries across the US and Europe, to tell the complex story of the collection's formation, reputation, and impact for later generations.

61st Annual “Weiss Awards"
The New Orleans Council for Community and Justice's 61st Annual “Weiss Awards” at the Hyatt was awesome!
The “Weiss Awards” recognizes members of the Greater New Orleans community whose civic and humanitarian contributions to the furtherance of human dignity were outstanding and an example to be followed. The honorees were: Mayor LaToya Cantrell; Rev. Fred Luter Jr., senior pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church; attorney Leopold Sher; U.S. District Judge Jay Zainey; the Pro Bono Publico Foundation; and the Rhodes family.

Darlings, I am so grateful to Mother Nature for blessing us with the most glorious weather to enjoy the festivities associated with Friday before Halloween.
I was invited to join Valerie Grubb, Paige Vance and a few other fabulous women and men at the wine room of Brennan's. It was billed as a Dia de los Muertos Luncheon and, as such, the long table was magnificently decorated.
Pink champagne was the drink of choice and the appetizers and entrees were divine. While the food was being prepared I stopped at the Rib Room of the Omni Royal were a lot of my friends enjoying culinary delights. I returned to Brennan's, enjoyed my luncheon and rushed to Galatoire's where revelers were lingering while consuming Veuve Clicquot Champagne. I hope you will enjoy these photos.

30th Anniversary of the March of Dimes
Darlings, the annual gathering of New Orleans's finest culinary talent the “Signature Chefs Auction” in support of the March of Dimes, at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel, home of the Lead Chef, Tom Wolfe, was lovely and delicious even though I was just there for a few minutes.
This year’s event marks the 80th anniversary for the March of Dimes, and they’re celebrating with their annual gathering of culinary talent, including Lead Chef, Tom Wolfe. This black-tie gala began with a 90-minute tasting experience followed by a live auction and “Fund the Mission.”

James Bond Halloween Party
Darlings, handsome James Bond welcomed party guests to the fabulous party: Secret Hush-Hush-James Bond Halloween Party, hosted by Catherine Whitney and Kate Burgun at their lush French Quarter Courtyard.
Savories, martinis, pink panthers, highballs, witches brew and buffet was enjoyed by all the guests and they were introduce to the live music by Undercover Kate & The Criminals. Becky Allen's Halloween Birthday Party
My evening continued and this time, it was the annual Birthday Party for legendary, talented Becky Allen at Marshall Harris' lovely mansion overlooking Bayou St. John. Marshall and the Krewe of Stars sure know how to throw a party. It was spectacular and everyone was so creative with their costumes. I loved it.

On Wednesday, October 31 - Halloween Day - the annual Round Table Luncheon will salute the Jefferson Performing Arts Society and its upcoming “Pasta and Puccini” Gala (Nov.10) and Halloween 2018. The luncheon will take place at noon in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel, 717 Orleans Street in the heart of the French Quarter, and doors open at 11:30 a.m. The festive event will be co-hosted by social editor Margarita Bergen and Maestro Dennis Assaf, Executive and Artistic Director of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society.
In keeping up with the Halloween theme, guests are encouraged to don costumes of famous Storyville characters or characters out of Toulouse Lautrec's artworks. But other costumes are welcome as well. Prizes will be given to the best costumes.
Maestro Assaf will be bringing in professional performers from the JPAS, along with Pasta and Puccini entertainers. In addition, our talented, beloved Becky Allen, Marshall Harris, Carl Mack and Jim Walpole will add to the live entertainment.

The annual Tasting of Republic National Distributors' Portfolio of Fine Wines: "Grape Expectations" at the Club XLIV in Champions Square, was just lovely. There were more wines that I could taste so I always rely on the expertise of my darling friends, Patrick van Hoorebeek of Patrick’s Bar Vin and Fred Holley of Republic Beverages to guide me through the tasting. It was a very memorable evening.

Poppy Tooker's release of Pascal's Manale Cookbook
The legendary Pascal's Manale Restaurant was the setting for the release of the Pascal’s Manale Cookbook by my darling longtime friend, the talented Poppy Tooker. The cookbook chronicles the food and the story of New Orleans’ second oldest, continuously operating family-owned restaurant.
Poppy is a native New Orleanian who has spent her life immersed in the vibrant colors and flavors of her state. Poppy’s NPR-affiliated radio show and podcast, “Louisiana Eats!” carries her message statewide and beyond. She is also a regular panel member on Peggy Scott Laborde’s “Steppin’ Out” program on WYES-Channel 12 on Friday evenings.
VIP Kick-Off Party for the 2018 New Orleans Film Festival
My darling friend, Valerie Grubb, President of the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Film Society, invited me to cover the VIP Kick-OFF Party of the 2018 New Orleans Film Festival at the exquisitely renovated Orpheum Theater. I enjoyed very much meeting some of the VIP guests that included Director Peter Farrelly and his family. His film, Green Book, was the film that showed at the theater on opening night.
VIP Reception for Ogden's O What a Night
Darlings, since I was not able to attend, on Saturday, October 20, the fabulous annual Ogden Museum of Southern Art's O What a Night event, I attended the awesome and delicious Patron Party at the Garden District, art-filled residence of Ogden Museum Board Member, Dr. Troy Scroggins, and his partner, Keith Malvitz.
Each October the Ogden Museum hosts its annual O What a Night! Dubbed “The Met Ball of the South,” It is an unparalleled celebration of Southern art, culture and cuisine. The O What a Night Gala was on Saturday, October 20 and it honored Coleman E. Adler IIand artist John Alexander.

As in the past, The Historic New Orleans Collection’s annual Bienville Circle and Laussat Society Gala at the lovely home of Andrew and Susu Stall was superb.
The HNOC is a museum, research center and publisher dedicated to preserving the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South and this year it is commemorating 300 years of New Orleans' history.
Opening of Reagan Charleston's Retail Store
I was invited to Canal Place for an opening celebration for local jewelry designer and Bravo TV’s “Southern Charm New Orleans” star Reagan Charleston’s first retail store on the second floor of Canal Place. The grand opening featured live music by songbird vocalist Robin Barnes and cocktails. The event also coincided with the debut of a New Orleans-themed living green wall in Canal Place’s atrium
International Champagne Day with Ruth KoffmanAs you know Friday, October 19 was International Champagne Day and, in keeping with the occasion’s theme, I celebrated big time at Effervesce since I was invited by my longtime friend Ruth Koffman. She was in town from California to celebrate her birthday with actors and friends from the Tennessee Williams Festival.
Opera Créole's Les Lions de la Reconstruction
On October 20 I enjoyed very much seeing the return of New Orleans' Opera Créole to the Marigny Opera House with a new production:Les Lions de la Reconstruction . It was performed at 7:00 pm Saturday and Sunday, October 20-21. A pre-show lecture was being offered each evening by Dr. Louis Roudane.
This original opera featured a libretto by Opera Creole co-founder, Givonna Joseph, and music by Creole composers of the 19th century. The story examines the contributions of Free People of Color to the liberation movement of the 1860s seeking suffrage, equal protection under the law and education for all, along with its impact on historical luminaries of the time and on our world today.
Shangri-La's Witches & Warlocks Champagne Luncheon
WOW! What a fabulous day that started at Andrea's for the always-fun Shangri-La's Witches & Warlocks Champagne Luncheon. The witches’ hats were outstanding and, as one of the judges, I had a hard time selecting the winners. The entertainment by talented Becky Allen, Marshall Harris, Carl Mack and Jim Walpole made it so fun much fun and a very memorable afternoon. The food, prepared by Chef/Proprietor Andrea Apuzzo was superb.
Tricentennial Vive Le Vieux Carré Gala!

One of the most historic buildings in New Orleans, the Louisiana State Museum’s Cabildo, was the setting for the lovely and delicious Tricentennial Vive Le Vieux Carré Gala! Congratulations to Co-chairs Carol Allen and Brenda Moffitt, Hon. Vincent Sciama, Consul of France and Honorary Chair and the 300 Committee, for a fabulous soiree.
Commemorating both VCPORA’s 80th birthday and the City’s 300th birthday, this special event featured a silent auction, live music, libations and food provided by presenting sponsor Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts. This Gala was an awesome opportunity to celebrate and appreciate the French Quarter’s architecture, history and culture.
NOBA's Dance Theatre of Harlem

The New Orleans Ballet Association proudly presented the return of world-renowned Dance Theatre of Harlem for a single performance at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in Louis Armstrong Park. Of course I wasn't going to miss it. The 20-member troupe presented dance works by George Balanchine, Christopher Wheeldon, Darrell Grand Moultrie and a feature-length piece called “Dougla,” a colorful recreation of a wedding ceremony in Trinidad, commissioned by DTH founder, the late Arthur Mitchell from choreographer Geoffrey Holder in 1974.
Dance Theatre of Harlem is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season and they always put on a spectacular performance. Artistic Director Virginia Johnson held a pre-performance talk at 7:15 on the theater’s mezzanine level which I missed but I did attend the always fun VIP Reception at the first intermission.

Mother Nature blessed Casa Argentina with glorious weather to host their annual Fall BBQ under the centuries-old oaks laden with Spanish moss at City Park. It was very well attended and I enjoyed seeing so many longtime friends.
The food was delicious and the awesome rhythmic sounds of Julio and Cesar and Andrew Guillermo Herrera made the Asado to be a very memorable one. Que Rico!
WOW! After reading all the events that I was able to attend, I am very grateful to God and to all my friends who included me and my escort in all these fun-filled events. GRACIAS AMIGOS!

Sybil Morial - WITNESS TO CHANGE
Please join us when Sybil Morial returns to Octavia Books,513 Octavia Street at 6 p.m. for a presentation and signing celebrating the paperback release of her memoir, WITNESS TO CHANGE: From Jim Crow to Political Empowerment.
Sybil Morial's autobiography traces her childhood in New Orleans, activism during the Civil Rights Movement, and continuing life of service.
From her unique vantage point in New Orleans, Sybil Haydel Morial's life spans one of the most critical periods in our country's history. In this remarkable memoir, Morial chronicles her life as both witness to and catalyst for sweeping changes-desegregation, the end of Jim Crow, and the fight for voting rights. These changes transformed the nation during her lifetime. Morial's story is welcome inspiration for the struggle for political empowerment that continues.
As Ambassador Andrew Young, a childhood friend and later Sybil's prom date, relates in his foreword: "It is doubtful that New Orleans could have produced two mayors with the dynamic, creative, and visionary leadership of 'Dutch' and Marc Morial without a wife and mother of Sybil's loving strength, intelligence, and moral courage. But the life she lived in the crucible times and her perception of the civil rights movement in New Orleans goes far beyond that."
SYBIL HAYDEL MORIAL is an educator, activist, and community leader in New Orleans, Louisiana. The wife of the first African American mayor of New Orleans, Ernest N. "Dutch" Morial, Sybil spent her career in the education field, first as a public school teacher and later as an administrator at Xavier University in New Orleans.

3rd Annual Crescent City Chamber Music Festival.
As I reported in last week’s blog, this is the week of the 3rd Annual Crescent City Chamber Music Festival. Chamber music concerts will be held in various locations throughout New Orleans up to and including Sunday, October 28. Members of the Manhattan Chamber Players, led by New Orleanian Luke Fleming, and the Dover Quartet will be performing selections from such immortal composers as Mozart, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Schoenberg and Shostakovich as well as visiting guest artist, JP Jofre, an Argentine bandoneon (accordion) player who will be performing some of his original compositions.
ALL CONCERTS ARE FREE! Generous donations are welcomed. Here is the remaining schedule, along with the concert locations.

New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation's annual Stake Out for Justice Luncheon honoring members of the New Orleans Police Department with the Badge of Honor will celebrate 23 years of NOPJF!

Pianist, composer, educator and social activist Danilo Pérez is among the most influential and dynamic musicians of our time. After receiving his bachelor's degree in electronics in Panama, he studied jazz composition at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. While still a student, he performed with Jon Hendricks, Terence Blanchard, Slide Hampton, Claudio Roditi, and Paquito D'Rivera. Quickly established as a young master, he soon toured and/or recorded with artists such as the Dizzy Gillespie United Nations Orchestra from 1989-1992, plus many more.

This is the fourth of the 2018 Williams Decorative Arts Lectures presented exclusively for THNOC members. In 1816, François Seignouret commissioned a large new building on Royal Street to house his growing furniture and wine businesses. As The Historic New Orleans Collection expands into that building 200 years later, curator Lydia Blackmore will look back at the business and craftsmanship of one of New Orleans's best-known furniture makers and ponder the legacy of the "Seignouret Chair."
