Good morning darlings. Let's celebrate that we are alive and it is a beautiful day outside- So forget about politics and let's enjoy the day.

This past week was just fabulous. I am still euphoric about the Saints' victory against the Panthers. Boys let's keep it up. Geaux Saints Go!
Last week there more fun cultural events than I could possibly cover or attend. But I sure tried.
On Saturday I should have been wearing a big sign that read "I survived the social tsunami of Friday, September 22, 2017." I cannot believe that I attended the lovely and well-attended funeral mass and reception that followed for Cristina Fowler. I went from there to Stormin' the Sazerac at the Roosevelt Hotel and then in the evening I covered the American Cancer Society's “Belles and Beaus” at Mardi Gras World. These were followed by the annual “Love in the Garden” at the exquisite Sculpture garden of NOMA, and then I attended the sold-out annual Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Excelencia Gala at the JW Marriott.
I loved it but by 10 p.m. I was exhausted and thankful to God for allowing me to cover and attend all these fun events.

I am happy to report that on Saturday, I said "NO" to the World and "Yes" to myself and stayed home with Duchess Chiquita Linda by my side.




On Sunday, it was different story. Meeting of the Women of Fashion

I went to a lovely Fall Membership Meeting of the Women of Fashion at the art-filled home of Mr. Paul Leaman
During the meeting which was followed by a delicious luncheon, it was announced that my darling long-time friend Mary Katherine Lonatro-Tusa.has been selected to be next year Hall of Fame Inductee at the annual Grand Prix D'Elegance Luncheon which I think is going to be April 18,2018.
Mary Katherine deserve this honor, she is the one that nominated me in 1998 and i got it in 1999. Congratulations Mary K.

 French Quarter

18 years ago, Carnaval Latino started as a way to celebrate Hispanic culture in New Orleans through music, food and art. Today, it has grown to include a parade, feature musicians from all over the world and draw in visitors from outside New Orleans. As a part of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15, the festival celebrates all aspects of Hispanic culture – from the food to the music and everything in between.

The Festival

Held in the French Quarter, Carnaval Latino will bring its rich heritage to the heart of New Orleans. The festival is presented by the Hispanic-American Musicians and Artists Cultural Association, and it is FREE. Families are encouraged to attend!

The Parade

In New Orleans, it’s always time for a parade no matter what time of year. 2017 marks the fifth year of the Parade of the Americas, or “Desfile De Las Americas” at Carnaval Latino.
In previous years, the parade has begun at 6 p.m., when the floats and marching groups begin to march from Convention Center Boulevard through the Warehouse District. It turns left at Canal Street to South Peters where then turns right and flow to the Sugar Mill, where further festivities will take place.

Food

Tacos, gorditas, chicharrones, baleadas, fajitas – the list is endless! No other festival in the city features such an extensive menu of Latin foods in one place. At Carnaval Latino, you can experience the bold flavors of several different countries from some of the best food vendors in Louisiana!

Music

Annually, a concert at The Sugar begins at 8 p.m. after the “Parade of the Americas.” Once the music starts, festival-goers can’t seem to get off their feet, dancing traditional Mexican Folk dance, Salsa, Mambo and more. With the dancing comes beautiful costumes – appealing to the eye just as the music appeals to the ears.

Fun

Another visually appealing part of this festival is the art on display, which includes paintings, sculptures and more. Attendees will have the chance to visit different vendor’s booths that sell food, clothing, arts and crafts and other items that reflect Hispanic culture. In addition to entertainment, Carnaval Latino will also be hosting a series of week-day seminars on empowerment, leadership conferences and business development components.

During the 1930s and '40s, a number of jazz studies associated an exodus of jazz musicians from New Orleans with the closing of the Storyville red-light district in November 1917. This assumption eventually became canon in the popular history of jazz, but recent scholarship of the genre's early days has started to revisit the story.                On Wednesday, September 27, jazz historian Bruce Boyd Raeburn digs into the history surrounding this myth at THNOC. In this presentation Raeburn will trace the circulation of jazz musicians in and out of the city before and after November 1917, to illustrate that the closing of the District was essentially a non-event with little impact on the lives of New Orleans jazz musicians. Raeburn is director of special collections and curator of the Hogan Jazz Archive at Tulane University. He is a specialist on New Orleans jazz and jazz historiography and the author of New Orleans Style and the Writing of American Jazz History (University of Michigan Press, 2009). This lecture is presented in conjunction with THNOC's exhibition, Storyville: Madams and Music, which will open one hour prior to the beginning of the program.
