Every since my return from sunny Destin, the weather has been glorious so I could enjoy the myriad of fun events that greeted me upon my return.
Among those soirees that I attended was the awesome annual Ella Brennan Life Achievement in Hospitality Gala. The Gala, held at the Ritz-Carlton, was spectacular and delicious. The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience honored my darling friend: Ralph Brennan, President, Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group. The entire Brennan Family was there and it was so good to see Ella Brennan and her family.

On Friday it was time to attend the fabulous opening night of Don Giovanni, the popular opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart that opened the 2016-17 New Orleans Opera Association season at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts. It was a memorable performance. Don Giovanni, sung by Daniel Okulitch and Audrey Babcock as Donna Elvira, were superb as well as the entire cast. A beautiful evening greeted the patrons in an outdoor soiree around the Norman Treigle Fountains prior to the opening. Darlings, this upcoming week is going to another social marathon for me so I am saving some of my energy for that.
I am going to start my week by attending the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation's “Stake Out for Justice” Luncheon at the Sheraton Hotel.
New Orleans Police Department officers will be honored at this annual luncheon. Badge of Honor Awards will be presented to outstanding officers who are dedicated to protecting and serving the community. The keynote speaker will be Chuck Wexler, the Executive Director of the Police Executive Research Forum in D.C.
Ogden Museum of Southern Art Presents “Day of the Dead Altar” installation (honoring Allen Toussaint) starting on October 10. Each year, the Ogden Museum celebrates Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), presenting an authentic altar, workshops, and a community celebration during Ogden After Hours. This year’s artist, Cynthia Ramirez, will build the altar in dedication to Allen Toussaint. A legendary New Orleans musician, songwriter, record producer and one of the most influential figures in New Orleans R&B, Mr. Toussaint died November 10, 2015.
From October 12-20 is the New Orleans Film Festival. Celebrating its 27th anniversary this year, the Oscar-qualifying New Orleans Film Festival has firmly established itself on the regional film fest circuit as one of the most reputable in the country. It was named by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the "25 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" in their 2012, 2013, and 2014 editions, and it was also named by Premium Beat as one of the "Fifteen Fests You Should Enter
On Wednesday, October 12, from 7:00-9:00 p.m., it’s “Let's Go to the Movies” with Bon Operatit! Get ready for the New Orleans Film Festival as Bon Operatit! sings your favorite operatic and theatrical songs from motion pictures at the Four Points by Sheraton French Quarter

Friday, October 14 is going to be a very busy night for me. I will start it at the lovely annual soiree: Magic in the Moonlight at the New Orleans Botanical Garden. This is an al fresco dinner held under the stars and dramatically lit oaks of the New Orleans Botanical Garden (see info in the calendar below).
Darlings, on Friday I have also been invited to the VIP Reception for CADA Carnivale. The 6th Annual CADA Carnivale is Saturday, October 15, from 7-10 p.m. at City Park's Carousel Gardens. In case you did not know, this weekend is the annual Carnaval Latino. I was the first local queen of Carnaval Latino since the others were Rita Moreno and Celia Cruz.
The Hispanic-American Musicians and Artists Cultural Association, Inc. (H.A.M.A.C.A), presenters of the annual Carnaval Latino, is preparing its 2016 Parade. They invite you to be part of this extraordinary experience
The Parade will take place on Saturday, October 15, at 6:00 p.m. The floats and marching groups will form on the Convention Center Boulevard by the Sugarmill. Then flow down Convention Center Blvd., circle Harrah’s Casino into Canal Street, turning into the French Quarter at North Peters. The parade will flow to Esplanade Avenue and make a U-turn and return through the Quarter via Decatur Street. At Canal it will turn right, then left at St. Charles. Upon reaching Poydras Street it will turn left and return to the Sugarmill, Carnaval Latino grounds via South Peters.

And this Saturday night you won’t want to miss the opening performance of the New Orleans Ballet Association’s 2016-17 season at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts. Coming here all the way from Brazil, where they performed at the closing of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, will be Grupo Corpo, a 21-member dance troupe specializing in the exotic, erotic rhythms of that fabulous South American nation.
Founded by Paulo Pederneiras and his brother Rodrigo Pederneiras in 1975, Grupo Corpo (Body Group) celebrated their 40th anniversary last year and, for their New Orleans appearance, they will pay tribute to all those who made their success possible. Look for Dean Shapiro’s preview story on the company’s upcoming performance in this Thursday’s New Orleans Advocate, posting online Wednesday evening.
That evening is also the elegant Ogden Museum of Art's O What a Night.
On Saturday, October 15th, the Gala begins with a large silent auction in the Patrick F. Taylor Library, where guests arrive, mingle and bid while partaking in cocktails and appetizers by Chef Devillier. Moving from the Taylor library into the Gala tent, guests will enjoy musical and artistic surprises before being seated for a dinner by Mitch Arens, Executive Chef of Calcasieu, the private dining facility of Link Restaurant Group and a live auction, with major works of art by important Southern artists.
The 2016 O What a Night! Gala is chaired by Tracy Copeland and Tommy Westervelt. and the honoree Mrs. Fran Villere.
Darlings, in case you did not know, my darling old-time friend, Count Hubert De Germiny and his wife Ann Lynn have invited me to the wedding of their daughter, international attorney Lorraine De Germiny to Marco Carlos Maria Rossi at La Madelaine Church in Paris. Lorraine called me “Auntie” and, of course, I will not miss this lovely opportunity to visit one of my favorite cities in the world. Je ne peux pas attendre pour visiter Paris et voir mes amis (I cannot wait to visit Paris and see my friends).
I will be returning to my beloved New Orleans just in time to host, on Wednesday, October 26, at noon at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel, the annual Round Table Luncheon saluting the Jefferson Performing Arts Society’s Pasta and Puccini fundraiser and Halloween. Maestro Dennis Assaf, artistic director of JPAS and conductor of the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra, is bringing to our luncheon, the talented tenors, and sopranos who will be performing at its annual Pasta and Puccini Gala on Saturday, October 29 at the Marriott Hotel.
Our luncheon will feature a Halloween competition with prizes being award to the scariest ensemble in addition to the most creative and witch hats. Magic in the Moonlight is an al fresco dinner held under the stars and dramatically lit oaks of the New Orleans Botanical Garden. This year we will showcase the new entrance to the Botanical Garden and the new Arrival Garden that includes a green wall, water features, and a color landscape display of annuals and perennials. Proceeds from this year’s Magic in the Moonlight will be used to build an outdoor teaching kitchen which will host educational programs, cooking classes and workshops in the Garden.
The event's featured chef, Alex Harrell of Angeline, will prepare a three-course dinner served on flower-filled, candlelit tables in the garden. Lively music will be provided by The New Orleans Moonshiners. There will be a fabulous auction of special items. A celebration of the American South, The O What a Night! Gala is the Ogden Museum’s annual fundraiser. O What a Night! will take place on October 15th, 2016.
This year’s gala weekend begins with a Patron Party on October 13th generously sponsored by IBERIABANK. The party will be catered for the third year in a row by Chef Justin Devillier of La Petite Grocery and Balise.

On Sunday, October 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Louisiana Landmarks Society will hold its 3rd annual Fête du Jardin at the Pitot House, with Honorary Chairs Consul General de France Grégor Trumel and Madame Ingrid Trumel. We're hosting a gathering of people who cherish the unique character of our city to enjoy New Orleans cuisine, wine, and music.
The Fête du Jardin is Landmarks Society's major fundraiser of the year, and its success is essential for us to continue our efforts to educate and advocate for the historic treasures that make New Orleans distinctive. The funds we raise also help us maintain the Pitot House, which is our home on Bayou St. John.
