Darlings,
Another successful, fabulous Satchmo SummerFest and White Linen Night have gone by. It used to be that I could easily go away for the summer and not be missing anything, but now summertime in New Orleans is full of indoor and outdoor activities.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152874570260870.1073742492.581200869&type=1&l=3d7ca1aec4 (Photos of White Linen Night)
Check out the photos and open up the links.
On Wednesday, I attended briefly the NO Chamber of Commerce Networking Night at the Cannery and went to see the dress rehearsal of the production of Hello Dolly at Tulane Summer Lyric. I loved it. Below is old photo of Jerry Herman and I at the Rainbow Room . Jerry Herman is the the multi-Tony-award-winning composer and lyricist of the classic Broadway musicals:
I also attended briefly the opening reception for the fabulous The New Orleans Antiques Forum-A presentation of The Historic New Orleans Collection!
This upcoming week, we will have not only the Red Dress Run but also the annual Dirty Linen Night on Royal Street, two more very fun events.
Darlings, get ready to see hundreds of red dresses flying through the streets of New Orleans on Saturday, August 8. Every year the Hash House Harriers, a self-proclaimed “drinking club with a running problem,” hosts the Red Dress Run through the French Quarter and downtown New Orleans. This unique event is open to men and women alike, and it doubles as a fundraiser for many local charities. Proceeds from the race benefit dozens of different charities and organizations in New Orleans, and each organization can receive a Red Dress Grant of up to $5,000.
That evening, August 8, the French Quarter will explode again with local arts and crafts for Dirty Linen Night. An anticipated 40 to 50 galleries will take part in the parody festival that encourages attendees to re-wear their white linen from the previous weekend to support and purchase from New Orleans artists. Musical performances will add to the fun, which usually begins on Royal Street at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. (See calendar below for details.)
Before Saturday’s great events, however, City Park is “alive with the Sound of Music” as the Botanical Gardens’ “Thursdays at Twilight” music series continues this month! Here is the remaining lineup for the month:
8/6 - Leah Chase; 8/13 - Gal Holiday & The Honky Tonk Revue; 8/20 – The Pfister Sisters; and 8/27 - Ten Year Katrina Anniversary with Paul Soniat and special guests.
I am looking forward to Coolinary New Orleans :

Just one piece of sad news this past week and luckily it is not a well-known person who has passed. This time it’s about a beloved venue, the Mid City Theatre, which closed its doors abruptly after only four years in business, forcing the cancellation of five shows and the movement of another show to a different venue. The popular monthly, ongoing soap opera, Pat Bourgeois’ “Debauchery, will move to the Theatre at St. Claude (formerly the Marigny Theatre) for its August 19 show. The new venue is located at the corner of St. Claude Avenue and Marigny Street at the rear of the AllWays Lounge.
Southern Rep Theatre, which stages the “Debauchery” series, also announced that their 3x3 and 6x6 series of short plays will also be staged at the Theatre at St. Claude, along with their “New Play Slam.” In a statement released by Southern Rep, its Producing Artistic Director Aimeé Hayes said, “We are so sorry to say goodbye to Mid City Theatre. Owner Fred Nuccio and manager Su Gonczy have been incredible partners. This is a real loss for the New Orleans theatre community. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to move our New Play Development Programs to the Theater at St. Claude under the management of Jim and Ryan Fitzmorris. We look forward to the opportunity to introduce new audiences to these programs.”
Darlings, have a great cool week. It is yours to enjoy!

Oh What a night- AS Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong would said- " What a Wonderful World." The movie High Society was wonderful as well as the Parade and the Opening Soiree at the historical Omni Royal.
I also stopped briefly at the The Cannery,3803 Toulouse St and joined the New Orleans Chamber members and non members for an evening of networking . The food was delicious and it was fun, fun!
