Darlings,
Lovely autumn weather finally is with us adding to the excitement of breathing the air of victory for our beloved Saints. I was afraid that I was going to have a heart attack and kept changing channel but I did catch the last minutes of the game as it went into time in overtime.
It was the perfect ending to a very hectic week that kept me going as an Eveready Bunny.
Among the most memorable events that I attended was a lovely, delicious champagne and lobster dinner at Cafe B. Chef Chris Montero did an excellent job. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152256264435870.1073742324.581200869&type=1&l=deb3a3e01d.
On Wednesday, I was able to attend the press conference where the French Market Corporation and Market Umbrella announced the market vendors, hours, entertainment, and other details about the new Crescent City Farmers Market, which officially opens on Wednesday October 15. In attendance were several farmers who will be vending at the weekly market, as well as neighborhood and partnering organizations. Guest speakers were Demetric Mercadel, President, Board of Directors, French Market Corporation; Nadine M. Ramsey, Councilmember District C; Charlotte Parent, Director, New Orleans Health Department; Jon Smith, Executive Director, French Market Corporation; Kathryn Parker, Executive Director of Market Umbrella; Liz Williams, Director, Southern Food and Beverage Museum; and Tony Accardo, Louisiana Gourmet Produce, Crescent City farmers market vendor with family ties to the historic French Market.
On Thursday, I went to the Mexican Consulate to the Art Opening of the exhibition "Shooting From The Hip: Mexico" by Conceptual artist Michael Alford.
That evening after work at Casell Bergen Gallery I started my night at Saks Fifth Avenue where the lovely kickoff of the new magazine, Inside New Orleans, took place. Saw a lot of darling friends and the food and libations were delicious.
By the way, congratulations are in order for talented actor/singer Bryan Batt and his longtime companion and business partner, Tom Cianfichi, on their recent wedding. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152260455630870.1073742326.581200869&type=1&l=6f07294a7c
I always associate the first Friday of the month with the Krewe of Cork Luncheon and this month it was a one of my favorite restaurants, Redemption, with Chef Greg Picolo at its helm. During the luncheon, the new 2015 Queen of Cork was announced and crowned and the honor felt to my darling friend, talented Jeffrey McIlwain. Congratulations Jeffrey!

On Friday, I spent a lovely night at the Polo Lounge of the Windsor Court. The Pink Gala honoring the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was rescheduled from October 3 to October 17 so several darling friends showed up and of course we had a great time!
So darlings put in your calendar that the lovely free Pink Gala hosted by the New Orleans Living magazine will be held on Friday, October 17 at the Windsor Court from 7 to 9 p.m.
Saturday, was one of those nights, that I wished once again that I had a clone. I started my evening after work at the historic and lovely Beauregard-Keyes House, which was the setting for the annual Patio Planters of the Vieux Carre' s Fall Fiesta. My darling friend, talented Bob Edes Jr. sang the night away with fabulous Jim Walpole on piano.
Before I went to the art openings all over the city, I stopped by Bar French Seventy at Arnaud's to wish my darling friend Sandra Herman a lovely birthday.
Normally, I go to Julia Street but this past Saturday, I headed to Magazine Street to attend the opening of the new gallery owned by my best friend Sammy Steele and his Foundation "Safe Haven for the Arts." The gallery carries the work of talented artist Mary Moore Soniat. The entire Magazine Street was packed and so was the new gallery.
While in Magazine Street, I stopped by my darling friend Chet Pourciau's gallery as well as the Albert Brown Salon. I didn't think I was going to make it but I am blessed with good luck so I was able to find a parking spot and I kept going.
I did not miss visiting some of my favorite galleries on Julia Street, such as Arthur Roger, Jonathan Ferrara, Callan Comtemporary, Ariodante and Where Y’Art. I love seeing lots of friends enjoying a glorious autumn evening.

We are very excited to announce that Carnaval Latino is moving to the French Quarter, the most historic and vibrant area of the city of New Orleans. Royal Sonesta's Round Table Luncheon
It’s Louisiana on Tap
The Royal Sonesta is brewing up a good time for October’s Round Table Luncheon! The event will celebrate the burgeoning craft beer industry in Louisiana as we imbibe and indulge in some of the best beers that the region has to offer. In honor of Oktoberfest, we’re opening the taps and letting the good times flow as we get the scoop on the area’s brewery scene.
We’ll hear from beer expert and writer Nora McGunnigle who will share her extensive knowledge about Louisiana’s craft beer scene. McGunnigle specializes in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Gulf Coast region. McGunnigle’s work has appeared in an impressive array of local, regional, and national publications.
CEO and founder of NOLA Brewing Company, Kirk Coco, will speak about the role he’s had in bringing craft brewing back to the city in post-Katrina New Orleans. Coco has been an integral part of the resurgence of local brewing and has tied both the company’s brand and its beers to the unique character and distinct resilience of the city.
Karlos Knott, President and Co-founder of Bayou Teche Brewing Company, will take us inside his experience of founding a brewery that not only crafts some of the best beers in Louisiana, but also utilizes its product to preserve and celebrate the distinct culture, language, music, and cuisine of Acadiana where he was raised.
Entertainment will be provided by the Jefferson Performing Arts Society featuring vocalists Jennifer DeLatte, Kat Abreo Mendelson, and Micah Desonier. The trio will perform selections from the upcoming Pasta and Puccini Gala and will be accompanied by Dr. Donna Clavijo on piano.
As a special musical treat, guests will enjoy a performance by Grammy artist Louis Michot. A gifted fiddler for the Cajun rock band Lost Bayou Ramblers, Michot has traveled the country and the world extensively spreading Cajun music. Michot’s performance underscores our celebration of Louisiana’s unique approach to this Oktoberfest celebration.
Executive Chef Kevin Goodwin and his expert culinary team have prepared an Oktoberfest four-course menu just for the occasion. NOLA Brewing Company and Bayou Teche Brewing have selected beer pairings to compliment each course. The meal begins with a German Style Beer Cheese Soup featuring Bayou Teche Biere Pale with Jarlsberg Cheese and Garlic Croutons. Next, guests will enjoy a salad of Hogs Head Cheese and Baby Greens with White Wine Vinegar and Sour Cream Dressing. The main course will be a lovely duet of Bay Snapper Schnitzel in a Lemon Caper Butter Sauce and Duck Confit with Currants and an Alps Blueberry Glaze, served with Crisp Buttered Spaetzle and Port Wine Pickled Red Cabbage. For a sweet finish, guests will enjoy Hopitoulas Chocolate Hops Cake with Plum Ice Cream for dessert.
It’s worth noting that the site of the Royal Sonesta New Orleans was once home to the American Brewing Company, makers of the popular Regal Beer, from 1890 until 1962. After Prohibition, the American Brewing Company was unique in its ability to recover and prosper as a local brewery. October’s Round Table is a nod to the hotel’s history and a celebration of the similar post-Katrina comeback that the craft brewing scene has enjoyed in recent years. We’ll be raising our glasses to the future of brew masters in this region!
Remember, October is also the month of Halloween! We’d be remiss if we didn’t celebrate the season in a distinctly New Orleans fashion, so help us celebrate by donning your favorite accessories to further enhance the flavor of this Round Table!
The Royal Sonesta’s Round Table Luncheon is $50 inclusive with advance reservations or $55 at the door. Parking is complimentary in the hotel’s parking garage. For reservations, please contact Noel Scallan at 504-553-2220 or email her at nscallan@sonesta.com
