Darlings,
As you know, this past weekend we did not enjoy the glorious weather that we enjoyed the prior week. I am praying that if it needs to rain, let it be early in the week - as long as it does not interfere with the upcoming French Quarter Festival.
I am still anxious about finding a place for my gallery before the end of this month. I am fighting a chest cold that I just cannot shake. Hopefully I will get better before my beloved FQ Festival (April 10-13).
Before I share the fun events that I attended and the one that I will attend, I want to share the news of the passing of one of the most talented members of our artistic community: George Dureau. You can read more about it at these links: http://www.wwltv.com/.../Noted-New-Orleans-artist-George...

I met George through my brother Lorenzo before I even moved to New Orleans, at least 40 years ago. He was a dear friend. May his soul rest in peace.
Last week I enjoyed so much the great few soirees that included: The New Orleans Botanical Garden Foundation's 2014 Spring Symposium featuring Dr. William C. Welch at Pavilion of the Two Sisters. The Garden looked so pretty and so lovely as I toured it

That night I also went to Lafayette Square to briefly see talented Robin Barnes who was gone by the time I got there but I enjoyed the performance of jazz pianist Marcia Ball.
On Saturday, it was time to pull out my Spanish comb and mantilla to attend the fabulous Longue Vue Garden's Sentimental Journeys - Night in the Gardens of Spain at the lovely home of Stephanie and Joseph Bruno. This year’s theme “Night in the Gardens of Spain” celebrated the iconic Spanish Court at Longue Vue and its inspiration, the Generalife Gardens at Alhambra in Grenada, Spain. This event was generously supported by Iberia Bank with an exquisite menu from Chef Michael Sichel of Galatoire’s.

Sentimental Journeys is the major fundraising event for Longue Vue House and Gardens, a historic estate in New Orleans created by philanthropists Edith and Edgar Stern from 1939 to 1942.
Prior to Sentimental Journey, my darling friends Jim and Sandie McNamara invited me and my escort, Paul Mauffray, to a lovely reception at their fabulous home to meet the film director Cecilia Peck (she is Gregory Peck’s daughter) who filmed "Brave Miss World." This is a documentary about a rape victim who won the Miss World beauty pageant and used the platform to encourage rape victims to speak out, and it was part of the FilmOrama at the Prytania Theater.
On Saturday, it was time to attend the opening of talented artist Peter O' Neill at his 319 Royal Street Gallery.
That night I attended the lovely Wisdom Salutes Legacies: “A Celebration of Cuisine, Comedy and Culture,” saluting and recognizing three of the pillars of our community: Rev. James C. Carter, S.J., Loyola University President Emeritus; Dr. Nicolas G. Bazan, M.D., PhD; and legendary Chef Leah Chasewho was represented by her granddaughter, Tracie Griffins and her husband Michael at the Civic Theatre.

I did not miss the superb matinee performance of the New Orleans Opera Association's production of “La Boheme” by Giacomo Puccini at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. Eight of the 11 major and supporting cast members have ties to New Orleans. New Orleans-born Sarah Jane McMahon and Alfred Walker, along with my darling local talented friends such as Ivan Griffin, Ken Weber, Jesse Nolan, Beau Austin and Scott McDonald. MaestroRobert Lyall conducted brilliantly the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
This week, besides looking desperately for a new location for Casell-Bergen Gallery, I am looking forward to one of my favorite festivals - our local French Quarter Festival April 10-13 http://fqfi.org/frenchquarter.
I cannot wait to attend the annual FQ Festival Gala 2014 Gala at Antoine’s Restaurant. For information and to purchase tickets log on to www.fqfi.org/gala. 7 p.m.
But before that, Wednesday, April 9, bicyclists from all over New Orleans will commemorate the 3rd Annual NOLA Bike to Work Day by biking to work.
Wednesday at the Square is presenting on April 9, The New Orleans Suspects and Funk Monkey

On Friday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m., violinist Philippe Quint will be the guest soloist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Carlos Miguel Prieto, at the Mahalia Jackson Theater (801 N. Rampart St.). Quint will perform Korngold’s Violin Concerto and Corigliano’s Chaconne for Violin from the film The Red Violin. The concert, which features music by American composers inspired by and working in the world of film music, also includes Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
Philippe Quint and Carlos Miguel Prieto have worked closely together in numerous performances and on two recordings over the last decade. They recorded Korngold’s Violin Concerto with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería for Naxos in 2009, and the album was nominated for two Grammy Awards that year. Quint’s latest orchestral album from 2012, a recording of the Mendelssohn and Bruch Concertos, was also a collaboration with Maestro Prieto.
Saturday, April 12 is another one of those nights that I wish I could have a clone. My darling friends, talented radio/TV personality and political commentator Jeff Crouere is getting married to “Demolition Diva” Simone Bruni, and that night also has scheduled the fabulous Fabergé Opus Ball at 6:00 p.m.at the Civic Theater. The Gala will feature the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, with Virtuoso Russian-American Pianist, Lola Astanova and guest conductor, Jahja Ling. This performance will be followed by dinner and dancing at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans.
The Leading Ladies Guild of the Jefferson Performing Arts Society is gearing up for its Fifth Annual Parasol Promenade & Tea. The elegant spring affair will be held on Sunday April 13, 2014 at Longue Vue House & Gardens, 7 Bamboo Road, New Orleans.

Also on Sunday, April 13 at 9 p.m. sharp the Grand Finale of the Jazz Vespers 2014 Series with acclaimed jazz pianist Victor “Red” Atkins.
Well darlings, I think I am going to be exhausted but I cannot miss enjoying the French Quarter Festival which I think you will as well.
I do need to save my energy for next week fun events that will include:
